    History made exciing

Argo was even better because it was based upon history. It was well done from all aspects, acting, costumes, direction and screenplay. The late seventies and early eighties came to life.

The end used a bit of dramatic excess to enhance the suspense. All in all very enjoyable.

    Go see Argo

Amazing - especially as it's a true story. Just put yourself in their shoes and try to comprehend that this actually happened. Great Friday night entertainment.

    True to the Times

    by brizl

Excellent movie. Lots to think about. Well cast and acted. Good direction, tying the "story" to the reality. History is more fascinating than fiction. Good job, Mr. Affleck!

Ending is a matter of public record-movie is still a nail-biter!

    by hobbes3

Phenomenal film. Affleck hits his third outing behind the camera out of the park. Despite the fact that we know the ending it will still have you holding your breath or biting your nails and then have you choked up by the time the credits roll.

    Must Go to "Argo"

    by Billy58

This is almost edge of your seat movie-going. The tension is palpable. Ben Affleck's direction is spot-on. You couldn't ask for better. The cast is excellent. Without hesitation, I say " Go to see this movie".

    Argo

Great movie that has suspense and humor. A "sit on the edge of your seat" type of movie. Ben Afflec was just great and indeed deserves the Oscar buzz.

    Based On A True Story

Yes, it's a storyline we've seen on the silver screen many times before. The drama, the suspense---will they get out unscathed?! won't they?! I think what makes this film so great is that it's all pretty much true. In fact, the very fact that Affleck sticks so closely to reality makes this film feel that much more authentic. No Hollywood fluff. No gratuitous violence, unnecessary explosions or special effects. No alternate endings. Just a good old fashioned true story (and some decent acting to boot). Best part by far is the end credits, where they compare scenes from the film side-by-side with actually footage from the region during that very tumultuous time... Just makes you stop and think. Often, reality is very much stranger than fiction. And Affleck got it right this time.

    Excellent

A movie that keeps your interest from beginning to end. Even though you know the conclusion, you are still on the edge of your seat. The acting is superb. Should get several Academy Award nominations.

    Real and Mesmorizing

Argo is a immersive experience which takes you back in time, and places you right in the middle of the story, showing every facet of it.

    No PC inaction here!

True story -- with seemingly accurate scenarios (almost all suspenseful). We need more non-politically correct heroes such as the protagonist in this important story. He saw what was right to do --and did it despite contrary views in the federal government's hierarchy

    Argo See It!!!!

I went to see the movie because it is a Best Picture Nominee. I confess I had low expectations--I couldn't imagine I would really enjoy it, let alone appreciate all the hub-bub.

I was sooo wrong. I was on the edge of my seat the entire movie and did applaud at the end.... The writing, acting, directing and cinematography were so well done. I felt like I was in Iran along with the embassy workers during the take-over and then in the Canadian official's home along with the 6. Argo is definitely one of the Best Pictures in recent years, not just 2012..... The movie is for mature audiences due to the violence and subject matter. Go see it or else....go xx yourself! (Wink!)

A Little Docudrama, a Lot of Hollywood

    by

Overrated. I get Hollywood has to embellish, but to the point of eye-rolling incredulity? "Suspension of Disbelief" is usually reserved for fantasy genres, but I had to invoke it a few times for cliches throughout this film: the CIA agent with drinking/family problems; the embassy employee/'cameraman" looking through the wrong side of a lens; the Revolutionary Guard chasing a Jumbo Jet down the runway. The effective but itself cliche back and forth editing between the pursuers and escapees pulled me along, but the Keystone Cops chase and "just-in-the-nick-of-time" runway escape is unpalatable. To be sure, editing was the strong suit of the movie, notably when old footage is spliced with new to lend authenticity. The fictional and stereotypical Hollywood producer played by Alan Arkin would have been problematic were it not for his fine performance. Argo works because it is based on a dramatic passage of American History and despite, ironically, the "best" efforts of Hollywood.

    Argo is a must see!

I started off knowing nothing of this film besides what I remember from History about the Iran Hostage situation of 1979. I was amazed how well put together this film was and since it was ?Based on a True Story? they are allowed some dramatic license. So, while the film may not be 100% historically accurate Affleck is able to give us a great tale to follow.

Ben Affleck plays Tony Mendez, a CIA consultant that orchestrates an elaborate scheme to extract six United States Embassy officials from hiding within a Canadian embassy located in Iran. Affleck is great in Argo compared to other roles he has played and is very believable in this role. I was excited to see him to do something different and I got my money?s worth.

The Supporting Cast are all placed appropriately and gave the movie that polished shine that we can expect from having great actors placed in the right roles. I have a longer review at sundaydumbday.com/argo

    Must See!

    by

Ben Affleck is back in Argo, and what a return! Based on a true story, Ben must rescue 6 americans from Iran after the US embassy has been taken over. So he comes up with a plan to act as a film crew to get them out of the country. Everyone, from the Iranians trying to capture these 6 people, to Ben, to the actors in the CIA, everyone was phenomenal. You could feel the stress as the 6 americans hide in the Canadian embassy, hiding for their lives. The scenery is amazing, whether its in the desert of Iran, or the city. The end is very satisfying, yet keeps you guessing till the last second. At the end, it shows the actual photos of the real people, compared to the ones in the movie. I liked how they incorporated the actual history into the movie, and cool that the character Ben plays resides in my home state of Maryland. Some of the material is graphic, public hangings, close range shooting executions, etc. If you love thrillers, suspense, based on actual events, youll love ARGO!
