Worse movie I have ever seen

It's been a long time since I wanted to walk out of a movie half way through. This is a great movie if you like shallow, boring, depressing movies that have no flow. Don't waste your money on this bad excuse for a movie.

A Clear Picture of Life at 40, with the Pleasures and ManyPains that comes with It.

Apatow does his thing again! He makes a comedy out of an introspective story about real people. If you are married and in your 40s, or even close to it, you will probably get more of a snapshot of your life than laughs. It was funny at times, but not drop dead funny. Melissa McCarthy was hilarious as always though. The good part was that Rudd and Mann give believable performances as the married couple from KNOCKED-UP that are still trying to figure themselves out in this phase of life - with kids, mortgages, careers and sex. The problems they had were things an audience could connect to.They could have cut 10 minutes off the film to move it along quicker though. Still, I enjoyed the ups and downs, and the reconciliations the characters had to go through. It may not hit the funny bone like you thought walking in, but it will make you feel something walking out. Don't miss the outtakes. Geek Soul Brother gives this film 3 out of 5 Cosmic Afros. The movie was funny because it hit so close to home but it could have used a litttle better editing it was a little long and choppy at times. But overall I gave it three out of five stars.

    Waste of Time

    by cncsmom

I was so looking forward to this movie. It had a great cast; some of my favorite actors. I went with 4 girlfriends and from the previews we thought it was going to be a light hearted comedy. Geez....about 3/4 of the way through, I started wondering to myself if there was even a plot. There was no "end" we were working towards, no conclusion or climax. When we left I found out all of my friends felt exactly the same way. It was like watching someone's day-to-day life....whatever. Not even sure this would be a good rental. It had a few funny parts but for the most part it was a complete waste of time. I'm sorry to say this too because like I said, I love Paul Ruud and Leslie Mann, as well as Albert Brooks. Oh well. Just money and time down the drain...

    Scary & hilarious

    by

I loved this film. Paul Rudd is as real & funny as ever & Leslie Mann as his fairly tolerant, kinda neurotic wife is very well done.

I laughed out loud so many time, at so many things, and for many different reasons. There were moments where I actually feared for myself & my relationship..."Is this really possible?" This movie is for adults. Older teenagers will find it funny, but not having been in a long-term relationship will mean there are things that will make no sense to them. Younger children should be left at home. The language is pretty blue & there are some really private adult things that occur that they don't need to be exposed to.

I will watch this film again...and again.

    Funny and Honest about 40s

    by pedsarq

First, let me just say that I just turned 40 and this movie is spot-on honest about the negative aspects of nearly being old. The family that's the focus of the film is referred to by one of the characters as being like a family in a bank commercial, which is to say that they're pictures perfect. The husband is played very well by Paul Rudd and the wife by the hot Leslie Mann. There are also 2 daughters that are always fighting, and the grandparents from both sides are either guilty of being absent from their lives or around and asking for money. As you might expect, sex is also up for discussion along with the purple pill. Anyway, the story move along nicely and the jokes are plentiful. I really enjoyed all the 40s jokes, but beyond that it's full of well-crafted scenes, many of which are hilarious.

    Lightweight Fare

If it weren't for Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann I would have been snoring long before I was, which was about 2/3 through this overly-long (by at least 30 minutes) film. The material was not good enough to be carried even by Rudd and Mann. Their kids, played by Judd Apatow's own kids were pretty cute and adequate. Albert Brooks, as Rudd's dad, was so annoying, I could barely stand to watch the scenes with him and Rudd. A few laughs, yes, but not memorable in any way.
And if I see Melissa McCarthy being Melissa McCarthy one more time in one more movie, I'm offing myself.
I'd give it 2 1/2 stars out of 5. Maybe 3, tops. But then I've seen so many GOOD and entertaining films lately, this can't hold up.

    Looking for more laughs

I love these characters and was hoping for more laughs from this movie. The overall tone seemed pretty somber and instead of framing turning 40 as an opportunity for more exciting life experiences it seemed depressing instead. There also seemed to be more profanity and gratuitis 40+ year old nudity than was necessary.

    Hilarious!

I thought it was going to be the same old story, but it was better than I expected. I needed a good laugh and I could definitely relate to this movie. Two thumbs up!

    This is 40

Funny in parts, but tried to tackle too much so it ended up being disjointed. Could have condensed the movie down to an hour or less. Some of the additional characters were unnecessary and simply made the movie longer. I usually like these type of movies for what they are, silly and a bit raunchy, but the storyline ended up being as much about whining as it was about turning 40. Again funny moments, but wait until pay-per-view and see it for $3 vs. $12 (NY area).

    THIS IS 40

The concept for this movie was a good one. It could have been a very nice movie for all to see. However with all of the cussing with the F word repeatedly and the C word being used to make it just another run of the mill Hollywood flop. You have children using the F word over and over and telling the parents to go F themselves with no punishment for that action. This film did nothing but promote children running their own lives and belittling adults. Don't waste your money or time on this one at the theater or DVD release.

    Dissappointed

    by

Wanted to see this movie so bad, was funny for the first 45 minutes then they fought for the rest of the flick. And to top it all off, there were a few scenes from the preview that didn't seem to make it to the full length film. I'd wait to see it on DVD it you have to.

Fabulous movie if you're in this lifestage

    by Sodium

Very hilarious and a bonding marital movie for my hubby and me. The take away for us was that we were not so different than others in our lifestage--the stereotypes were so dead on that we were a bit uncomfortable (ie. sitting on the toilet playing Scrabble on his phone). We laughed so hard and will recommend to our friends in their 40's with kids. I do wish the F-bombs and cursing would have been used less frequently. It was excessive and had no humor because of the overuse. Great life-stage movie!

too long, no real point to the movie

    by gcottj

I kept waiting for something to happen, which really it never did. Just a drawn out look at a dysfunctional family...seen enough. Would not recommend

    HYSTERICAL, I LOVED IT!!

AS THE PARENT OF TWO DAUGHTERS, WHO ARE NOW GROWN WITH CHILDREN OF THEIR OWN ON THE WAY, I FOUND THIS MOVIE TO BE PERFECT. THE WRITING WAS SPOT ON. IT WAS A BIT LONG, BUT I WILL GO AGAIN. ALSO, IT WAS CERTAINLY NOT FOR CHILDREN, AT LEAST UNDER 14. BOTTOM LINE I HAVEN'T LAUGHED THAT HARD AT A MOVIE IN YEARS.
