    Many Oscars for this one

It was a joy to see Lincoln come to life in this movie. Day-Lewis absolutely nailed his character right down to the timbre of his voice and his non confrontational mastery over his cabinet. This is a "don't miss" movie.

    Lincoln

A touching and comprehensive review of three critical months of Lincoln's presdiency. A very good look at how difficult it was for Lincoln to be President during the Civil War.

A outstanding look at one of the critical points in our history and the principles we were founded to oversee our democracy. Would recommend this movie to everyone.

    Intensely insightful

    by amarnel

Even though one knows the outcome of hte movie, Daniel Day Lewis and the excellent cast ot well known and character actors alike makes one feel like a fly on the wall of history unfolding. Even when the actors are not speaking they convey monologues with their facial expressions. The courtroom scenes were heartbreaking and one wonders how far have we really come in race relations. Historically accurate, well crafted, brilliantly acted, sensitively directed and with a script by Tony Kushner that is beyon reproach this is a bona fide Oscar contender.

    Lincoln

The movie started a little slow, but over all it is a MUST see. The acting is amazing!!! Some of the scenes were heart wrenching. Made us all think and talk about the sacrifices made then as well as today.
I felt it was very touching to see how important the 13TH Amendment was to President Lincoln.

    Lincoln

Daniel Day Lewis did an exceptional job as Lincoln. I enjoyed the movie tremendously. I was not aware of all the intricacies involved, but what would politics be without deceit and smoke-filled rooms. The 13th Amendment was very controversial. I like the turn of events when Tommy Lee Jones, as Thaddeus Stephens, comes home, takes off his wig and beds his black housekeeper. Straithern did a wonderful job as Seward. I was also surprised that the VP Andrew Johnson was not heard from during the movie. If you are a history buff, this is a must see movie. There is some graphic violence that may not be suitable for young people but it's part of our history.

    Wow Day-Lewis IS Lincoln

A phenomenal movie, well-research, written, and presented. Daniel Day-Lewis created a realistic portrait of Lincoln during the last few months of his life showing a man drained by four years of war both militarily and politically. Although some may be put off bu seeing a shuffling, bent, frail Lincoln, this matches written descriptions and photographs of Lincoln during this time.

The script, based on A Team of Rivals, shows Lincoln's quick wit and analytical mind as he struggles with issues of constitutionality of his actions throughout the war and his heroic effort to pass the 13th Amendment. In many ways, this was a time machine visit to the final days of the Civil War.

Sally Fields' portrayal of Mary Lincoln is also noteworthy. Both she and Day-Lewis deserve Oscar nods.

Unfortunately, this movie may be "too good" for average audiences who may not understand the lengths to which writers, and the producer and director went to create such a vision.

    Wish I stayed home

I know everyone is raving about this movie but as far as entertainment goes it is a snore. A history lesson for sure . . .Lincoln is accessible and more understandable but the movie feels stiff and boring. Like something you have to do. We wanted to leave several times.

    Politics...

    by rfisher

Does the end justify the means? This movie definitely raises this this question. This movie depicts the minutia of politics very well. Even knowing the outcome, it produces angst. It is not hard to understand why presidents age so rapidly while in office. At least those with a heart!
Daniel Day Lewis channels Lincoln. What a fabulous performance! Tommy Lee Jones well... just splendid.

    Very Good Movie

Daniel Day Lewis did an excellent job at portraying Abraham Lincoln and was exactly how I imagined the person would have been. Sally Field also did an excellent job as Mary Todd Lincoln. The movie was very well done and I thought it was very realistic as to how that time in history may have been while also lending insight to our present time. I think all of the actors involved were a very excellent choice. However, considering that time in history I think that there was probably more harsh profanity in the movie than what would have actually been used in that era, since there was a higher level of respect and regard for Christianity and Biblical principles during that time. While the movie did show a level of regard and esteem for Christianity, Biblical principles, and faith; which from my perspective was greatly appreciated, there could have been less harsh profanity.

    Lincoln

What a great movie! Superb performances from everyone, great sets and costuming. I completely agree with Doris Kearns Goodwin, Abraham Lincoln was sexy, and profoundly sensitive and brilliant. So is Daniel Day Lewis.

Great movie with impressive casting of every part! Magnificent, riveting performances by all, especially Sally Field and Daniel Day Lewis. No one was wanting and I appreciated the humorous lines and behavior in juxtaposition to the gravity of the times and the amendment they were so desperately trying to pass.

    Great movie

I loved this movie. It tells the story of the struggles to get the 13th Amendment passed in the middle of the Civil War. I would recommend it for teens and over . It should be required viewing in all high schools.

Great movie for the older crowd.

Saw this in the early matinee, so probably why the older crowd. This is not a movie that will keep you engaged if you desire constant slap-stick, tear jerking, action hero type stuff. It is quite literally a bunch of old me arguing over something that will be lost to those with out a classical education, or much reading into the issue of slavery and our Constitution. However, if History is your thing, it is a definite MUST SEE! Superb acting and interpretation of historical figures by the cast. Tommy Lee Jones will not disappoint!

    Much ado about little

Rather than finding myself transported into the 19th century as one critic promised, I found Lincoln and others re-made to fit 21st century attitudes. For example, the film opens with a young black soldier gallantly lecturing the president on matters of racial equality in the military. How very progressive for 1864!

Lincoln struggles with the question of pardoning a 16 year old for creative desertion, yet we know from history that he had few such qualms about executing 38 Indians who fought for freedom and justice in the Sioux "Uprising".

I was hoping for a treatment that would include Lincoln's flaws, rather than to excuse his mistakes as somehow noble and just. The acting was adequate, but often over-done.

Nothing here worth seeing on the big screen.
