    A realistic portrayal

This film portrays the reality of democracy in action. Ending slavery was idealist intention and regarded as among the great achievements of the American devotion to. Liberty and justice. But this film shows that ideals are achieved by down and dirty political wrangling. The film should remind viewers of today

not quite what i expected. very narrow focus and time frame. worht the price of admission just to watch daniel day lewis at his craft. maybe the best acting performance i have ever seen in my 44 years!

    an okay movie ...

    by JWSofia

The acting and character portrayal were excellent. The sets and scenes conveyed a strong sense of the historical time and place. But the weighty polical dialog was monotonous and inescapable for two and half hours focusing on a mere 6 months of Lincoln's life. Also, I personally don't find the backroom machinations of politicians particularly entertaining or enlightening. And this movie also puts a positive veneer (spin) on corrupt political manipulation ... if "the cause is just" ...

good direction, too limited to small part of lincoln's life. some historical errors. scenes were in many cases too dark. dialog was too muted in some scenes. some events were not understood by general public and needed explanation. daniel lewis was outstanding and should get the academy award. picture probably will not since hollywood does not seem to like steven spielberg as evidenced by their selection of SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE over SAVING PRIVATE RYAN.

    Lincoln Grogs

Historically this movie was great. It was very long and drawn out without very much dynamic transitions. I would like to have seen more drama vs. "story" telling. Needs to be seen but I probably wont watch it again.

    Lincoln

The movie can be complicated at times but still very good. It left me with the feeling of wanting to watch it again to see if I can figure a few things out that I did not really understand. You leave the theater with a actual feeling of KNOWING President Abraham Lincoln. Amazing feeling.

You have to be kidding me!!!!!

Just went to see this one and with all the Hype about award winning content and performances this is posibly the biggest let down I have ever had at a movie. For starters, this movie is one big bore and I mean that sincerely. This is 2 1/2 hours of Lincoln and his Republican Congressmen twisting arms and bribing people to push through the 13th ammendment. Tommy Lee Jones might be the only saving Grace in this movie as his performance and character portrayal are the only interesting and enetertaining part of this over-rated bomb. If you open up an 8th grade level history book it is more educational than the content here and quite frankly some of the lines written into this are flat out unbelievable, but presented to you as though it were solid fact. The only thing more shocking to me than this dud are the reviews that it has received from people and critics.. My only guess is that most people in this country never learned history in school. Buy a book and get the real truth.

    Lincoln

Abraham Lincolln is my favorite president, but even though i liked the movie, and the acting was superior, i wanted to know more about the man and i think the movie deallt with only the one issue of passing the 13th ammendment. I had previewed the soundtrack as well, but i don't remember hearing all the songs in the actual movie. I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone based on the acting and the directing by steven speilberg.

Lincoln lovers will be most impressed

I watched Lincoln with a friend who had read a lot of the history about Lincoln whereas I knew/remembered very little. I was touched by the character of Lincoln but felt like beginning was a little dry. She however was enthralled with the story and accuracy to what she had remembered and how well Daniel Day Lewis portrayed that character. Overall the acting, cinematography seemed excellent. As for the movie as a whole, people with knowledge of Lincoln history may get the most bang for the buck on this one while others may have a harder time. I still however, enjoyed the movie as a whole.

My rating for this movie is 5 (five) Stars!!!!! Oscar material!

This is a powerful movie! The acting was just what I expected...quality, subperb! Loved the banter (just like today's fight D's against R's). I can't wait to purchase the DVD.

Put this on your must see list.

Sally Field is great! Whoever cast her choose the right actress. She's still got it!

Hal Holbrook outstanding! Tommy Lee - Wonderful! Abe Licoln..heart warming.

Mr. Steven you did it again.

Cinematography made my stomach a little sick too real.

    Lincoln

I don't go to a lot of movies but this one really caught my attention. I am not a historian so I
cannot testify tothe movie's historical accuracy but the whole movie was wonderful. the portrayal of the times and the acting were great. The cinematography was beautiful.
This is a movie for everyone to see. I hope that when it is released on DVD that Spielberg's earlier movie "AMISTAD" will be released on DVD and blu-ray at the same time. That movie, staring Anthony Hopkins, Morgan Freeman, Matthew McConaughey, and others was great as
well and deals with the slavery issue about 30 years earlier. In fact it would be really great if that movie ran in the same theaters as Lincoln at the same time..

    Daniel Day Lewis

Great movie. Understated for Spielberg, which he needed to do to make this film work. For me, Daniel Day Lewis even surpassed the rave reviews he's been getting. Must see performance

    Lincoln

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. The movie helped to give me some incite as to what President Lincoln was like, as well as others in that time. I find it a shame that with all the advances we have made it this world we really still have not gotten past all that and learned to live together treating and excepting each other as equals.

    surprised

    by rstgirl

Nice to see a film that assumes its audience is intelligent. Great acting. The cinematography and costume and set design really take you there. Did not realize it would be so intense. Brought up tears for what our country went through. Have to read more about it now.

    Absolutely. Fantastic. Movie.

    by grameme

Not enough words to describe how much I enjoyed this movie. Very powerful performances by the entire cast. This would be worthy of being shown in history classes across America. So proud my state was recognized in such a positive way. Will no doubt be awarded numerous times in many categories. Thank you, thank you Steven Spielberg!!!!!!
