    Bummer

We have waited a month for this movie to come into theatres. Loved similar films - Knocked Up, etc. Unfortunately, little time spent on the humor of married life in your 40s and more time spent on their depressing and sometimes bizarre family scenarios (really a house THAT well decorated and they can't afford the house?).

    Expected so much more...disappointed.

Wait for it to come to DVD or TV

I was really looking forward to this - thought it would be funny. Looking for a fun movie for New Year's Eve. The funniest parts are in the trailer and those WERE NOT INCLUDED IN THE MOVIE! There is a lot of family dialogue that begins and ends with screaming "Shut up" at one another. By the middle of the movie had wished I had gone to see "Guilt Trip" instead.

IF YOU ARE BORING, UPTIGHT AND AWKWARD - DONT BOTHER...

HOWEVER, if you are fun loving, young at heart, can appreciate hilarious, overly dramatic moments and do not take life too seriously - this movie is for YOU (and a Judd A. fan, obvs).

In my opinion, everything Apatow touches turns to gold. I had the expectation of this being a pretty horrible movie, but am always up to give Judd a shot. Once again, not disappointed. Might be my favorite movie of his to date.

The cast is OUTSTANDING, with surprise appearances by everyone from Annie Mumolo to Megan Fox. Even Molly McCarthy is on screen, acting out one of the most hilarious scenes in any movie I've ever seen - this is clearly a tight knit group of actors on and off screen and the chemistry is evident.

I cannot say enough about this film.

Parenting 301 - Acting Out Loud

These woven parenting and marital snippets, are the stuff of real marriages. Outrageous and tender, it may make the movie seem long to someone expecting nonstop laughs. So, money, sex, parenting, getting-high, aging, in-laws, smoking, dieting, music tastes, lying, etc. If any of these things (or all) are issues in your marriage, and you can laugh about them this is a must for you.

There is a stellar cast: from the 60-year-old father of triplets, Albert Brooks; down to the youngest daughter, Iris Apatow, who gives more than she gets and displays strength at an awkward age. The teenage daughter, played by Maude Apatow, gives typical teen angst a good-girl twist, which is then torn apart by parent-taught profane anger. Melissa McCarthy's over-the-top scene is hysterical, but watching Leslie Mann and Paul Rudd first attack her son, then her, and getting away with it is so rich.

Worth a watch, but not what I expected

    by skaggej

I wasn't too thrilled about this movie. It's actually kind of depressing. While 'Knocked Up' was hilarious throughout, 'This Is 40' had only a few funny moments and I found it difficult to laugh during those because of how sad and depressing the rest of the movie is. I'd watch it again to give it a second chance, but the first impression wasn't great and it's surely related to what I expected of it after seeing 'Knocked Up.'

This movie was really awful, to be nice. I usually love Paul Rudd but this movie just did not have the story line to keep you interested. The F word seem to be the main line in the whole movie. Not worth going to see.

    Just ok...

    by

Took a long time for the plot to develop...never felt like it really ever exposed itself. There are some ridiculously funny (and ridiculous) scenes in the movie, but felt like there was too much use of the F word, just for the sake of using the F word.

All in all...I wish I would have spent the money to see something else.

    Definitely not for kids!

    Skip it

I was so disappointed with this movie that I got up and walked out. All they could talk about was the male anatomy and viagra etc and having sex on and on that I really could not even follow the plot. And you know I love the actors in this show but the plot and the language. AWFUL. I could not get out of my mind that the director's wife and children were in this movie and he subjected them to this. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY

    Dawn

I was so excited to go and see this movie because I love Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann.....
while some parts were very cute, and some parts were funny, the movie was just tooooo
loonnggggg! Over two hours was just too much.On a good note, Melissa McCarthy was her usual funny self, too bad she was only in the movie for a couple of minutes.

THIS IS THE MOST REALISTIC - This is 40, Review

I feel bad for saying so so because of the calibuer of actors/actresses in the movie. I was expecting to LMAO the entire time ! It had some points of laughter, and a Cameo that was hilarious, but you suffered through longggggg dragging parts to get to the laughter. It should of never been 2hr 14m long. If they cut out all the dragging parts, it probably would of been constantly funny.

DEFINATELY NOT FOR KIDS - Opening Scene is having sex on viagara, in the shower, and other parts definately NOT for kids. I warned ya = ) When its Rated R, with parent or not, should not be allowed into the movies. Some people brought VERY young kids.

The story and the family issues of being married, with kids and hitting those ruts, very true to life. If nothing else, you will leave the theater with tingly butt cheek, and thinking.... I really need to laugh more because your day to day routine, swallows you up.

I think that this is A RedBox Rental

    Terrible!

Narcissistic, unlikeable characters. A plot that goes nowhere. A movie that can't decide if it's a gross-out comedy or an overwrought family drama. And it lasted WAY too long! Don't waste your time and money.

Definitely need to be over 40 and married to enjoy

This was a great movie. We laughed out loud for over two hours because they truly had videotaped our marriage. I feel sorry for the newly weds and your couples in the theater as they didn't get it...they just thought is was strange. Validated us in our marriage! Rip roaring hilarious. Sequel is better than the original.

If you don't enjoy this, you don't have a real relationship with your spouse!

    Don't waste your money.

We would have walked out if we weren't there with another couple. When we got outside they said the same thing-lol.
I honestly cannot understand the good reviews. To each his own I guess.

    FUNNY, FUNNY, FUNNY!!!

This move was hilarious but, YOU REALLY HAVE TO BE OVER 40 to agree (which I am). No one over 40, married for any length of time could not relate to some part of this move. LOVE Paul Rudd and the kids are super cute.
