Go in with low expectations and you won't be disappointed.
Last night, I agreed to go see Hansel & Gretel, reluctantly. Before going, I looked up the rottentomatoes page and saw it only got a 15 percent fresh rating. That's pretty bad. Even Van Helsing got a 22%. So, the bar was set pretty low.
I didn't hate the movie. It was entertaining and I don't consider it a total waste of money and time. The soundtrack was cheesy at times and the rest of the time it was techno/rock. The acting was alright. There's was nothing hugely moving about any of the performances. I really like the art direction. The look of the witches were pretty awesome. The troll reminder me of Bluto from Labryinth in his mannerisms and speech. The amount of gore and nudity was fine with me. As far as the plot is concerned, it wasn't terrible, but it wasn't anything groundbreaking.
I liked the movie more than I liked Van Helsing, definitely. I think it's something that can wait to rent on video.
