Not a History buff but...Boy oh boy!!!

I bought tickets for my husband little did I know I would be glued to the screen (I even brought my iPod just incase) It was funny not belly laugh but some lines will are quoteable. Maybe history had Mary Todd Lincoln all wrong, She was not crazy but grieving. When the 13th Admendment passed I cried. It was so powerfull you saw how involved Lincoln was to get this passed. It was gritty and protrayed Lincoln as a loving father, a man that saw his wifes issues and was not afraid to confront them. But the suprise came towards the end, just wait until you see Tommy Lee Jones, its almost the best part. ALL young people even at the age 10 need to see how our country once was. It will teach them what humanity really is & something that needs to come back to this country to become great again. Compassion, caring and fighting for what you beleive in no matter what it is, STAND STRONG AND DON'T GIVE UP.
TAKE THE ENTIRE FAMILY TO SEE BECAUSE THS IS SOMETHING SCHOOL DOES NOT TEACH US & SHOULD

    Extremely entertaining and insightful

    by Donzer

I though Lincoln was an extraordinary film. Great insight into the courage and compassion of a true leader. I learned a lot about the determination and courage of this president through the movie. Couldn't have been done better in my opinion. All of the cast played their roles splendidly.

    Don't miss this great film.

    A LITTLE DISAPPOINTED!

I was very excited to see "Lincoln"; however, it really didn't meet my expectations. It did show the political process and all that it involved. But I felt the movie was rather long and a little dry. I would have liked to explore the dynamics of the different characters and how their life experiences shaped the people they were; i.e., Mary Todd Lincoln - more about the death of their son, Willie and how it affected their marriage. All in all, I would recommend seeing it but maybe waiting for the DVD is better.

    Not what I expected...

Daniel Day Lewis' portrayal of Lincoln was excellent, and the content was very interesting, but the way it was all put together just didn't seem to be all that cohesive.
I expected to walk away with a sense of awe, but just ended up leaving a little disappointed.

    Out of body experience

I have a renewed respect for great movies and after watching Lincoln, I can all thank god for Mr. Speilberg. He never disappoints. I actually felt as if I was there. Rare is a great movie that makes you spellbound. More rare is to find yourself transferred by a time machine and relish every second of the experience. I am not a Movie critic. I am a 64 year old man who has become more proud to be an American after watching this movie. Thank you Mr. Speilberg.

Awesome! If you're in to history, especially on one of our best leaders, you have to see this movie. Terrific directinbg and acting from the entire cast. May turn out to be a bit dull for younger children, but from young adults and the older generation, it's fascinating. See it in a big screen theater before it's on PPV or DVD!

I'm a big O'Reilly fan and really enjoyed his book and am awaiting the movie version. However, this film has to do with the 13th ammendment and the difficulty he had trying to get it through the diiferent parts of our government. How much of it is factual and how much was added for dramatic effect is up for debate, but this is a "must see" film.

    Lincoln

A wonderful mix of the art of politics and deal making. It shows that Lincoln was more than an iconic figure, he was a master politician and very human.
Fantastic performances from Daniel Day Lewis and Tommy Lee Jones. I highly recommend it, as a history lesson and motion picture.

    Lincoln

Though I am not a historian the movie felt very fact based. I thought that Lewis did an incredible job portraying Abe Lincoln as a man with deep feelings and an artful way of working with all people. I would say that this film should be watched by all people because it gives the viewer a real sense of the depth of concern we must all exhibit for our fellow man. It is my wish that more of our leaders today had the qualities of Lincoln. A must see movie on many levels.

    Lincoln= OSCAR

Daniel Day Lewis IS Lincoln. You wil absolutely believe that. He gets the Oscar for sure this year. I had no idea about any of this going on. Audience applauded when the film ended, full house.

Don't waist your time, just read a history book.

    by Kino123

I didn't like it. Felt like I watched C-Span for two and a half hours. The acting was superb, what a cast! But, unfortunately, with all the drama of real events, drama in the movie did not happen. All factors, that are important for the film to be great, were missing: intensity, contrasts, artistry. The only really creative scene was 2 minutes long Lincoln's dream. I left the theatre emotionally untouched and bored to death.

A Movie "for the people," but not by the people or of them.

My brief is with the script. It is so dense that often I wanted to push "rewind" to hear a scene again. The performances, however, were mesmerizing, as was the cinematography, & I loved Lincoln's seemingly irrelevant, rambling anecdotes. Those made him real & quite endearing. Were they historically accurate?

    Lincoln

Great movie with impressive casting of every part! Magnificent, riveting performances by all, especially Sally Field and Daniel Day Lewis. No one was wanting and I appreciated the humorous lines and behavior in juxtaposition to the gravity of the times and the amendment they were so desperately trying to pass.

    Very strong and sad

Those times were as bad and divided politically as now and worse.

This is an excellent movie. It depicts Lincoln as dedicated to ending slavery in spite of terrible opposition on all sides. It depicts Mary Todd Lincoln as a very grief-stricken woman due to the lose of her son Willy and the difficulties of Washington, D.C.. However, she goes to the congressional chambers and keeps up with the politics of the times. They both have strengths. Lincoln himself is the strongest of all.

The cinematogrophy is great. It shows the fogginess of a winter before electicity with coal, wood and kerosene burning plus tobacco use, both smoke and spitting. The streets of D.C. are muddy.

A child could see it but it is not a child's movie. It is a deep performance.

    Lincoln

    by Joey47

Although I felt the movie was a little too long, I did enjoy it. I learned things about Lincoln that I never knew before. Some of the footage seemed to be a little dark at times and hard to see, but the actors did a great job. I do not think that this film is for children, it may be a little too boring for them unless they are a real history buff. I will see it again on DVD.

    Lincoln

Extraordinary film! A little slow, but the fastest 2 1/2 hours we ever spent. You just don't realize the time has gone so quick. Daniel Day Lewis is in incredible as Lincoln and Sally Field plays Mary with the same passion she puts into all of her films. You do feel her pain over losing her son to sickness and thought of losing another to the civil war. Daniel plays Lincoln so real you just can't imagine anyone else playing the role. This is a definite " must see" movie.
