    Great effects, nice story line, easy to follow

    This movie follows the same line as the television show, "Vegas". With just about the only law man in town that isn't corrupt trying to save the city from the mob (and corrupt judges and city officials) and a ragtag team of "good-guys" known as the "Gangster Squad" in support, the mob, of course, loses. Story line is well written and easy to follow. Characters are kept to a minimum to keep down the confusion and stay true to the story. Special effects (gun play, explosions) were realistic and well placed. the "matrix" type slow motion was unnecessary but fun. I expect to see this on ppv in two months. Overall a good movie.

    I went with a group and we enjoyed the film. That said, it wasn't one I'd have killed to go see, or one I'd see in theaters again.

    Loved it!

    Went to this movie with my husband with few expectations because of the general description. I was pleasantly surprised. It is violent but nothing out of the ordinary from a "gangster" film. I thought Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, and Sean Penn were excellent in this movie. Emma Stone looked beautiful, as always. I would recommend this film to friends.

    The seats were confy

    The movie is very slow and I dont think any gangster movie is going to come glose to scarface but.It has its moments and if you lioke the 50's then its good but if you dont then just stay home or rent it.

    Ganster Squad

    My son and I went to see this movie. Not so good ratings but had a lot of stars. It was entertaining. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Would recommend to go see it. I have found a lot of movies are good even though the critics rate them lower.

    Glamorous, Thrilling, Strong

    This is a first time review for me. I felt compelled to - the critics have this one all wrong.

    This move was a true pleasure - unbelievable cinematography, witty banter, and an aching nostalgia.

    If you love Mad Men, you'll swoon.

    Forgettable

    Despite poor critic reviews I had high hopes going into this movie because a friend said it was awesome. I was very disappointed to say the least. I expected better things from this all star cast. The movie was predictable and boring, Sean Penn's accent was confusing because it changed throughout the movie, and I stopped paying attention but still knew exactly how this story would end within the first 5 minutes. I get what they were trying to do here with the old school, cheesy, shoot em up drama, but this movie either needed to go darker or lighter. It was in a gray area so it really didn't make a whole lot of sense. That being said, I still love Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, and I'll forgive them eventually.

    Fascinating watch

    The movie was very well written, well casted and well down. Absolutely no boring moments. Might not be the best movie for younger kids. This is a must see.

    Go see this film!

    The reviews had not been great on this film, but don't believe them. The movie was a lot of fun and it had some great acting and action sequences. It was a really fun time at the movie

    great ride

    Just super duper as entertainment !! Loved it even though it is somewhat violent in parts. If you want to be entertained and aren't looking for some great and lofty intellectual message then by all means, "don't miss it"

    Gangster Squad

    Went to see Gangster Squad because we were interested in the story line with the added bonus of a great cast....were we disappointed! Although violent and not for children, the script felt like it was written by a third grader (strike one). The stars, although appealing in theory, were either miscast or mis directed (strike two). Which may have just been the fault of the director who seem to not really know which direction he wanted to take the picture in....action, drama, or as it came across, comedy! Biggest disappointment, Sean Penn as Mickey Cohen. He portrayed him like a cartoon character (think Al Pacino in **** Tracey) instead of a larger than life colorful yet wicked personality. Even the adorable Emma Stone was more cute than Veronica Lake sultry (strike three)....Swing and a (big) miss!

    Okay

    The directing was great, acting cinematography, blah, blah, blah. But what a movie comes down to is the story. When you make a film, you are trying to tell a story, and in this case, it was a bad one. I could see what was going to happen. I said it in my mind, and it literally happened (I won't say what, because that would spoil it). So I came out of the theater saying: "meh, it was OKAY." I would see things like Lincoln, Skyfall, Django Unchained, Argo, and (the best movie I have seen in a LONG time) The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey over this. But if you have seen all those movies and you want a bubblegum movie with a lot of action, sure see this. I wasn't too pleased with movie, but thought it was OKAY.

    Gangster Squad

    Love the actors and the humor...all but Sean Penn. Face acting has never been my favorite. He just phoned in this role which was arrogant cuz he was appearing with some really competent folk. Some funny exchanges to make one laugh. Too many bullets per killing! Gratuitous gang land violence. That being said, my grandchildren and I enjoyed the escape factor.

    Very entertaining action filled movie. Some of the good guys died but overall fun filled adventure. Would recommend to anyone who can get past the violence.

    Gangster Squad left me satisfied

    With the excitement of TV Shows like Boardwalk Empire and this new found love of reclaiming the history of mobsters etc. I was thrilled when Gangster Squad trailers began popping up everywhere.
    Because of the hype of Boardwalk, though I think Gangster Squad had a lot to live up to. There were some parts of the film that missed the mark. The movie starts slow and you can tell the actors are trying their best to live up to the period they are representing.
    The action scenes are out-of-this-world, in the sense that it's not your typical Hollywood movie. The way the film was shot gives it a more robust feel when watching the chasing scenes or seeing the guns pop and glow.
    There are elements of this film that will definitely keep you entertained. A lot more jokes and laughing then I thought there would be.
    Overall I will most likely see it again and it will definitely be added to my movie collection.
