    Predictable but enteraining

If you like The Untouchables or vigilante justice then this one is right up your alley.Be aware that although this is based on true facts, Hollywood has taken liberties in it's reenactment of actual events.

Good Lord Ryan Gosling is horrible for this.

    by schlaic

I was tired of his baby voice 2 minutes in. It's the exact opposite of tough guy gangster squad, and really pulls from the film. Besides the fact that the story isn't true, which was annoying, it's just unlikely and not compelling. The whole movie is just cheesy.

    very entertaining

Wow! What an entertaining flick. It claims to be based on a true story. I wonder how much is fact and how much is Hollywood. If the part about the undercover gangster squad's tatics is true: WOW! If only TODAY'S COPS could fight (literally) crime that way we'd have a whole lot less gangs!

    Boring

I'm sorry, the whole thing was a predictable bloody mess. The characters were boring and hardly developed at all. Emma Stone was dissappointing. Did not enjoy this, save your money, wait for the Redbox!

    Gangster Squad

Pointless violence and gore, and no real heart in the story. More like a cartoon. Sean Penn was ridicolous in his role of the villain, Mickey Coen. Too much shooting, and way too much gore. No empathy with any of the characters. I should ask for a refund.

Thanks for checking, but this is a bomb!!!!

    Gangster Squad

All actors wee fabulous!! This movie told a story from our past as well as was entertaining. I was pleased to see the accuracy of the props, from dinner ware, automobiles, store signs, clothing and language.

    "Gangster Squad" Campy Entertainment

My husband and I are big movie goers and we liked this for what it was: an over-Hollywood-ed, fascinating distortion of a violent part of American history. So we went home and researched to find out about Mickey Cohen and LA, discussing the overpowering gun play in light of the gangster era and the current emotional arguments about gun control.
Josh Brolin has an amazing face. Men should wear hats. And this movie can provide a great source of discussion. What's not to like?
It's a definite "GO" for people like us.

    Worth the $$$

Josh Brolin is AMAZING! As usual!!! Sean Penn was a hard ass, but he looked coked out the whole time. I don't know he just didn't look like the Sean I know and love. But he was still good. The story line was good. I'd recommend it.

    Noir? Action? Graphic?

    by PG1993

I still didn't get it. Lots of recalling of famous movies, but characters with little or no depth. Dialogue ridiculous at time? (Emma Stone at the bar with Ryan Gosling one, for example, Really??)

    Excellent

    by tarawa

Sean Penn very good in his role as well as the rest of the cast. Sometimes close to more than needed, ut doesn't detract from the movie as a whole. Nick Nolte better than I expected as Parker. Well worth it.

    Exciting movie with great acting

Sean Penn and Josh Brolin were great. Supporting cast, including Nick Nolte were also strong. Movie could have been better without some of the gratuitous violence but would still rate it as a must see.

    Better Than I Expected

    by MeashLL

This movie was better than I expected. I knew Sean Penn would be fantastic...he always is. But, I wasn't sure about Brolin and Gossling. They worked well together and everything played out well on screen. There was a little bit of creative liberty with the storytelling but all in all a pretty good movie.

Best Ganster movie in a long time.

    by jfesta

This telling and realistic movie about the Mobs attempt to infiltrate the politics, police and legal aspects of everyday life in Los Angelos is the best I have seen in a long time. If true in its depiction (which is seldom in modern movies) this movie gives a glimps of fresh air and a renewed belief that there were still honest brokers left in America. Even though I hate the current politics of the main actor, his acting was simply brilliant!

    Mr

    Too much violence.
If I would have to pick which mob movie was better on the west coast between The Gangster Squad and Chinatown with Jack Nicklas and Fay Danaway, I would pick Chinatown.

    Loved it!

    by

Not a chick flick, but it DOES have Ryan Gosling! Really enjoyed the movie. Sean Penn is amazing. Tons of violence. The period clothes and sets were beautiful. This chick loved it.
