    Good but...

    by TxMyke

I really enjoy Paul Rudd's movies but I could do without the total disrespectful teen bit. Regardless of how funny people think it is to see a teen curse out their parents it is not humorous. There should always be respect and if teens see this, which they will, they will think its cool to do it which is sad. Respect is not being taught enough at home and to have something like this on the big screen does not help.

    I really liked this movie!

This movie is a little longer than normal, but I never checked my watch once. The story kept me engaged the entire time. It was not as slapstick funny as I thought it would be. It had a lot of funny parts with a lot of real life thrown into it as well. I thoroughly enjoyed it! My husband and I looked at each other several times throughout nodding and smiling! The cast is INCREDIBLE! The movie is relatable and believable. Be forewarned, there is a lot of language, so if that's not your thing, I don't recommend this for you. If you don't mind language though, go see this movie!

    Good, lighthearted movie

Wow...lots of negative reviews from the folks. Let's try to remember that this isn't an Oscar contender. It's a comedy about a modern family and the pitfalls of getting older. My wife and I both enjoyed it, and we would recommend it.

    Good but not great

    by nhleees

You have to get past all the bickering and fighting that absolutely fills the dialogue in this movie to see some truly funny scenes. I found it overall to be a combination of funny, yet depressing at the same time as it painted such a negative picture of this family's life. So, if you're expecting a feel-good, romantic comedy, you may be a bit disappointed.

    Train Wreak of a movie

Movie had a lot of potential, but its a huge miss. It is funny in a few places, but mostly its just sad and has no real ending, it just stops. Terrible writer.

    Very Disappointed

Talk about depressing. This slow moving dramady had me so tense and depressed that I wanted to walk out. The laughs were few and far between, and the main charactor had nothing but bad luck. Several people walked out about 30 min into the flick.

This movie was FRUSTRATING to watch, to say the least.

Rent it for a buck when it comes out on DVD if you're really curious. But, let me tell you, you'll want your money back.

    SPOILER ALERT>>>>

Why the heck made Judd Apatow think that we'd want to see a movie where the main charactor looses his house and business, becomes totally bankrupt at his 40th birthday party, has to sell his home, uproot his family, AND, on top of everything else, finds out he has a 3rd child on the way?

    and another spoiler alert>>>>>>

I had no sympathy for the Paul Rudd charactor. Were we supposed to? On top of everything else he was the main cause of everything that went wrong,

    Depressing and Sad

    by tallmom

This movie was a real bummer. I can't believe I paid $10 to see a movie based on mine and my friends' lives. If I wanted that, I wouldn't bother going to the movies. Yes, I get it, it is based on real people with real problems and I'm sure there are people out there dealing with these types of issues, but these characters and their whining and complaining and putting each other down was too much to endure for 2 plus hours. The kids' characters were funnier than the adults. Seeing kids like that in a realistic light was refreshing because 13 year olds are obnoxious and 8 year olds are innocent and sweet. But these adults with their ranting and raving just got old and tiresome. Albert Brooks was funny but even his character got old after awhile. There were some funny moments where I chuckled out loud, but they were too few to sway me into liking this film. Sorry Apatow, Freaks and Geeks was your shining achievement.

    Not so Funny

    by LJJIII

If your insecure and miserable at or over 40 and you want to be wallow in it, go see this. If not get over it and enjoy life. Had a few funny moments the rest was a waste.

    Don't waste your time.

    by

This movie felt like it would never end. Firstly, the plot had far too many sub-stories, many of which could have been a base for their own film (albeit a terrible one.) These all mashed together made for a very busy as quick movie, but one that went on forever. The comedy consisted of cheap one liners, many of which had no backing in context, or in the wider plot itself. The funniest moment of the entire film came from a scene played during the credits that was four actors laughing and ad libbing, where after a short while, the crew joins in the laughter. It seemed as though new characters kept appearing which caused a bit of dread within the group I went with, because every new character meant at least 20 more minutes of movie to sit through. The editing itself was sub-par as well. There were numerous incidents where lighting and skin color in particular seemed to suddenly change, and scenes would abruptly end and begin. A few plot wholes here and there did not help the film either.

    Definitely a GO!

First of all, I'm not exactly sure why everyone who says no is complaining about a lack of a plot! It wasn't a crime thriller or drama people. The movie was obviously created to show what a married couple's life at 40 is really like! Honestly, Apatow delivered once again! Yes it was very long and I can see how it could have been shortened a little however, the relationship of the actors felt very real!!! If you're truly a movie lover then this movie is for you, if you're looking for some sort of twist or dramatic plot then don't waste your time or others. Judd Apatow showed his creative genius yet again!!!

    Everyone Can Relate

    by Nutt32

This movie was great because everyone can relate to one of the characters in the movie. The problems the married couple encounters make you say "yeah I know how that is". This movie was a feel good and Paul Rudd did an excellent job as always. This is a movie I could see with my mom or dad and both of them could get it and have a good laugh. Wether your married or not you can relate to the couple in this film if you have ever been in a relationship. This film helps you laugh at yourself and how silly we all can be when in relationships. If you want to see a movie that makes you laugh and lets you know that relationships are a little crazy and its just not you go see this film.

    OMG! So funny!

    by

I LOL'd :) A lot of the time with funny movies it's like they show all the funny parts in the trailers, and then you get in there and it's so disappointing, but that wasn't the case! This movie was awesome!

    This is 40

When I saw the movie was over 2 hours I thought "Oh No", but the movie was funny, fast paced, you could identify with the different characters because we all have family and memories that were portrayed in the story. I would see it again and very seldom do I watch movies twice.

I want my 3 hours back

If like most of us you have seen the trailers then you have seen the best parts of the movie. The constant arguing trying to be funny is painful. When you watch Jerry Springer you feel better about your own life. Someone else's life sucks more than yours. This is one of those kinds of movies. Save your hard earned money...
