    Ganster Squad

    by

My son and I went to see this movie. Not so good ratings but had a lot of stars. It was entertaining. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Would recommend to go see it. I have found a lot of movies are good even though the critics rate them lower.

    Worth the $$$

Josh Brolin is AMAZING! As usual!!! Sean Penn was a hard ass, but he looked coked out the whole time. I don't know he just didn't look like the Sean I know and love. But he was still good. The story line was good. I'd recommend it.

    Still born prodigy

    by grrbach

A promising cast (mightily uplifted by Sean Penn's oscar-worthy performance) and a few moments of enrapturing style can't make up for two, terminal flaws?the most inconsistent A-list script of the past ten years and direction that's competent only when the guns are blazing.

Is it a waste of time? No. But don't expect the gangster/mob film classic the trailer or the movie critic shills promise.

So much potential, so much disappointment.

    Loved it1

    by aud2

Although I don't care for Sean Penn, I really enjoyed this movie. There was a lot of action along with humor. Although a lot of blood.

    Gangster Squad

    by DMLIPKA

I attended with my wife and we both found the movie to be enjoyable. The 1940's wass a great time in our history and this was seen in how gansters ruled the cities.

I would recommend this movie to anyone except kids under 16.

    Gangster Squad

Pointless violence and gore, and no real heart in the story. More like a cartoon. Sean Penn was ridicolous in his role of the villain, Mickey Coen. Too much shooting, and way too much gore. No empathy with any of the characters. I should ask for a refund.

Thanks for checking, but this is a bomb!!!!

    It could have been Epic.

    by Cro-Cro

The film was good, very entertaining, definitely worth the time and money spent in the theater. The story was decent, there were a few holes in it, places where you question, couldn't they have done something other than that, but its almost one of those, you see the trailer you know whats gonna happen. There weren't really any surprises or amazing moments but it should have you on the edge of your seat for most of the movie. Sean Penn was great, Ryan Gosling was decent, he kinda sounded like "Micky Doyle" from Boardwalk Empire, but at parts the high-pitched accent was in and out.

I really enjoyed the movie. Had some funny moments but also kept me on the edge of my seat. The acting and action was amazing. Very good plot and story line.

    Very good flick.

Great casting. Sold story. I might go see it again at the theater... for the "big screen" affect. Penn was exceptional. Gosling was a good - tough guy. The main leader on the Gangster Squad stood his ground to Penn's acting and was super hero type charter.

    Horrible mish-mash!

    by

A valiant attempt at making three different movies and cramming them into one. Unfortunately, a failure. Terrible dialogue, plot holes, serious lack of commitment to a single vision. Movie started like a Zach Snyder action movie, then changed to an Untouchables remake, then turned stupid. The acting was totally phoned in and campy, but not on purpose. Sean Penn and Giovanni Ribisi were the only good things about it.

Bloody lies - my Dad John O'Mara didn't shoot people

    by

I am the daughter of John O'Mara, the Los Angeles police officer currently portrayed in the Hollywood $75MM movie, Gangster Squad, set in 1949. However, the movie bears absolutely no resemblance to the true story of my Dad and his near obsession with the mobster Mickey Cohen. Paul Lieberman's recently released book tells the story much more accurately. My Dad and his colleagues tracked Cohen through dogged police work, courage, nerve and intelligence. In the movie, my Dad is shown firing away in numerous bloody shootouts, killing and maiming. In real life, my Dad shot his gun once in twenty years. The movie's release gives us an ideal forum to discuss our cultural obsession with gun violence in film. There was a true story, a great story, where the cops outsmarted the bad guys, but the truth was largely ignored by the script in favor of endless gunfire and sadistic murder and gives us clear, hard evidence of the movie industry maximizing violence to garner ticket sales.

    The Gangster Squad

    by

Absolutely loved it! Some people would say it was too much shooting, but I would say there was not any more shooting than you would expect from a gangster film. Matter of fact, even though it begins with a pretty gruesome scene involving Mickey & his cohorts, it wasn't as gruesome as some other gangster films I've seen. The movie is intended for adults. It was not a complicated plot to follow, but there was plenty of action, a little romance drama regarding Wooters and Grace, and plenty of anticipation for the viewers as to how the Gangster Squad was going to bring the bad guys down. It seemed like a lot of thought & effort was exercised regarding detailed scnerery, vehicles, and clothing of the period, dramatic explosions, etc. You can't beat the all star cast! Penn, Brolin, Gosling, & Stone were phenomenal, as usual! Mackie is an interesting star to watch & enjoyed Nick Nolte's gruff character. Pure entertainment to get your mind of of the everyday grind. Go see it!!
