    Awesome, Serious, but awesome.

    by

Daniel Day-Lewis once again wins the Oscar. This is a role designed for Award-bait but that doesn't make it any less of a accomplishment because Lincoln is such an iconic character and the performance was so subtle and expert. Sally Field was the weakest link in a all-around great ensemble cast with many faces you'll recognize who disappear into their characters.

This movie is a courtroom-like political drama. The script must have been 12 inches thick, the dialogue is just densely packed with wit, powerful monologues and era specific language. This is an All-American classic in the very best of ways and it will almost certainly be a staple for U.S. History classes for decades to come.

    Great movie!

This is a long movie, a lot of dialog but you are so into the movie you lose track of time. Daniel Day Lewis, Sally Field, Tommy Lee Jones and the rest of this star studded cast are amazing. I hope I get a chance to see it again before it is out of the theaters.

    Lincoln Champions the 13th Amendment

The circumstances surrounding Congress passing the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution during the closing days of the Civil War is the movie's focus. Lincoln's political savvy coupled with his personal respect of all those around him define his character and his drive to accomplish this seemingly impossible task. Because of the common goodness of Lincoln's bearing, he stands above all others. The movie, I am sure is much like Lincoln was himself, so focused and absorbing you only realize their greatness after it and likewise his life finish.

    Lincoln

    by misty18

Just a great movie and the cast was fantastic. D.D.Lewis became Lincoln he should win an Oscar for his portrayal of this great man. Tommy Lee Jones was perfect, Sally Fields did an outstanding job as Mrs. Lincoln. The theater was pretty full for a Tuesday night and you could hear a pin drop. Just a great tribute to a great man. Go see this one.

    Outstanding

This 2 1/2 hours went by so fast it was hard to believe it was over. Fabulous cast, well written script, perfect costumes. This is a do not miss movie. If you are taking young people, it would be good to review some of the period history so they understand what led up to the events. I have NEVER been able to sit through a 2 hours movie without having to get up once and I was unable to leave my seat during this extraordinarily well done historical piece.

    It was fantastic!

A lot of people have been complaining about Daniel Day-Lewis' voice as Lincoln, but if they read about him, they would know that Lincoln's actual voice was high pitched and nasally. Hence, Daniel Day-Lewis was fantastic as Lincoln. There is no doubt this will be a strong contender for all the awards this year.
The heart breaking scenes of the battles, the field after the battle, and the hospital scenes all make war a reality for those of us who have not been in battle.
The fighting of the House of Representatives makes me think not much has changed. Maybe Washington should make it mandatory for all politicians to see this movie so we can all work together to make America the great place we know it can be.
I would recommend this to everyone!

    Disneyesque

Fairly authentic characterization of Lincoln's times. Enjoyed seeing real debates; wish our legislators still conducted business that way. Glad my wife made me see it on the big screen. Powerful performances by skillful actors and actresses.

    Lincoln

    by thmsabl

It was a fair representation of the struggle it took to pass the 13 Amendment through the House. It was interesting to note that the scriptwriter actually had Lincoln acknowledge he circumvented the Constitution in unethical and possible illegal ways. This is not how Lincoln is ever dared portrayed. The movie also does a great job of depicting Lincoln as a talented and gifted politician, not the kindhearted "aw shucks" bumpkin history has relegated him to. I think the film did an admirable job showing how absolutely polarized people were on the issue of slavery, even amongst the states which stayed apart of the union, and how hard Lincoln had to fight even those in his own party to end it. Daniel Day Lewis was brilliant as Lincoln, and Sally Field managed to bring depth to a character long thought to be silly, vain, and weak. In short, it was a good movie and worth the money.

    Acting and Makeup = Superb

    by bloomie

Amazing facts woven into a great story line. Showed that some behind-the-scenes political maneuvering was all too common even in those days! Gripping, eye-opening, and heart rendering. Not surprising for a Spielberg film!

    Lincoln

I learned a lot about Lincoln and what a hard time it was for him and his family. I was able to stay awake which is good news for me because when a movie is boring I have a hard time staying awake. The acting was superb. At times the rhetoric when they were debating the bill was a little hard to follow. The 3 people that I went with enjoyed the movie also.

    Too long and slow moving

    by loara71

This movie could have been shown in 1/2 the time. It is too long and very slow moving.

The movie depicts the struggle to get 13th amendment into the constitution (slavery). It makes one think that the war between the states was ONLY about slavery which it wasn't. The civil war was about states rights in general with slavery being one of those southern rights.

Acting = just fair but if I had to pick the best actor it would have to go to Sally Field (Mary Todd)

Suggestion = stay home and don't waste the money. Wait until it is out on DVD than rent it. Don't buy it since I am sure there will be other Lincoln movies that will be better than this one.

    A must see

Great movie. I thought the acting and the cinematography were great. Day Lewis played and amazing role. I also thought that Tommy Lee Jones played an amazing supporting actor.

    Lots of liberties????

I read a lot of Presidential biographies and I gave this movie a so-so rating. Lincoln the character was done well, Sally Fields was outstanding and yes Mary Todd was considered a nut by historians, yet she showed the strength of our first Lady.

I liked it - but thought it would be more....... Can't explain what was missing. Acting was good - no tears, but laughs. My husband had difficulty hearing the conversations - but I didn't.

Lincoln - A Must See Movie

I expected a slow paced, historical docu-drama. What I got was a moving drama, with wonderful touches of humor, that bought the marble seated giant of Washington to life. This Speilberg movie is not for children but certainly for the young at heart and mind. It is certain to inspire the curious to learn more about this political icon and amazing earthly being. If you like history but hate trudging through the past, this is a must-see movie. Be prepared to applaud at the end of the movie.

Wiswell Finally saw Lincoln. Interesting movie – plodding, pensive and emotive, the kind of movie Spielberg was once accused of killing.
