    Great twist!

    by tazfus

I loved this story as a kid. It was nice to see it updated. The witches and trolls were just right, not to scary and not to weak. I just wish that would have done more character development on the good witches!

    Pleasantly surprised

    by prfun

From seeing the trailer I thought this movie would miss the mark but thanks to some great killing scenes it was worth watching. I'm not a fan of too much CGI but this movie worked despite some bad acting. Not for the little ones and I'm glad to see that. It's about time Hollywood started thinking about the parents a little as there's been a sharp shift in making kid movies recently

    Gross

    by

It was awesome!!!! Very slow at the beginning but most shows are. Not recommended for returning soldiers though! The exploding bodies could effect their PTSD! All in all great movie!

    Good fun!

3D was perfect for this flick. I enjoyed the simple plot and one liners. It was PG-13 The ONLY problem was the cursing. I'm no prude and I've slung my share of F-bombs but it didn't enhance the humor. It made the one liner oddly out of place.

    Otherwise: Great fun!

    H&G Kick Ass

This is a fun, albeit gory version of two kids wronged, now PO'd and payback has been happening for a long long time. Its fun to combine old time settings with modern day language.

    Hansel and Gretel

    by

Loved all the special effects. In 3-D this movie is amazing. I was surprised at how graphic it got for only PG-13 . I loved it more, wish they did it as an R. Hated the one liner jokes though. When I go see a dramatic movie, action packed, etc, It just ruins the whole movie when they make those one liner jokes. Now I just went from a serious movie to a Hollywood joke attempt at trying to be serious.
The popcorn here at the ICON really was bad. It was early, so I expected fresh. It was all crumbs, like at the bottom of your own bucket and extremely salty. I didn't ask for butter or it probably would have been greasy too. I ordered my ticket on line and no one was around me. When I got there, there were a family of kids blocking the aisle at the cash register making all kinds of noise. My luck all 8 sat behind me, making chatter, on cell phones and rude. They were even with their parents who were just as bad. I got up and sat in an empty seat 7 aisles away.

Different Kind of Hansel & Gretel

The gore version, not to scary, just very gorific (blood) and debre' flying . See the 3D version if you go, there is fire effects and lots of artillary (weapons). I saw it with a friend and we laughed the whole time.

Great except for the silly anachronisms....

Good acting, story, effects, and very good 3D. Only annoying thing was the use of 20th century slang in a 19th century story taking place, for the most part, in the area of Augsburg, Germany. Other anachronisms, such as an apparent use of insulin injections (seriously!) had nothing much to do with the story until the---well, you'll see why they contrived that whole thing without really needing to...

You'll see some Van Helsing-influenced gadgetry and, as you would expect, some Brothers Grimm imagery, but it's great. Well worth the money and the 85 minutes watching. Beware that the shortness of the film means that you're going to suffer twenty minutes worth of previews, etc., before the movie starts...

This movie was gory and had a lot of curse words in it, but in the same hand it was funny and had a lot of action in it. If you like action, this is the movie to see.

    Good entertainment!

Love fairy tale stories and this one was action packed! No, it was not realistic or practical but what fairy tale is? It's a fairy tale people! As in fantasy.
Loved the 3D effects! If you go see it try and see it in 3D, you won't be sorry! It is NOT a movie for young kids but I did take my 15 year old son, who at times can be skeptical of movies such as this, and he LOVED it as much as I did!
Go with a open mind and I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised!

Should be PG 13 not R

    by

I took 3 boys 11-12. We all loved it! There was only one part with nudity. I read a review that there was a sex scene and I was ready to make sure they covered their eyes but it was just a quick butt shot and a little bit of boobage, not too bad, no sex. Nothing they haven't seen before in PG 13. The language was PG 13 too, I thought. The violence was about what they see in video games. The story was cool. I liked Gretel's part. She was a tough biatch. All the boys thought the weapons were awesome, they were futuristic. Great in 3D! I didn't get motion sickness like I have before in 3D movies. I don't know if that is something that others have experienced but I was happy it didn't happen this time. All of the boys gave it a thumbs up! We were all saying that was an awesome movie when we were walking to the car. It was a hit!

ABOUT WHAT YOU WOULD EXPECT AND MAYBE A BIT LESS

I didn't expect a cinematic masterpiece, just some good action and special effects with some witty lines and a bit of storytelling. The first two were present in abundance, but the last two were absent. Gemma Arterton's performance was interesting although uninspired, and Jeremy Renner wasn't just appropriately dry but downright flat. Famke Janssen gives the most interesting performance as the evil master witch. Unfortunately there just wasn't much added to the original story except a dozen ways to kill a witch. The end of the movie leaves the door wide open for a sequel, which I'll probably skip as the most interesting character has been slain.

SO SO movie but worth a look

    by cacarat

This movie had curses, gore and was campy. Not bad for today's horror fans. Plenty of action with a weak plot but remember, this was originally a fairy tale. Go see it if you like real witches and light horror. 3 stars out of 5
