Maybe not for everyone, but we loved it.

In our early 50's, we can easily look back on the times this movies portrays and laugh. And Laugh and laugh.

Melissa McCarthy was hilarious (Stay for the outtakes).

    this is not my 40

    by

I took my wife to see this movie after a lunch date. As a 43 year old married man with 3 kids, I could relate to some parts of this movie. My wife, younger than myself, also related to some of the stresses the characters had. But 2+ hours long. It had me checking the clock on my phone 1 1/2 hours in to it. Thank GOD for the out takes running with the final credits, they put a smile on my face while we exited the theater.

    Terrible!

I signed up for this just so that I could state my opinion of this movie. Terrible, not funny, in my opinion unecessarily vulgar! Walked out in the middle of it. I'm not that far past 40, and I have probably only walked out of one or two other movies in my life!

    Mixed feelings...

Another good comedy from Director Judd Apatow. Parts of the story are hilarious while others seemed to flaunt the manic/depressive nature of the main characters. There were some likable characters, but all seemed flawed in serious ways.

Most films begin with conflict and a building storyline while this one seemed to flip from one conflict to another in rapid succession. In Apatow's defense, life treats us the same way.

Perhaps the reason I had mixed feelings is because this film was too real for me and my wife. I would recommend that anyone who sees this leave the kids at home due to the multiple profane words used throughout the film. This is 40 is worth a look for the 40-plus crowd.

This movie was hilarious! We really enjoyed it. The writing was brilliant! Definitely not a kids movie, as the language was not appropriate for little ones. Make sure you stay for the out takes, I was laughing so hard I was crying!

    Started funny at least

    by

The trailers made this movie out to be like it would be a feel good comedy. To me, it wasn't like that at all. The first 30-60 minutes were funny, but after that, my laughs were few and far between. There was a ton of arguing and conflict with the characters and it all got kind of over the top. It got kind of depressing to watch. If you can relate to the characters' lives, I can see how this would be an entertaining movie, but I walked in expecting a funny movie and walked out in a down mood.

    So-So

I enjoyed the movie but the language was too much and especially surprised that they had the oldest child using it. Nudity a little but didn't really add anything to it....definitely for 17 and over....

    A bit of a mess

This film seemed very long while I was sitting through it. Some good performances, especially Leslie Mann's, but the film seemed very incoherent. I think Apatow should have refined the plot. There were some things that weren't really tied up - for example, a Lennon drawing seems like it's going to be important to the plot, then is never mentioned again. I'm happy seeing a good comedy-drama, but some of the drama of this film was just borderline depressing.

This is Total Garbage -- Walked Out

    by MikeBl

I can't remember the last time that we walked out of a movie halfway through. And we were not the only ones. Half the audience left in total disgust. There is nothing good whatsoever to say about this movie. The humor wasn't even sophomoric. Just moronic. Avoid at all costs. Really.

    Good, lighthearted movie

Wow...lots of negative reviews from the folks. Let's try to remember that this isn't an Oscar contender. It's a comedy about a modern family and the pitfalls of getting older. My wife and I both enjoyed it, and we would recommend it.

As usual Hollywood can take a movie that could have been cute and turn it into a piece of trash. Crude scenes, children using profanity and showing total disrespect for parents, and parents showing total self-indulgence and using profanity toward their toward their own children as well as other peoples' childrwn (and we wonder why our children/grandchildren are so crude and disrespectful). Wished I'd saved my money.

    Quite Entertaining Retread

The "This is your life, get over it," adult coming of age concept is nothing new, but Judd Apatow manages to create enough sizzle that the concept feels fresh. That Apatow's wife and two children star in the movie, along with Paul Rudd, is an interesting side note. All deliver excellent performances, especially his two daughters, the youngest being an absolute comedic natural; who could not love this little girl, she's a hoot. Lots of laughs and a solid message on the importance of family and properly loving and respecting those that matter most in your life, make for an excellent night at the movies.

    VERY disappointed

My boyfriend and I were very excited to see this movie and were so let down. It was not at all what we expected! We were waiting for a fun light hearted romantic comedy and all it was was parents and kids fighting and yelling the whole time. The story was long and drawn out and in the end there was no resolution. If you really want to see it....wait for dvd....dont waste your money.... :-(
