    Awesome

Fantastic history piece. Daniel deserves an Oscar! The movie moves slowly through the story because of its attention to the historical details, and at the end of the 2.5 hours you feel you've only been watching it an hour. It holds your attention completely the entire film! Bravo!

    Wow

this is one of the best movies I've ever seen....Spielberg made the audience on with the movie, as though watching the events unfold as we stood on the sidelines.....i'd see it again. daniel day lewis and sally field should be shoo ins for the Academy Awards...but really the movie should take all categories ...nothing else could have made it any better.

    Makes Lincoln accessible

This is a very enjoyable film that displays the incredible performances of the lead actors.

If there is a weakness, the story over the enacting of the 13th amendment seems a bit melodramatic compared to the real conflict that waged on the battlefield. This makes the film slow at times, much like on of Lincoln's many stories.

In all, it made this historical man very accessible to people of our age.

    Lincoln

Fantastic storytelling of history, directing and cinematography. Made you feel you were actually helplessly watching him suffer with the horrors of the civil war while being a gentle caring man trying to govern a unruly nation. Really brought a man from the history books to life. It made you see the origins of the disagreements between the two parties and classes which continues with government today. Great movie - definitely should win many awards but also should be required viewing by our school kids today.

Episode 5 of a Great 6 Part Miniseries

Don't get me wrong - I loved the film and I think everyone should see it. Daniel Day Lewis is astonishing. Sally Fields is great. Many great supporting characters. My only real complaint is that the film focuses almost exclusively on January 1865 and the lead up to the passage of the 13th Amendment by the House of Representatives. There's maybe 15 minutes tacked onto the end dealing with the end of the Civil War and the death of Lincoln. I would have vastly preferred this film to have been the second to last episode in an HBO's-John-Adams-style miniseries, so we could see a little of how Lincoln became president and his first term in office and reelection and more of how he handled the Civil War, and another whole episode after this firm dealing with the end of his life. In that regard, I was very disappointed and really have to wonder whether a topic like this should ever be dealt with again in anything other than a fully fleshed out miniseries format.

    Lincoln

    by dvmoser

As usual, Speilberg has done a masterful job. Daniel Day Lewis is fabulous! I wouldn't have picked him to play Lincoln, but he Was Lincoln! I really enjoyed this portrayal of these seminal events in our nation's history.

    Long but Worth It!!!

I could not believe it was so good! At first it seemed to drag on but it started getting interesting with the vote of the Amendement coming up and then the ending came up so soon afterwards, I was a little shocked that it was already over! I did not even realize that two and a half hours went by the quick. Definetly a must-see if you like histroy; ESPECIALLY if you love Abraham Loncoln, his fight for slave abolishment and the machine that is our government back then!

    Absolutely. Fantastic. Movie.

    by grameme

Not enough words to describe how much I enjoyed this movie. Very powerful performances by the entire cast. This would be worthy of being shown in history classes across America. So proud my state was recognized in such a positive way. Will no doubt be awarded numerous times in many categories. Thank you, thank you Steven Spielberg!!!!!!

    an okay movie ...

    by JWSofia

The acting and character portrayal were excellent. The sets and scenes conveyed a strong sense of the historical time and place. But the weighty polical dialog was monotonous and inescapable for two and half hours focusing on a mere 6 months of Lincoln's life. Also, I personally don't find the backroom machinations of politicians particularly entertaining or enlightening. And this movie also puts a positive veneer (spin) on corrupt political manipulation ... if "the cause is just" ...

    good acting but l-o-n-g

From a historical perspective, I found it interesting to learn how difficult it was to get the amendment passed, and what fannegling went on behind the scenes -- politics as usual. But both my partner and I had a hard time understanding a lot of the dialogue. It was long and sometimes confusing. Daniel Day-Lewis did an excellent job portraying Lincoln.

    Daniel Day Lewis

Great movie. Understated for Spielberg, which he needed to do to make this film work. For me, Daniel Day Lewis even surpassed the rave reviews he's been getting. Must see performance

    Lincoln

President Lincoln was an impressive historical figure whom we learned about in our history books and from our personal family anecdotes..."Lincoln freed the slaves". He was one political person that we, as a black family, had emotional ties to. The movie and it's delving into the backroom "wheeling and dealing" that Lincoln did in order to influence the passage of the 13th amendment was something the pedestrian student didn't read about. I thank Mr. Spielberg for employing is talents and treasure to bring this vibrant portrayal of a leader who's staunch and unwavering beliefs allowed millions of people, to begin to enjoy the fruits of their labors and mental acuity.

    surprised

    by rstgirl

Nice to see a film that assumes its audience is intelligent. Great acting. The cinematography and costume and set design really take you there. Did not realize it would be so intense. Brought up tears for what our country went through. Have to read more about it now.

This Art Met History and Fiction Prevailed.....It's Entertaining None The Less.

Albeit more historically accurate than "Abe Lincoln Vampire Hunter," this Abe isn't all that honest. Believe what you will but artistic license was taken, revoked, suspended, reinstated and now the artist is doing his mandatory three to life. I like Mr. SS's as much as any movie buff but before the general public swallows this basically "history revised by Hollywierd," they'd do well to heed the words, "those who forget the lessons of history are doomed to repeat them." Dismiss me, laugh, whatever floats your boat but from the first scene to the last, this was a melodramatic play, loosely based on (not in) historical fact. See it though. It's much better than the "Abe" Vampire movie OR the other Vampire movie that opened this weekend. Just don't learn history from movies and TV.....read.
