    I enjoyed the movie but the language was too much and especially surprised that they had the oldest child using it. Nudity a little but didn't really add anything to it....definitely for 17 and over....

    Way funny!

    Great movie! Lots of true to life scenes, situations we all may find ourselves in at times. Plenty of humor to make the most awkward times bearable! Definitely worth seeing! Loved all the characters, especially the children!

    Where was the plot?

    I've been reading reviews that say that you need to be 40, married, and with kids to appreciate this movie. If that is the case, COUNT ME OUT! If I wanted to watch a family complain about work, family, and getting older I would have just visited my own family. I honestly wanted to leave half way through the movie, but kept hoping that the plot line would pick up at some point. It didn't. And I understand that this was a "family production", and that the child actors are their real children. But they can't act. The teenager was completely annoying and just tried to yell like he acting mom the entire time. I would not see this movie again. Bummer.

    More like "This is awesome!"

    This is a comedy based on real life actual situations, so don't go expecting to just laugh at people falling down and not think at all. Having said that, you will laugh! I'm still a ways off from 40 (27) and I thought this movie was hilarious and real.

    VERY disappointed

    My boyfriend and I were very excited to see this movie and were so let down. It was not at all what we expected! We were waiting for a fun light hearted romantic comedy and all it was was parents and kids fighting and yelling the whole time. The story was long and drawn out and in the end there was no resolution. If you really want to see it....wait for dvd....dont waste your money.... :-(

    previews were funnier than this movie... sadly disappointed--- movie dragged much like "eat love pray" we watched the movie for a little bit took a nap and it was still playing!

    Not even a "Rental"

    I didn't have high hopes for this but got talked into seeing it. I expected a mildly witty, somewhat entertaining experience; the sort that would at least make time pass freely. Instead I was met with a terribly written, time-stopping disaster of a movie. It was truly endless, every time I thought it might end it got up and kept going. The little humor it had was designed for the least common denominator of adult audience. While the acting might be considered passable at best, it was the story that was really awful. I lacked feeling for all of the characters in the movie - they were the type of people you just don't care about. You don't want to root for them or against them, they're just plain boring and lackluster.

    Honestly, this isn't even a rental - it's worth skipping altogether.

    I'm sure it was a funny movie for most folks, but if you are a parent of a young teen, trying to raise her the respect herself and others, maybe this is not the best movie to take her to... That was my mistake, no one elses... I didn't check it out before we went. This is not a family friendly film... Just FYI...

    Not so Funny

    If your insecure and miserable at or over 40 and you want to be wallow in it, go see this. If not get over it and enjoy life. Had a few funny moments the rest was a waste.

    We laughed out loud. It's a funny look at the stage in life that we're all in. If you're in your 40's and married with kids, you must see it. You'll laugh your sides off!

    Do people really talk that way?

    Lots of potential but it was hard to watch because of all the swearing ... Especially disturbing to see the kids swearing at the parents and the complete disrespect with which they all treated each other. If this is even a little but true, it's not hard to see why our kids from this environment would be messed up.

    This is 40

    This movie was very well done... Great acting by all characters. BUT...The F-Bomb was very close to being way over used. My wife and I, several times, were really enjoying the movie and then there would be a barage of F-Bombs in a scene that would ruin the moment for us. As we were leaving the theater, we over heard about five people make the same comment.

    Definitely funny parts, but got a bit long (and slow)

    Like virtually any other Apatow movie you've seen before, there are plenty of funny moments that will keep you laughing. But this was not his best work for a few reasons:

    - It got long. Very long for this type of movie (2:14!). We both found ourselves looking at our watches frequently over the last 45 minutes.
    - The main characters became immensely dislikeable about halfway into the movie, to the point where you didn't really care if they worked things out.
    - There were plenty of funny parts, but they started to get spread further and further between in the 2nd half of the movie, which probably contributed to the first point, above.

    Not so much comedy, lots of drama! Too much drama. Too much cursing and I curse like a sailor. Loved the actors but Lord, did I want to choke them most of the time.....

    OH NO

    I was really excited to see this movie, but was taken back by the lack of plot. There was absolutely NO point to this movie, so take my advice and do not waste your money. Of course I did laugh more than once, but not enough to make it worth while. ALSO if you have any interest in ever watching the show LOST..DO NOT SEE THIS MOVIE.., I was astonished that they RUINED the ENTIRE tv show...glad I had already finished the series, but seriously do not waste your time or money on this terrible movie.
