    Wow

this is one of the best movies I've ever seen....Spielberg made the audience on with the movie, as though watching the events unfold as we stood on the sidelines.....i'd see it again. daniel day lewis and sally field should be shoo ins for the Academy Awards...but really the movie should take all categories ...nothing else could have made it any better.

    Lincoln

Lincoln was excellent. Daniel Day-Lewis did a fantastic job -- he truly became Lincoln in this movie. Wonderful supporting cast.

I would highly recommend this movie.

Best movie that I've seen in years!

If you haven't seen the movie "Lincoln" yet, make sure you see it soon at the theater. It is one of the best written and directed productions that I have seen in years. It's a great movie and a great lesson in American history. The actors are perfectly cast. It is a five-star movie all the way.

I would suggest purchasing your ticket online before heading to the theater. The line at the box office was 60 or 70 people deep (for an afternoon matinee). I walked right in past the crowd with my pre-purchased ticket.

    Lost in Time

The skills of Spielberg, actors practicing their craft at a superior level and the landscapes of the era will have you lost in time as you watch one of our greatest Presidents orchestrate the passage of arguably, the most important ammendment to our Constitution. History has never been so entertaining.

    Lincoln's determination wins

At last a brutally realistic portrayal of Civil War times on screen. The movie is long and wordy, not for action fans, but any American who wonders how a nation based on freedom and equality for all allowed slavery to persist for nearly 100 years after the Declaration of Independence was signed. Lincoln's determination to end slavery in his second term as President drives the film. The masterful performances by the actors bring this long ago time to life. I highly recommend seeing "Lincoln".

    Emperor's New Movie

Why in the world are people calling this movie good?!? Is it out of some sort of misguided sense of patriotism? Okay, the cast and acting are good, but the bottom line here is this movie is BORING. Soooo boring. Most boring movie I've ever seen, and I've seen Wyatt Earp.

It could have been so good, but they turn it into the equivalent of watching 2 hours of C-Span in 1873. What that means is the whole movie is nothing but the political procedure of manipulating men and getting the bill passed. Do you care that the bill is passed? No. They made no attempt to show the inhumanity of slavery or presented any characters with which to empathize with or pull for. Slavery is ended and you couldn't care less.

Then there's the war going on that's constantly being referred to. I'd like to care that my fellow countrymen are dying over their differences. I want to feel the desire for the war to end by getting the bill passed. But I don't. Because I never see the war. Only old men bickering.

    Lincoln

I thought that this was a very well done movie. I thought that Lincoln was portrayed in a new and most human way. Lewis did a wonderful job and cemented is reputation as one of our finest actors. The supporting cast gave wonderful performances as well. I really like the way that they dealt with the political wrangling that was common in the 19th century politics. Sally Fields showed that she has matured as an actress, considering some of her other roles that she has done over the years. Tommy Lee Jones, as always, brought his A game to the film. The movie was photographed beautifully giving a true sense of the time. My only regret, though I understand it due to the limitations of keeping the movie to 2 1/2 hours, is that more was not made of Lincoln's relation with Sec. of War. Edward Stanton. What impressed me most about the cast is how close most of them looked like the people they portrayed. I really felt that I went back in time.

    Well Worth Seeing

My wife and I appreciated the inside view of the real-life politics of the Civil War era and all the effort it took to get the 13th Amendment passed. The movie also provided a glimpse into Lincoln's talent as a storyteller.

    History Channel Special

An excellent work of historical drama, showing the inner workings of politics and governance have been with us from the beginning. But I have to say that Daniel Day Lewis is not the Lincoln that I expected. While an excellent actor, I do not believe this was an accurate portrayal of Abraham Lincoln. The story moved VERY slowly, felt like real time at points. And I wanted to see some of the strength and regal bearing that Lincoln is reported to have had in great measure. Lewis's Lincoln comes off as the bowed, sensitive, soft spoken, politician with the single-ness of purpose to get the deed done... AND I hated the ending.

    A realistic portrayal

This film portrays the reality of democracy in action. Ending slavery was idealist intention and regarded as among the great achievements of the American devotion to. Liberty and justice. But this film shows that ideals are achieved by down and dirty political wrangling. The film should remind viewers of today

    Lincoln

Halfway thru the movie, iturned to my wife, and said "I am glad they invented electric lights." That being said, I thought the movie was great - storytelling at it's best. I will have to see it again.

    good acting but l-o-n-g

From a historical perspective, I found it interesting to learn how difficult it was to get the amendment passed, and what fannegling went on behind the scenes -- politics as usual. But both my partner and I had a hard time understanding a lot of the dialogue. It was long and sometimes confusing. Daniel Day-Lewis did an excellent job portraying Lincoln.

    Makes Lincoln accessible

This is a very enjoyable film that displays the incredible performances of the lead actors.

If there is a weakness, the story over the enacting of the 13th amendment seems a bit melodramatic compared to the real conflict that waged on the battlefield. This makes the film slow at times, much like on of Lincoln's many stories.

In all, it made this historical man very accessible to people of our age.

    surprised

    by rstgirl

Nice to see a film that assumes its audience is intelligent. Great acting. The cinematography and costume and set design really take you there. Did not realize it would be so intense. Brought up tears for what our country went through. Have to read more about it now.
