Definitely funny parts, but got a bit long (and slow)

Like virtually any other Apatow movie you've seen before, there are plenty of funny moments that will keep you laughing. But this was not his best work for a few reasons:

    - It got long. Very long for this type of movie (2:14!). We both found ourselves looking at our watches frequently over the last 45 minutes.
    - The main characters became immensely dislikeable about halfway into the movie, to the point where you didn't really care if they worked things out.
    - There were plenty of funny parts, but they started to get spread further and further between in the 2nd half of the movie, which probably contributed to the first point, above.

    Loved it!

Our group of 5 people really enjoyed - great performances by all - and very relatable. Go see it if you're close to or over 40 - you'll identify.

Hilarious, and a must-see if you're the right demographic.

First, I'm a 40-something with 3 kids, and saw this with similar friends. Second, we saw it at Cinnebarre in Montlake Terrace, which serves food and beer, and my wife and I were starting our 2nd pitcher by the time the movie started. Given that, the movie was filled with laugh-out-loud moments. It's not much of a story. It's more a series of funny circumstances strung together. Which, as a 40+ year old with 3 kids, is pretty much what life seems to be like. Though thankfully my life isn't quite as funny. If you're not in your late 30's/early 40's, and you don't have kids, I'm not sure if this is the movie for you. If you like clean language are easily offended, this movie is definitely not for you. But if you are the right age, familiar with juggling jobs, parenting, and life, and can laugh at long rants heavily punctuated by F-bombs and bodily function references, then this is a definite must-see.

Not comedy, dysfunctional family dramady that rambles

This movie was just not funny with the exception of a few scenes that were really disjointed skits thrown into the movie. Were all the cast members great? Yes, but the unreality of a soon to be bankrupt couple that lives the lifestyle Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann do was distracting. Albert Brooks and his "jewiness" did not fit into their waspy lifestyle at all and his borrowing money from his kids was absurd. There was an opportunity to wrap this movie up with some happy vibes with some subplot surrounding a valuable John Lennon drawing that was introduced....and then forgotten about.
I felt that there was a series of arguments and revelations that somehow had to be strung together by a script and that's what they did.
    Cannot recommend this movie.

    Hilarious!!!!

This movie was great. Lots of language if you have kids that you screen that from, but very funny. Especially for couples either dating or married.

    by

It was way better than I expected, and funnier, too! You have to stay through the credits, the out takes we're priceless, and maybe the funniest part!

    Horrible

    by

I am a huge movie fan, and it doesn't take much for me to enjoy a film . A little plot, an interesting character and I'm good to go...
Honestly, I don't know any 40 year olds who behave this way. The sex references must have occurred every five minutes only separated by the "***&^" every other word dialog. That wouldn't be so bad if it was funny, but it was all so immature. We wanted to get out of there, but we stuck around for two reasons: 1. Nothing else was playing at that time 2. We assumed that at least the problems would be resolved in the end. Big assumption. Not one problem fixed. Not one of the relationships is improved in any way. None of their life problems gets worked out. None of their money/business issues get resolved. In the end they decide that it's easier to stay like they were before. Horrible!!!

    So So Bad....

I rarely write a review but I had to warn you about this movie. It's really bad. The story is senseless and the dialogue shallow and juvenile. The characters are so neurotic it's painful to watch them. The only character that was real is Sadie, the older daughter. Everyone else is just a nut case.

    Many Many Laughs

    by schwanz

This is a must see for someone who is about to enter this time in their life or who has already been there. The warmess and honesty between the couple is priceless and will be very entertaining for anyone who has been in a long term relationswhip. Paul Rudd's scene of him looking in the mirror (you all know the scene) will be forever planted in my brain. LOL!

    Very Real, Very Enjoyable

    by

I feel this is one of Judd Apatow's best films to date. Although it is not what you come to normally expect from him (a comedy); it is well written, heartfelt, and filled with a cast of characters that I found relatable.

This movie was hilarious! We really enjoyed it. The writing was brilliant! Definitely not a kids movie, as the language was not appropriate for little ones. Make sure you stay for the out takes, I was laughing so hard I was crying!

    Very funny

    by Zimmys

I and people around me were laughing all the time. I had at least 30-40 good laughs. Great comedy. After 2 hours, I wanted more. It is great movie for couples 30-45 years old.

This is Not 40 for Me

    by

Mildly entertaining in some parts, but supremely annoying in others. Paul Rudd plays the mambie pambie son to a loser mooch of a dad. Leslie Mann is barely likable, and together, she and Rudd are dishonest with each other, which makes for a really unappealing plot. The daughters in the movie provide many of the funniest moments, but the older one winds up making me want to smack her smart mouth.

The movie was very good. A couple of not so real scenes, but overall felt like real life as a married man. It was funny and at the same time had some very good messages.
