    Lincoln

Fran Valentine, spouse writes"this was my second time seeing the film. I brought a friend Who loved it. I got so much more out of it this time. My husband Kendall saw it with me the first time and thought it was outstanding. Everyone I talked to felt the same and I have recommended it to many. The AMC stadium Gallery Place is my favorite cinema in Washington.DC. Fandango was good because this movie was sold out the first time we tried".

    Wonderful American film

    by Garnie

This film concentrates on the last four months of Lincoiln's life. There is much I did not know about Lincoln and the period covered in the movie. I cannot imagine a better actor to plan Lincoln than Daniel Day Lewis. He IS Lincoln. Sally Field is really convincing as Mary Todd Lincoln. All in all I recommend this movie.

    Lost in Time

The skills of Spielberg, actors practicing their craft at a superior level and the landscapes of the era will have you lost in time as you watch one of our greatest Presidents orchestrate the passage of arguably, the most important ammendment to our Constitution. History has never been so entertaining.

    good acting but l-o-n-g

From a historical perspective, I found it interesting to learn how difficult it was to get the amendment passed, and what fannegling went on behind the scenes -- politics as usual. But both my partner and I had a hard time understanding a lot of the dialogue. It was long and sometimes confusing. Daniel Day-Lewis did an excellent job portraying Lincoln.

    Well Worth Seeing

My wife and I appreciated the inside view of the real-life politics of the Civil War era and all the effort it took to get the 13th Amendment passed. The movie also provided a glimpse into Lincoln's talent as a storyteller.

    Lincoln

This movie will probably go down as one of the great movies of this century. I believe it will win for best movie of the year. As history it showed a Lincoln who was brave smart and understanding his time in history. Coming at this time of a historical election withe first African American president. It does what history do-- teach.

Not much has changed in Congress!

At least they finally got good things done, after all the nudges and 'deals' in government!
Congress ahould be required to watch it and see all the 'behind the scenes gimics played out for the public to watch.

Excellent Performances, but slow, plodding script

    by

Daniel Day-Lewis is outstanding - acting does not get any better. Sally Field is perfection as Mary. Tommy Lee Jones give the best performance of his career.

The weakness is the script, editing and Spielberg's plodding direction. The scenes go on too long and it becomes self-indulgent and repetitive in it's preachy message.

I wanted to see more of the persoanl side of Lincoln and not so much the political. We do see how rotten politicians were then and how nothing has changed but only gotten worse.

The overall feel of the movie is dark, dirty and somber. It lulls you to sleep at times.

I was expecting a better overall film and not just pieces.

    Brillian Daniel Day-Lewis

WORTH SEEING: Daniel Day-Lewis is magnificent in Spielberg's Lincoln, which is very well made. Best decisions: it begins with the Gettysburg Address, and ends with the Second Inaugural, which is probably the greatest American political speech of all time.

Lincoln is an OK movie, too long to be so bland

I went into the movie with low expectations, expecting it to be a blasé documentary about the attempt to pass the 13th Amendment and that's what I got out of it. Two-and-a-half hours worth. I was fidgety at the 1:45 mark.

I was not aware that President Lincoln sounded exactly like a monotone Bill Clinton. Interesting. There was no emotional range to the portrayal of the President save for a 30-second spot. Oh, and he slapped a table loudly once. No doubt the guilt at American history will compel the Academy to undeservedly bestow D-Day Lewis and the flick an Oscar (though Argo was far better).

It's flat, even-keeled movie, interesting from a historical perspective but blandly acted (save for Sally Field) and with nearly no character development whatsoever, also save for the First Lady (Sally Field). The final scene of the movie seemed gratuitous and out of context.

Not a great movie, but fine for fans of history and period pieces.

    Lincoln Too Lengthy

    by Doc105

I am very interested in the Civil War era in this country, but this movie should have ended an hour before it did. The private moments between Lincoln and his Cabinet were well done, and Sally Fields as Mary Todd Lincoln and Tommy Lee Jones as Thaddeus Stevens, the Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, turned in their usual stellar performances, but it barely made the extra hour worth sitting through. Probably worth a look, but if this is not a movie that you say to yourself afterward, "Where did the time go?" This is because everyone around me, including myself, was checking their watches every twenty minutes or so after the first hour and a half.

    lincoln

good direction, too limited to small part of lincoln's life. some historical errors. scenes were in many cases too dark. dialog was too muted in some scenes. some events were not understood by general public and needed explanation. daniel lewis was outstanding and should get the academy award. picture probably will not since hollywood does not seem to like steven spielberg as evidenced by their selection of SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE over SAVING PRIVATE RYAN.

    Good movie.

I found the movie to be very educative. I think Sally Field was brilliant.
And Tommy Lee brought some humor to the movie.
A must see...I can see some of the actor taking awards this year.

    Lincoln

Halfway thru the movie, iturned to my wife, and said "I am glad they invented electric lights." That being said, I thought the movie was great - storytelling at it's best. I will have to see it again.
