When I saw the movie was over 2 hours I thought "Oh No", but the movie was funny, fast paced, you could identify with the different characters because we all have family and memories that were portrayed in the story. I would see it again and very seldom do I watch movies twice.

    OH NO

I was really excited to see this movie, but was taken back by the lack of plot. There was absolutely NO point to this movie, so take my advice and do not waste your money. Of course I did laugh more than once, but not enough to make it worth while. ALSO if you have any interest in ever watching the show LOST..DO NOT SEE THIS MOVIE.., I was astonished that they RUINED the ENTIRE tv show...glad I had already finished the series, but seriously do not waste your time or money on this terrible movie.

Definitely need to be over 40 and married to enjoy

This was a great movie. We laughed out loud for over two hours because they truly had videotaped our marriage. I feel sorry for the newly weds and your couples in the theater as they didn't get it...they just thought is was strange. Validated us in our marriage! Rip roaring hilarious. Sequel is better than the original.

If you don't enjoy this, you don't have a real relationship with your spouse!

    Waste of Time

    by cncsmom

I was so looking forward to this movie. It had a great cast; some of my favorite actors. I went with 4 girlfriends and from the previews we thought it was going to be a light hearted comedy. Geez....about 3/4 of the way through, I started wondering to myself if there was even a plot. There was no "end" we were working towards, no conclusion or climax. When we left I found out all of my friends felt exactly the same way. It was like watching someone's day-to-day life....whatever. Not even sure this would be a good rental. It had a few funny parts but for the most part it was a complete waste of time. I'm sorry to say this too because like I said, I love Paul Ruud and Leslie Mann, as well as Albert Brooks. Oh well. Just money and time down the drain...

the trailers showed a lighthearted comedy that we thought would be fun to watch. wow! if you removed the "F-word" there would be NO dialog. what a waste of time and money.

Parenting 301 - Acting Out Loud

These woven parenting and marital snippets, are the stuff of real marriages. Outrageous and tender, it may make the movie seem long to someone expecting nonstop laughs. So, money, sex, parenting, getting-high, aging, in-laws, smoking, dieting, music tastes, lying, etc. If any of these things (or all) are issues in your marriage, and you can laugh about them this is a must for you.

There is a stellar cast: from the 60-year-old father of triplets, Albert Brooks; down to the youngest daughter, Iris Apatow, who gives more than she gets and displays strength at an awkward age. The teenage daughter, played by Maude Apatow, gives typical teen angst a good-girl twist, which is then torn apart by parent-taught profane anger. Melissa McCarthy's over-the-top scene is hysterical, but watching Leslie Mann and Paul Rudd first attack her son, then her, and getting away with it is so rich.

I thought it was the most terrible movie I have ever been to..
My friend and I walk out..
Truly inappropriate..Not true life at all..
Every word in the film had some sort of sex in it..

Kids we always using fowl language..
Parents where having conversations that showed NO respect for each other and very unrealistic..
    No honesty at all.

A comedy is one thing, but just full out inappropriate in every way..

Terrible movie and a total waste of money.

    Enjoyed "This is 40"

I enjoyed this movie, it was funny, touching, sad at times, but a good movie. Paul Rudd is cute and a hoot. Go see the movie and forget about real life for a little while.

    FUNNY, FUNNY, FUNNY!!!

This move was hilarious but, YOU REALLY HAVE TO BE OVER 40 to agree (which I am). No one over 40, married for any length of time could not relate to some part of this move. LOVE Paul Rudd and the kids are super cute.

too long, no real point to the movie

    by gcottj

I kept waiting for something to happen, which really it never did. Just a drawn out look at a dysfunctional family...seen enough. Would not recommend

This movie is an insult to the industry

This movie is absolutely horrible. Think of the worst script that goes WAY overboard trying to be shockingly hilarious - possibly written by 13 year olds who can't write - Then pay $10 to sit through it....wow - we were thinking it would come together sooner or later, but after about an hour and a half we couldn't take it and walked out. Really a pointless waste of time.....my kudos to whomever put the trailer together and somehow tricked us into seeing this piece of junk.

WALK OUT!!!! OR BETTER YET SAVE YOUR MONEY

    by

There are a few movies that deserve to be walked out on and THIS IS 40 is one of those movies, better yet save your money the funny parts are what they show you on the trailer the rest of the movie is just two people turning 40 yelling at each other because their life did not turned out what they wanted to be blah blah blah stupid ******* movie even the fact that the main character Leslie Mann walks around half naked through some of the movie coupled with the fact that Megan Fox is in a bikini most of the movie cannot save this worthless piece of film

    If This is 40...

    by

I love movies that have a realistic focus on family life. Families have crazy dynamics and this movie carries that well. For comedies like this it's refreshing to see fairly good cinematography too!

Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann co-star as Pete and Debbie and they have great chemistry on the screen. A believable couple who have problems...teched-out kids, mooching or absent parents, problems at work, and decisions that have to be made. There's a handful of recognizable faces and it's fun to see them all together. It's mostly realistic but with some grand overkill in the form of Melissa McCarthy ranting that's hilarious. (Be sure to sit through the first part of the credits!)

The brightest star is Apatow. Not enough directors can write and direct well. He's made a funny, heart-warming, and well crafted story that had potential to go overboard--but held in place by good direction. If this is 40, even with all the trouble, I'll take it.

    Disappointing

    by Bob79

There are memorable and funny scenes in this movie, to be sure. We were attracted by the trailers. But mostly, it's a chronicle of a dysfunctional family that has "potty-mouth." My wife and I, no prudes, wanted to leave the theatre at many points.

I don't believe this is the norm for American families. There are many more inspiring flicks to go see. Don't waste your time.
