    THIS IS 40

The concept for this movie was a good one. It could have been a very nice movie for all to see. However with all of the cussing with the F word repeatedly and the C word being used to make it just another run of the mill Hollywood flop. You have children using the F word over and over and telling the parents to go F themselves with no punishment for that action. This film did nothing but promote children running their own lives and belittling adults. Don't waste your money or time on this one at the theater or DVD release.

All 40ish Married Couples Should See This Movie!

My wife and I laughed at and connected with this movie. Shows the beauty of marriage - all the highs, lows, fears, foibles and each emotion in between. The acting is good, the setups realistic, and the laughs spaced well. I never felt the movie dragged - good flow for over two hours. I believe we will watch this movie every time we are having a rough patch :)

A great comedy film of the year! :)

Unlike The Hangover and other sillier comedies, This one has heart to it, and a daily life family story. This is what makes the movie work. It's set into reality of what happens to a lot some families around the world. Being always angry and always fighting, sometimes you just got to be thankful in the end for what you have and love you family no matter what happens in life. I rarely review a movie, but this one is worth typing about. My girlfriend and I absolutely loved it! Were definitely hoping for a sequel! Being this one is of Knocked Up. It's really interesting and cool how the director Judd Apatow of it directed his own wife and two daughters to act in the film. I applaud them for coming back and making a good "sort of a sequel" as they say in the trailer! haha Go see it! :)

Hilarious for a select group of people.

    by

My wife and I laughed our butts off at the funny parts, and felt tension during the tense parts. We recommend this movie for all married couples with children between the ages of 30 - 40, but your children would probably not find the humor in it, nor identify with the characters. I can see from other reviews and reactions from friends who did not enjoy this movie that age and child-status are a definite factor in regard to seeing and knowing the full humor in this film. I could identify with the characters, as could my wife because the characters were not flawless, although at times you'd think they are; and they weren't overly flawed for the purpose of creating unnecessary plot points and useless jokes. The characters suffered a few nuances in life, that I am thankful to not identify with, but the humor at those moments was there for me anyway. Judd Apatow's lighting has stuck again.

    Terrible!

Narcissistic, unlikeable characters. A plot that goes nowhere. A movie that can't decide if it's a gross-out comedy or an overwrought family drama. And it lasted WAY too long! Don't waste your time and money.

    I liked it

    by

I have read many reviews and they have been very mixed, but I have to say I liked it. I am 42 now and could relate to a lot of it. I thought it was consistently funny throughout the whole 2 hours. I am also a huge Paul Rudd fan so that helped.

    Blipblop2

The movie was funny because it hit so close to home but it could have used a litttle better editing it was a little long and choppy at times. But overall I gave it three out of five stars.

Not 40 but I liked it

Coming into this film I knew what sort of comedy and film to expect, so as the movies unfolded I was sucked into a perfectly created family that Judd Apatow had created. The chemistry between all of the characters, especially Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann, is very sincere and genuine. They truly feel as if though they were married and that was their family. The onscreen chemistry just makes the entire movie and drama that takes place seem very real, and at times find oneself believing that they are a real family. That is the reason I loved the film so much, it was very believable. Not only that but the movie was very funny throughout the film. It was very entertaining and amusing watching a family have problems. The fact that they are presented as a normal American family makes relating to them very easy. I am only 21 but the reactions and behaviors of both Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann both seem like something someone at 40 could possibly do. Overall great film.

Fabulous movie if you're in this lifestage

    by Sodium

Very hilarious and a bonding marital movie for my hubby and me. The take away for us was that we were not so different than others in our lifestage--the stereotypes were so dead on that we were a bit uncomfortable (ie. sitting on the toilet playing Scrabble on his phone). We laughed so hard and will recommend to our friends in their 40's with kids. I do wish the F-bombs and cursing would have been used less frequently. It was excessive and had no humor because of the overuse. Great life-stage movie!

    Great Movie!!!

    by KG81

This was so funny, the entire theatre was cracking up so loud, that I think I missed a few lines here and there. I would say it is definitely worth seeing in the theatre. I know it's no action film, but if you need a good laugh, this is the movie for you! I know Judd Apatow films speak to women mostly, but if you are married with kids, or thinking about having kids, whether you are a guy or a girl, I think you'll like it.

    Very Relatable

While this movie may not be enjoyable for single 20 somethings, if you are married with kids you'll love this movie. The script and acting were spot on.

    Started funny at least

    by

The trailers made this movie out to be like it would be a feel good comedy. To me, it wasn't like that at all. The first 30-60 minutes were funny, but after that, my laughs were few and far between. There was a ton of arguing and conflict with the characters and it all got kind of over the top. It got kind of depressing to watch. If you can relate to the characters' lives, I can see how this would be an entertaining movie, but I walked in expecting a funny movie and walked out in a down mood.

WALK OUT!!!! OR BETTER YET SAVE YOUR MONEY

    by

There are a few movies that deserve to be walked out on and THIS IS 40 is one of those movies, better yet save your money the funny parts are what they show you on the trailer the rest of the movie is just two people turning 40 yelling at each other because their life did not turned out what they wanted to be blah blah blah stupid ******* movie even the fact that the main character Leslie Mann walks around half naked through some of the movie coupled with the fact that Megan Fox is in a bikini most of the movie cannot save this worthless piece of film

    Definitely a GO!

First of all, I'm not exactly sure why everyone who says no is complaining about a lack of a plot! It wasn't a crime thriller or drama people. The movie was obviously created to show what a married couple's life at 40 is really like! Honestly, Apatow delivered once again! Yes it was very long and I can see how it could have been shortened a little however, the relationship of the actors felt very real!!! If you're truly a movie lover then this movie is for you, if you're looking for some sort of twist or dramatic plot then don't waste your time or others. Judd Apatow showed his creative genius yet again!!!

Could've ended after 90 minutes and they would've covered it all

This was a cute movie, definitely rings true to many couples who after a few years get stuck in a rut and need to find their chemistry again. However, I was fidgeting by the end of the movie. I couldn't wait for it to wrap up. Way too long for the plot. Melissa McCarthy is a freaking riot and be sure to stay for her outtake after the credits...even though you'll probably want to bolt as soon as they start :-)
