    Lincoln

I don't go to a lot of movies but this one really caught my attention. I am not a historian so I
cannot testify tothe movie's historical accuracy but the whole movie was wonderful. the portrayal of the times and the acting were great. The cinematography was beautiful.
This is a movie for everyone to see. I hope that when it is released on DVD that Spielberg's earlier movie "AMISTAD" will be released on DVD and blu-ray at the same time. That movie, staring Anthony Hopkins, Morgan Freeman, Matthew McConaughey, and others was great as
well and deals with the slavery issue about 30 years earlier. In fact it would be really great if that movie ran in the same theaters as Lincoln at the same time..

    Wow

this is one of the best movies I've ever seen....Spielberg made the audience on with the movie, as though watching the events unfold as we stood on the sidelines.....i'd see it again. daniel day lewis and sally field should be shoo ins for the Academy Awards...but really the movie should take all categories ...nothing else could have made it any better.

Not much has changed in Congress!

At least they finally got good things done, after all the nudges and 'deals' in government!
Congress ahould be required to watch it and see all the 'behind the scenes gimics played out for the public to watch.

    Lincoln

The movie can be complicated at times but still very good. It left me with the feeling of wanting to watch it again to see if I can figure a few things out that I did not really understand. You leave the theater with a actual feeling of KNOWING President Abraham Lincoln. Amazing feeling.

    Good movie.

I found the movie to be very educative. I think Sally Field was brilliant.
And Tommy Lee brought some humor to the movie.
A must see...I can see some of the actor taking awards this year.

    Lincoln

Abraham Lincolln is my favorite president, but even though i liked the movie, and the acting was superior, i wanted to know more about the man and i think the movie deallt with only the one issue of passing the 13th ammendment. I had previewed the soundtrack as well, but i don't remember hearing all the songs in the actual movie. I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone based on the acting and the directing by steven speilberg.

    Lincoln - Spot On

This movie is by far the best and most accurate depiction of Lincoln and the Lincoln presidency I have seen to date. It captures the majority of written history we know today.

    Oscar for Daniel

Such a pleasure to see this actor once again master a character. Sally also nailed Mary Todd. The music was inspired but could have been less, and especially more Copeland inspired, less Sousa. Steven has his masterful team of cameras, lighting, sets and costumes do their magic. A more realistic portrayal of the black soldiers and servants might have made me trust the story more but Steven, Doris and Tony had a story to tell their way. The ending is true Hollywood, left me disenchanted.

    Lincoln

Halfway thru the movie, iturned to my wife, and said "I am glad they invented electric lights." That being said, I thought the movie was great - storytelling at it's best. I will have to see it again.

    A realistic portrayal

This film portrays the reality of democracy in action. Ending slavery was idealist intention and regarded as among the great achievements of the American devotion to. Liberty and justice. But this film shows that ideals are achieved by down and dirty political wrangling. The film should remind viewers of today

    History Channel Special

An excellent work of historical drama, showing the inner workings of politics and governance have been with us from the beginning. But I have to say that Daniel Day Lewis is not the Lincoln that I expected. While an excellent actor, I do not believe this was an accurate portrayal of Abraham Lincoln. The story moved VERY slowly, felt like real time at points. And I wanted to see some of the strength and regal bearing that Lincoln is reported to have had in great measure. Lewis's Lincoln comes off as the bowed, sensitive, soft spoken, politician with the single-ness of purpose to get the deed done... AND I hated the ending.

    Lincoln

How can you go wrong when Doris Kearns Goodwin and Speilberg collaborate on a film. Her story telling brilliance and his film making magic combine to make one of the best movies I've seen in years!! Some of the negative comments I've read in the adjoining box are ridiculous and must have been written by people who are either 12 or have an I.Q of 12. The movie is a history lesson wrapped in a fascinating story. Daniel Day Lewis, Straithan (sp.), Spader, Jones, and Field are magnificent in their roles. How anyone could watch this movies and not walk away with a good feeling about how our forefathers struggled to make this country as good as it could possibly be, is beyond me. I had many laughs at the anecdotes and behavior of the characters and I had a tear in my eye thinking about the atrocities we allowed against our fellow man - just because their skin was a different color. I also felt sorry for Lincoln and his family for the personal toll this struggle took on their lives.

    Well Worth Seeing

My wife and I appreciated the inside view of the real-life politics of the Civil War era and all the effort it took to get the 13th Amendment passed. The movie also provided a glimpse into Lincoln's talent as a storyteller.

    Amazing

    by areed54

No small feat to take an iconic figure like Abraham Lincoln and humanize him. Daniel Day-Lewis not only gives Lincoln the voice of a man reared in Kentucky and Illinois, but his body conveys the heaviness this president carried. Sally Field's portrayal of Mary Todd is a careful balance between the intelligence of the woman and her darkness. Yes, it is true: you have to think, you have to listen. If we made a list of movies every candidate for federal office (not to mention every voter) needs to see, this one would be on the top.
