    Fun!

    by PinkyML

Need to cool the F bomb and the C word! Otherwise I had a great time - and laughed all the way through it. Paul Rudd continues to be a highlight in all his films. Love the twinkle in his eyes! Leslie Mann gives a believable performance - she's having a breakdown over turning 40. Wish there had been more of Melissa McCarhty. What a great comedic talent. Don't see this if you have a problem with crude. Do go if you need a laugh. I got my money's worth.

    Angry People

It is always so heartwarming to see a movie that makes family life seem like a nightmare. Almost constant foul language and a very angry, unhappy, and unlikable group of people summarizes this movie. Even the kids are foul-mouthed and unlikable. Oh yeah. . .and one or two funny parts. Wait for this to come on video. . .because there is no way this will end up on network TV.

Worth a watch, but not what I expected

    by skaggej

I wasn't too thrilled about this movie. It's actually kind of depressing. While 'Knocked Up' was hilarious throughout, 'This Is 40' had only a few funny moments and I found it difficult to laugh during those because of how sad and depressing the rest of the movie is. I'd watch it again to give it a second chance, but the first impression wasn't great and it's surely related to what I expected of it after seeing 'Knocked Up.'

The sequel that's not exactly a sequel

This is 40 is actually a pretty good movie. Following the secondary couple from Knocked Up years later when both of them are turning 40, it goes through about a week of their life during the time of their 40th birthdays. It's pretty good, lots of hilarious moments with the same kind of humor that was in Knocked Up. I wouldn't suggest it for younger kids unless your ok with them watching that kind of stuff (the reason it's rated R), but it's definitely worth watching if you want a good comedy. It may be early in the year, but I'm going out on a limb by saying this will be one of the best comedies of the year for sure. I would definitely suggest watching this movie at some point in time.

    Left the theatre early!

I went to see what I thought was going to be another winning Apatow ensemble comedy & instead left the movie early because it was making me totally depressed! There were fleeting moments of funny, but overall the film was just bleak & depressing. I have a 9 month old baby and this was mine & my husbands first official date night - total let down! We should have gone out for cocktails!

    this is 40

slow start. had some funny moments. the trailers and the outakes at the ending credits that we saw were the best part of the movie.
the leads in the movie were good. the kids were funny, specially the older daughter. melissa macarthy was hilarious. more thought provoking about middle age than funny.

Fabulous movie if you're in this lifestage

    by Sodium

Very hilarious and a bonding marital movie for my hubby and me. The take away for us was that we were not so different than others in our lifestage--the stereotypes were so dead on that we were a bit uncomfortable (ie. sitting on the toilet playing Scrabble on his phone). We laughed so hard and will recommend to our friends in their 40's with kids. I do wish the F-bombs and cursing would have been used less frequently. It was excessive and had no humor because of the overuse. Great life-stage movie!

    Total disappointment

I have never reviewed a movie on this site, but had to do so in this case. The miserable whining made this movie unbearable. At 41, I can easily say there wasn't one scene in this movie that I could relate to, and I loved Knocked Up! Don't waste your $$. Absolutely terrible.

    Mixed feelings...

Another good comedy from Director Judd Apatow. Parts of the story are hilarious while others seemed to flaunt the manic/depressive nature of the main characters. There were some likable characters, but all seemed flawed in serious ways.

Most films begin with conflict and a building storyline while this one seemed to flip from one conflict to another in rapid succession. In Apatow's defense, life treats us the same way.

Perhaps the reason I had mixed feelings is because this film was too real for me and my wife. I would recommend that anyone who sees this leave the kids at home due to the multiple profane words used throughout the film. This is 40 is worth a look for the 40-plus crowd.

    This is 40 hours long

Or at least it feels that way because of how long, painful, and awkward it is. Some good lines are interspersed with seemingly endless pain. Worse, the movie makes little logical sense and shows no progression. Rather, at times they seem to decide to act normally, leading to happiness, and at others they do and say obviously insane and counterproductive things that make them miserable. But there's no rhyme or reason as to why and when they do each. Awful plot.

    This is 40

The movie was very good. A couple of not so real scenes, but overall felt like real life as a married man. It was funny and at the same time had some very good messages.

    Awesome!

I had a blast, it is full of funny things but not only that because i also got to learn and understand many aspects of what having a marriage and a family is about.
This movie can be a positive and true life lesson for many people.

    Very funny

    by Zimmys

I and people around me were laughing all the time. I had at least 30-40 good laughs. Great comedy. After 2 hours, I wanted more. It is great movie for couples 30-45 years old.

    Worth Seeing

It was funny and I need a good laugh - but also has a serious edge which I also enjoyed. Stay for the end credits for an extra chuckle.
