    Argo - Wonderful!

    by Gosslr2

It took me hours to settle after seeing this movie - it had me completely hooked! The acting is fabulous, the sets so perfectly reflect the time, the pace never faltered, and the drama is intense. Unexpectedly, humor is sprinkled throughout the movie, which provided a great balance to the intensity. SEE THIS MOVIE!!!

    Great untold true story

    by

Gives explanation as to why it was untold for so long. Affleck is great as is Goodman and Arkin. Be prepared for edge of your seat tenseness even though you think you know how things turn out, it's an anxiety filled trip and captures what the 6 had to be feeling back in 1981 in Iran.

    ArGO see this movie

    by j5ive

Stakes are high and easy to comprehend: get these 6 people out of Iran or they will be executed. Ben Affleck plays an action hero we can get behind: a CIA "exo" expert assigned to get these 6 American Embassy workers from harms way.

All pretty typical Hollywood action thriller plot setup, right? Except: THIS ACTUALLY HAPPENED!

Affleck as a director has pretty much established himself as more than competent and thoroughly engaging and entertaining as a filmmaker. Highly recommend.

Especially love what I THINK was a nod to C-3PO telling stories to the Ewoks from JEDI in a crucial moment near the end of ARGO involving the title fake movie's storyboards.

    Argo -- Excellent, A Must-Go

Ben Affleck's work continues to amaze -- to improve in depth and polish. This is a wonderfully produced, written, acted and directed movie that is a must-see.

He is fast becoming the next Clint Eastwood in terms of writing, acting and starring in movies.

Ben Affleck is no empty chair.

Argo is fast paced and suspenseful!

    by

Even though you know the ending, you still sit on the edge of your seat. Great movie, great acting. Ben Afleck did a wonderful job directing a tightly wound movie.

Argo - Didn't get to see it

We got to the theater, but there were no seats for us. We got our money back for the tickets, but not the Fandango service charge. Great news for the movie, bad news for us and our interest in using Fandango in the future.

    ARGO F-yourself

Great movie, very well done. Was a little slow at some points but that is my only negative of the movie itself.(More later on negatives) The cast was great, very well acted. Cinematography gave you a raw late 70's early 80's feel. Sound track was very good. Saw a lot of the images I remember seeing on TV as a kid in the movie.

I have to give praise to Ben as the director because the movie came off VERY WELL indeed. I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Other negative I have with the movie, I'll be brief and short as to not give an spoilers here. The "artistic license" was to broad. Having done some research there is much that is not factual and I don't like that, but it was done for the movies suspense sake. I guess sometimes life just isn't dramatic enough for the movies! :-)

Ben Affleck has never been better!

Well done, suspenseful movie. Even if you know the outcome beforehand it keeps you on the edge of your seat. Captures historical period perfectly. Kudos to Ben! Stay for the credits.

    Brilliantly Thrilling

    by

Argo is an intense thrill ride full of tension as Ben Affleck plays a CIA agent who goes into Iran and attempts to extract 6 Americans who will be held hostage if they are caught as they hide out during the late 70's early 80's American / Iran conflict.

The sheer amount of tension that one feels while watching this film is extraordinary. The pacing is well done, the storytelling is brilliant and the director did his very best (and a damn fine job I might add) to keep the film as authentic as possible.

    Mission accomplished.

    nail-biter Argo

I could have happily done without the political opinions and slanted anti American "history lesson" of the role America and Great Britain took in the gov't of the Shah that clearly placed sympathy with the savage monsters that violently took over Iran in 1979 and at the end sought to elevate Carter in some way rather than lumping him in with those same policies. After all it WAS Carter who declared The Shah our friend and allowed him asylum!
But the rest of the movie between those book ends seem to do a good job dropping the politics and although I knew the ending, I found myself gripping my fingers, my heart pounding the entire time and literally biting my nails. I NEVER let a movie take over my emotions like that. This is a first. I was 9 when the US Embassy was taken over in Iran. I remember the yellow ribbons everywhere. I don't remember this story being told after the declassification under Clinton. Now I feel compelled to read more about this mission.
    This movie was terrific!

Loved this movie! I knew very little about the movie when I went to see it. It had me on the edge of my seat until the vey end. Don't wait to see it on DVD; a must see on the big screen!

    See it!

It's smart, fast paced, and keeps you on the edge of your seat even though you know the outcome. Also offers some insight into the Iranian culture.

    VERY GO!!!OD

Gives a slighted view on the actual events that took place realistically... as we know, Reagan was the reason the hostages were set free... however, it was a very good movie and well acted and worth seeing.

Argo - Must see to appreciate the title!

Ben Affleck's award winning performance was at it's finest; as a producer and extractor!
Argo provides an insight to the terror people lived through, political espionage and the true acts of heroism of individuals.
Be prepared to sit on the edge of your seat as you watch the unexpected. John Goodman and Alan Arkin provide needed bursts of comedy to break up such a serious situation.
Watch the credits, it's not over until you view them!
    A must see!

    History

Great movie. A little slow in the beginning, but really takes off, to a great finish. It's odd to think that I'm old enough to have my memories of this event classified as history!!!
