    Gangster Squad

    Wife and I loved the film. It's a great get out for the night film. Lot's and lot's of action and of course you know which good guy is going to get killed. They paid a lot of attention to period detail in this film. They even made sure the right sounds went with each gun ex(BAR ,Thompson SMG, smeischer smg, shotguns etc.

    Fascinating watch

    The movie was very well written, well casted and well down. Absolutely no boring moments. Might not be the best movie for younger kids. This is a must see.

    Such a cast and such a bad movie...

    Its all the same again to me: writer/directors' films suck! Always!
    Gangster Squad's story is pretentious and melodramatic, the action is cheesy and not convincing. Characters lack dimension, the acting.... How do yo manage to use A list actors and have them act like amateurs? This is a worst act I saw from Penn, Gosling sounds repulsive...
    And the look of this film... Dreadful digital look of this film is just horrible. Action scenes look
    like they were shot on video camera.
    Another film shot digitally - another crap. Long and boring - not worth of watching.
    Hollywood at its worst.

    Good movie, but save your money and don't see it in theaters

    I liked the film, but I didn't love it, which is why I wouldn't pay to see it in theaters...save your money. The actors were great, an all star cast, but you never get attached to them. Ryan Gosling was charming and probably the only character that kept my attention. There are so many great gangster movies and this one just didn't stand out or even compete.

    Listen to the Fans, Ignore the Critics

    This was one of the best gangster movies I've ever seen. If I watched movies every day and had to write about them I'm sure my taste and ratings for films would probably change, noticing many of the films nuances, influences of "those that count", interpretations and such. Being that I am a weekend movie goer like most fans, I'm strictly out for the entertainment value and the acting. Sean Penn was a natural mob boss. I liked all of the individual characters and felt they all came across as being very believable; but what do I know, I'm just a fan! The film had a good combination of character development and action, with never a dull moment.

    A slice of LAPDs colorful history. Must See!

    The whole movie from start to finish had me hooked. It provided a refresh for me of Los Angeles during the late 40s and the famous Mickey Cohen. The parts where they kept going "over the river" to Burbank alway had me laughing. It was a fun cop action movie with light history lesson and some romance to boot. I almost did not go see this movie because of profession film reviews. Man, this is definitely one you have to see for yourself. The cast was solid and dynamic. The whole move had me going. Beginning to end. One last note. The movie can be pretty violent so heads up with the kiddies.

    perfect movie for a rainy day

    Gangster Squad is nobody's idea of Oscar fodder, but it met my needs perfdectly. I loved the period architecture, music, slang, and atmosphere. Was the violence over the top? Certainly, but not inaccurately so. I went to see this movie as pure escapism, and it hit the mark perfectly.

    NOT recommended for the squeamish or the historical accuracy nitpickers.

    Noir? Action? Graphic?

    I still didn't get it. Lots of recalling of famous movies, but characters with little or no depth. Dialogue ridiculous at time? (Emma Stone at the bar with Ryan Gosling one, for example, Really??)

    FANTASTIC!

    We went & saw Ganster Squad last week & it was FANTASTIC! There were a few parts I had to close my eyes on (missing body parts), but it was a great story & I enjoyed the non stop action! Recommend!

    Exciting & Thrilling

    This was a great movie. I'm not a Sean Penn fan but have to say he did an excellent job. If your looking for action this is the movie for you.

    A GREAT GANGSTER MOVIE

    Wow this movie was amazing ! Every action scene was so detailed with blood and a wow factor. I recomend seeing it because it gives you a true outlook on the gangster scene in los angeles in the 1940s. MUST SEE THIS MOVIE!!All the actors and actresses were on point and this movie is a tear jerker at some parts. This movie is more for adults due to the violence and some gore of blood.

    If you like The Untouchables or vigilante justice then this one is right up your alley.Be aware that although this is based on true facts, Hollywood has taken liberties in it's reenactment of actual events.

    Glamorous, Thrilling, Strong

    This is a first time review for me. I felt compelled to - the critics have this one all wrong.

    This move was a true pleasure - unbelievable cinematography, witty banter, and an aching nostalgia.

    If you love Mad Men, you'll swoon.

    Exciting, Fun Movie

    What a great movie! I wasn't expecting much since the critics haven't been too kind, but this was such a great movie. The acting was good, the plot was good, and the action was phenomenal. Sure, it's a little predictable but it's exciting and keeps you on the edge of your seat. The love story is great and I thoroughly enjoyed my experience

    Just turn off your brain and enjoy

    Take a bunch of square-jawed cops, add one scenery-chewing Sean Penn, give them Tommy guns and film noir lingo, disengage your higher brain functions and have fun. And when you've had your fill of blood, explosions, fistfights and power drills to the head, there's always Emma Stone to look at, wearing dresses so slinky that a Slinky will slink back up the stairs in shame.

    There, I did it. I used variations of 'slink' three times in one sentence. That required more intellect that you'll find in 'Gangster Squad's entire script. But, hey, it's January, and you can't spend all of the next two months trying to catch every Oscar-nominated film for 2012 that you missed.
