Wow Day-Lewis IS Lincoln
A phenomenal movie, well-research, written, and presented. Daniel Day-Lewis created a realistic portrait of Lincoln during the last few months of his life showing a man drained by four years of war both militarily and politically. Although some may be put off bu seeing a shuffling, bent, frail Lincoln, this matches written descriptions and photographs of Lincoln during this time.
The script, based on A Team of Rivals, shows Lincoln's quick wit and analytical mind as he struggles with issues of constitutionality of his actions throughout the war and his heroic effort to pass the 13th Amendment. In many ways, this was a time machine visit to the final days of the Civil War.
Sally Fields' portrayal of Mary Lincoln is also noteworthy. Both she and Day-Lewis deserve Oscar nods.
Unfortunately, this movie may be "too good" for average audiences who may not understand the lengths to which writers, and the producer and director went to create such a vision.
