    Beautiful!

Daniel Day Lewis was the shinning light in this movie. He will probably be nominated and win for his portrayal of Abraham Lincoln. I actually walked out with tears in my eyes for the unbelievable loss of one of our first Presidents.

The movie starts out slow but hang on as the emotional excitement and tension filled story unfold. It is a beautiful tribute to the start of the United States and the belief that all people are created equal or at least that they should all have equal rights!

    Like watching a history lesson

    by Damonw

Not sure if you want to do that fro 2.5 hours though. Great performances, DDL/Spader kills it.
    Tommy Lee? ok.
    You know how it ends.

    Must See

    by cina-ma

If you have been turned off by the seemingly "senseless" back and forth politics in the last number of years (and who hasn't been), this movie is a must see. It puts back the sense in legislative politics, with all its subtle nuances.
This story is about Lincoln's choice to support the 13th Amendment during the Civil War. It shows a moment when compromise and flexability moved the country forward, despite the rhetoric of "black and white" politics. The direction, writing, acting, sets are all suberb, but this is a very rare opportunity to see a movie that will teach you about an important moment in history and shed light on the potential for better politics today.

Will not appeal to young teens, but....

For adults, this is a great film, although for some with whom I saw it, it is an almost great film. Alsway fun to argue over whether James Spader or Tommy Lee did the better acting job. Some say Tommy Lee steals the film. But for me, Daniel Day Lewis gives a towering, near perfect performance and completely Oscar-winning. And for those who like great screenpalys, this is one of the best and for me, the best since LA Confidential. Kuhner can write. Almost certainly the Oscar winner in whichever screenpaly category it qualifies for..

    Lincoln

After months of political postering during the past current election, a 2.5 hour debate over an admendment in the House of Senates was not really what I was looking for on a Friday nite. Totally boring!!! Lincoln was an extrodinary bright human and oritor and Daniel Day-Lewis did and Oscar winning performance.

    Lincoln

What a great movie! I had tears in my eyes at the end. Wonderful depiction of the angst both the President and his wife went through. Sallie Field was great as Mrs. Lincoln. Both Daniel Day Lewis and Sally Field should get an oscar for performances. Makes you want to get the book mentioned at the end to read about the political maneuvering that went on!

    Lincoln-Wonderful

Daniel Day Lewis did a great job, he WAS Lincoln. Should be an Oscar for him. The story was well done by Spielberg as he always does. The acting made you feel as if you were there.

    Wow

    by

It has been a long time since I have gone to a movie that had the auditorium 100% filled. And it was for a good reason. The story, acting and cinematography were excellent. The star power of the movie is amazing. I enjoyed seeing some of my favorite actors play a historic person.

One of the best movies I have ever seen!

    Politics...

    by rfisher

Does the end justify the means? This movie definitely raises this this question. This movie depicts the minutia of politics very well. Even knowing the outcome, it produces angst. It is not hard to understand why presidents age so rapidly while in office. At least those with a heart!
Daniel Day Lewis channels Lincoln. What a fabulous performance! Tommy Lee Jones well... just splendid.

    Strong, unprecedented view of lawmaking

Strong and beautiful performances by a stellar cast (including supporting players) make this a riveting look at the passage of the 13th amendment. The moral questions and decisions made by the President are unimaginable, but the actions he and his allies must take will keep you glued to your chair. This film is a must for film lovers, for political junkies, and for anyone who cares about history. It is beautifully directed and written. Lead players will get Oscar nominations. Don't miss it.

    Lincoln

    by LLOOP27

The acting and setting was beyond perfect. However, the viewer needs to be way into Civil War history to fully appreciate the non - stop political rhetoric throughout the movie. It does get a little dry and boring. I did thoroughly enjoy the actors...they all were superb!

    Great!

Daniel Day Lewis has a lock on best actor. Great historical story. It's also a relief for once to see a movie that is not all about special effects and violence.

    Lost me

Ok the acting from Daniel Lewis was great but the story line wasn't pleasing to me. Also Joseph Gordon Levitt and Tommy Lee Jones both sucked in this film and I some times felt that they were just taking up space. I mean really, what was the point of Levitts character even being in there. I think saw him talk in the movie like 3 times in 3 different scenes. Lastly, the movie was way too long and boring. I was almost ready to walk out as I saw 3 people walk out in the middle of it. I was disappointed and cannot believe that the reviews are telling folks that this movie is an A+ must go see when it is on my list as one of the most worse films out there. I expected way more than this. I just think the race of people that saw this liked it because of the accomplishment that Lincoln made towards the end with making history.

    Good Movie

I really enjoyed Lincoln, but I also felt like there was a lot of story left on the table. I agree that the movie should have culminated with the passing of the 13th Amendment, but I also wanted to see the struggles that Lincoln went through during the war like the refusal of several generals to obey his direct orders and Lincoln having to find somebody to do what he asked them to do. It would have also been nice for them to better illustrate that Lincoln believed wanted slavery abolished because it tarnished America's narrative as being a true republic versus him wanting an end to slavery as a moral obligation. But overall, I really enjoyed the developing drama surrounding the 13th between the radical republicans and the democrats. Go check it out!
