Should have been left in the woods

    by MedRed

Even with low expectations, Hansel & Gretel is corny, simple, predictable, and poorly acted.

A few good one liners and action scenes are overridden by bad one liners, repetitive fight scenes, and really, really bad CGI. I also don't think thigh thick branches of wood are supposed to flop as if they are made of rubber.

The only redeeming quality of this movie is the R rating that keeps it from being a total snore fest. Pass on this one.

    Hansel & Gretel

Nice entertainment for a rainy afternoon, but if you don't see it, you haven't missed much.
Fun. Get it when it comes out on DVD. Not really worth paying movie prices to see it. Great for tweens and teens. Imaginative take on the fairy tale.

A movie I'd see again read the rest on the tipsy-ink.com blog

I love this movie & I'm usually the first to nit pick at movie based on fairy tales or books. It was a continuous pace, no boring lag time & it had a lot of action sequences. I seriously love the little stuff like "sugar sickness" & the way they both got there assess kicked. Even tho a lot of the story line is predictable, it doesn't take away from it. It was so well done you barely had time to register your victory at being right. The actors were very likable as their characters but I must admit that at times the chemistry between the 2 main actors bordered on awkward. During a couple of scenes I didn't feel the brotherly sisterly love, instead I was left sitting there feeling a tad uncomfortable & thinking they might have been better suited for a different storyline or different characters. Not to say Jeremy Renner wasn't a great Hansel or that Gemma Arterton was the best damn Gretel yet but I noticed my friend and I awkwardly glancing at each other thru certain scenes between the 2.

Very entertaining but NOT for kids!

    by

This movie was very entertaining. There were no boring parts, the characters were cool, and the story was great. I saw it in 3D and it was really good. Normally, 3D movies bother my eyes but this one did not. Warning: the witches in this movie are pretty scary and I do not recommend them for children. Yes it has a few curse words but it's for adults not kids. I think it was worth the price.

    Hansel and Gretel

This movie was worth the money I paid to see it. The characters were excellent, also the story line. It was action from the beginning to the end. The CG did not look fake like other movies I've seen, more realistic. It may be a little scary for some children. Go see it, it's worth it.

Don't bother..... not even on when it comes out to HBO

This movie SUCKED. Tacky, full of poor one-liners, completely lame, and pathetic. We thought it would be more like a Snow White and The Huntsman vibe. Just a weak B movie. Save your money and more importantly, your time.

    Awesome

This is no Fairy btale for the kids. Awesome action, gruesome violence and even some brief nudity. If you like action movies, this is a must go.

    Just okay

    by

What you see in the trailer is what you get.

The good: the action is plentiful and humor is present throughout the movie (although I wouldn't call it funny). The film is visually interesting.
The bad: performances are mediochre and it the feel of the film is clear that of being filmed on a set. The story is predictable.

If you are looking for an actiony diversion, you might give Hansel and Gretel a try. If you are looking for quality film-making or consistently good performances you may need to look elsewhere.

    Good action movie

    by rtnyc

Overall, this was a good action fantasy movie with emphasis on action. The storyline was rather interesting (in a good way) with a nice spin on the "future" Hansel and Gretel as witch-killing bounty hunters. The anachronistic use of modern day automatic weapons set against the backdrop of medieval times is very odd. That said, the special effects, magic, and fight scenes are pretty good. The nudity seemed out of place as was the language (did certain cuss words exist back then?) Definitely do not take the kids to see this movie. I was surprised to see over 20 junior high-aged children in the audience. Don't look for a meaningful storyline in this movie. It's just action, violence, blood, and gore, which slightly exceeded my expectations in that respect.

    Not to Impressed

    by

This movie was not the worst movie i seen but it wasnt the best.. It had some very good parts that i enjoyed but the fight scenes were very repetative and also very graphic. Also it was very predictable. If you cannot look at blood or get grossed out very easily then i suggest you dont see it of just be very alert. This is not a movie i would see again but it was not a movie i regret seeing..

    Corny but entertaining

The movie was a bit corny and the witches were a little over the top, but it was entertaining.
The movie does not seem to take itself too seriously. The witch fights were fast paced. I thought the witches were too exaggerated for my liking, but all in all it was entertaining.
A short review, but thats really all there is - fighting witches.

    Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters

    by WILDSEA

Special effects, make-up, fantasy, lots of action, cinematography make this a very good movie by MGM/Paramount. Metro Goldwyn Mayer has been the best, or one of the best, along with Warner Bros. and 21st Century Fox for many, many years.

It was a little on the lite side....

    by

Although the movie had good fight scenes and special effects, the plot was a little thin and underdeveloped. At some points it was annoying and predictable. In spite of this, I really liked the twist to the classic fairytale. This movie is a cross between Snow White and The Huntsman, Van Helsing and Red Riding Hood.
