Some Funny Moments But Too Contrived For Me.

At least they actually used the child talent here. Had they not, this one would have been much worse. Still, this play is hardly the family comedic romp they're selling in the trailers. Is it a bad film? No. Is it worth the price of a movie seat today? That's a judgment call best left to the one that's paying. Given that particular choice again, knowing what I know now, I'd have waited for the DVD, cable or stream.

    a must see

we laughed throughout the movie, we enjoyed it, a bit long so make plenty of time with all the previews and stuff, but overall, enjoyed the movie and all of the adult type jokes, not a movie to take your kids to

    So Stinkin Funny

    by

What sad is that this movie is my marriage. The F word was very much used which I would prefer that it wasnt. This is not a movie for children AT ALL, its more geared for married adults.

    Fun!

    by PinkyML

Need to cool the F bomb and the C word! Otherwise I had a great time - and laughed all the way through it. Paul Rudd continues to be a highlight in all his films. Love the twinkle in his eyes! Leslie Mann gives a believable performance - she's having a breakdown over turning 40. Wish there had been more of Melissa McCarhty. What a great comedic talent. Don't see this if you have a problem with crude. Do go if you need a laugh. I got my money's worth.

This is a Very Fine Film!

    by jzactor

This film surprised me a great deal. I expected it to be funnybut it was even funnier than I expected (and make sure you wait thru the credits to laugh even more). The stroy is very simple about a couple experiencing the effects of aging a bit as they turn 40. What I was amazed at is how poignant the film is and how it weaves a few different plot lines thru it. The stars of the film do very well. The costars are great, too, in particular John Lithgow and Albert Brooks. They bring solid, good character acting with them while also being poignant and very effective at being 2 men who are going thru a lot, and their regret is deep in each case and it manifests itself in every moment in subtle ways. So this is a really fine film that is as hilarious as it is deeply felt and acted, while never falling to sentimentalism. The laughs are many and deep and so are te tears. The young actors who are real family memebers of Judd Apatow are brilliantly real and effective. Go enjoy and be touched!

    Train Wreak of a movie

Movie had a lot of potential, but its a huge miss. It is funny in a few places, but mostly its just sad and has no real ending, it just stops. Terrible writer.

    Awful bore

Not funny. Walked out after what seemed an eternity. I can't believe intelligent? people with money sat down and created this disaster. Hollywood steals money at the box office. What kind pf parents put their children in a movie like this, it was the worst miserable mess.

    Funny For 40somethings!

    by

First, it was date night for my wife and I.
Second, she just turned 40 last year.
Third, we have 2 girls who fight ALL the time.
Fourth, my wife hates my music.
    Fifth, I love LOST.

Needless to say, I was laughing so hard in the first 5 minutes I almost pee'd my pants. Maybe it was because we fit the "target" audience and find so many things "relatable", but I felt the director Judd Apatow really got it right. Sure there were some "unrealistic" moments, but overall, great cast, hilarious moments...great cameo by Melissa McCarthy! Be sure to stay for after the initial credits.

I only gave it a "Go" because I'm not sure if you are under 40, if you would get it.

    Just ok...

    by

Took a long time for the plot to develop...never felt like it really ever exposed itself. There are some ridiculously funny (and ridiculous) scenes in the movie, but felt like there was too much use of the F word, just for the sake of using the F word.

All in all...I wish I would have spent the money to see something else.

    Definitely not for kids!

    Just Awful!

    by spremax

This is only the second movie I have ever walked out of. The folks in front of me left also but much earlier on. I am usually game for just about anything as long as it is well done but this was a pathetic attempt at comedy and totally not funny. There was also one scene in there that has ruined it for me and Paul Rudd. I will never be able to watch him again without thinking of it. Oh well, there's always Johnny Depp to fall back on.

    Hilarious

    by

It may be crude but I haven't laughed that hard at a movie in a long while. It was worth seeing, I want to buy it the second it's available. So good!

    Dissappointed

    by

Wanted to see this movie so bad, was funny for the first 45 minutes then they fought for the rest of the flick. And to top it all off, there were a few scenes from the preview that didn't seem to make it to the full length film. I'd wait to see it on DVD it you have to.

Do people really talk that way?

    by LT_MN

Lots of potential but it was hard to watch because of all the swearing ... Especially disturbing to see the kids swearing at the parents and the complete disrespect with which they all treated each other. If this is even a little but true, it's not hard to see why our kids from this environment would be messed up.

    Started funny at least

    by

The trailers made this movie out to be like it would be a feel good comedy. To me, it wasn't like that at all. The first 30-60 minutes were funny, but after that, my laughs were few and far between. There was a ton of arguing and conflict with the characters and it all got kind of over the top. It got kind of depressing to watch. If you can relate to the characters' lives, I can see how this would be an entertaining movie, but I walked in expecting a funny movie and walked out in a down mood.
