The movie wasn't bad, however, there were scenes in the trailer that drew me to the movie, but were different in the actual movie (not as funny). Also, there were waaaaay too many unnecessary "F" and "D" words, and waaay more chaos than I feel it warranted. It was also hard to relate to the marriage of the main characters because there was not much background revealed through memory scenes to give us a strong sense of their love. But in the end, it was an overall entertaining movie.

    Oh. My. God.

Sold as a comedy, but it is a facade. The funniest parts were in the trailer. Nothing like Knocked Up; don't be fooled by the leads. Humor is beyond wry and I tend to like dry humor. The plot was disconnected and uneventful. Whole theater hated it. Two and a half hours of misery. Be prepared for a nap!

Terrible!! I wish I would have walked out of the theatre in the first 15 minutes... kept thinking it was going to get better.. NOT! The language was awful..my friend and I walked out of the theatre more stressed out than when we walked in... Don't waste your money.

We laughed out loud. It's a funny look at the stage in life that we're all in. If you're in your 40's and married with kids, you must see it. You'll laugh your sides off!

    Dark

This movie, for me, was not the holiday comedy that I envisioned, but a dark and troubling film with some light moments. A real surprise for me, and not what I had in mind. All the actors played their roles well, and it was believable and true to life. But I wanted escapism, nit drama. My bad, should have chosen Jack Reacher.

Maybe not for everyone, but we loved it.

In our early 50's, we can easily look back on the times this movies portrays and laugh. And Laugh and laugh.

Melissa McCarthy was hilarious (Stay for the outtakes).

This is Total Garbage -- Walked Out

    by MikeBl

I can't remember the last time that we walked out of a movie halfway through. And we were not the only ones. Half the audience left in total disgust. There is nothing good whatsoever to say about this movie. The humor wasn't even sophomoric. Just moronic. Avoid at all costs. Really.

    Great Movie!!!

    by KG81

This was so funny, the entire theatre was cracking up so loud, that I think I missed a few lines here and there. I would say it is definitely worth seeing in the theatre. I know it's no action film, but if you need a good laugh, this is the movie for you! I know Judd Apatow films speak to women mostly, but if you are married with kids, or thinking about having kids, whether you are a guy or a girl, I think you'll like it.

    Don't get rooked in!

I have never before seen a trailer so misrepresent a film. I thought I was going to watch another Apatow comedy, but instead I got Kramer vs Kramer! That was the most depressing film I've seen in years. I'm actually angry I sat through the whole thing.

    Waste of Time

    by cncsmom

I was so looking forward to this movie. It had a great cast; some of my favorite actors. I went with 4 girlfriends and from the previews we thought it was going to be a light hearted comedy. Geez....about 3/4 of the way through, I started wondering to myself if there was even a plot. There was no "end" we were working towards, no conclusion or climax. When we left I found out all of my friends felt exactly the same way. It was like watching someone's day-to-day life....whatever. Not even sure this would be a good rental. It had a few funny parts but for the most part it was a complete waste of time. I'm sorry to say this too because like I said, I love Paul Ruud and Leslie Mann, as well as Albert Brooks. Oh well. Just money and time down the drain...

slow start. had some funny moments. the trailers and the outakes at the ending credits that we saw were the best part of the movie.
the leads in the movie were good. the kids were funny, specially the older daughter. melissa macarthy was hilarious. more thought provoking about middle age than funny.

Dug to the bottom, but no pony.

    by olewso

Had the basis of a good story, but buried it under a blizzard of unnecessary profanity. Several people walked out. I stayed, hoping that under all that crap would be a pony, but no, just crap.

    Definitely a GO!

First of all, I'm not exactly sure why everyone who says no is complaining about a lack of a plot! It wasn't a crime thriller or drama people. The movie was obviously created to show what a married couple's life at 40 is really like! Honestly, Apatow delivered once again! Yes it was very long and I can see how it could have been shortened a little however, the relationship of the actors felt very real!!! If you're truly a movie lover then this movie is for you, if you're looking for some sort of twist or dramatic plot then don't waste your time or others. Judd Apatow showed his creative genius yet again!!!

This is 40 is a no go

    by jr623

I was disappointed. I expected more laughs. I felt like I was in the middle of another couples argument for 2 hours. Saving grace was Melissa McCarthy, she was a hilarious! If you go- stay for the out takes. I laughed harder here than the entire movie.
