Good Material, Good OnScreen Talent....Not Well Produced.

This film had potential, lots in fact. Unfortunately, it doesn't live up to it largely due to some poor post production work. The amateurish editing resulted in scene selections in which the onscreen talent were unconvincing in their characters and the sound filled with problems. In other words, in some scenes the actors lose contact with the character they're playing and you see them, not the character. In other scenes, the camera work is choppy and the sound so muddled as the dialog to be unintelligible. The play is excellent, the direction of the talent not so much. All-in-all there are hundreds of movies made each year with far worse results than this one in some way or another. The difference is in most cases, they have neither the talent resources or budget to overcome their issues. No excuse here. Is it a bad movie? No. Is it worth the price of a ticket? Yes. Will you leave feeling as if you've been entertained? Depends on your threshold for video satisfaction.

    Alex Cross

    by MS. M

This movie was g-r-e-a-t! Excellent casting, the acting was spot-on, and the storyline kept me on the edge. I'd go and see this movie again. Can't wait for the DVD. By now people should know that Tyler Perry can really act. I've never read Alex Cross or any of Mr. Patterson other books, however the ENTIRE CAST in this movie has convinced me to pick one up real soon. Fantastic job on everyone's part!

    Better As a Made-For-TV Movie

I saw it last night. Tyler seemed out of his element as an action character and seemed very awkward carrying a gun. Also, the story line was not very good, the writing could have been better. Even the assassin's character seemed too "one-dimensional."

Fast paced, yet, undrstandable great detective movie. The best I have seen in a long time. Tyler Perry's acting as the strong, intuitive detective, was excellent. Even my husbad, who is 70 years of age enjoyed this movie.

    A GO SEE

    by GSPEED

I had a rough time at the start getting past the fact that Tyler Perry plays Madea and I was waiting for that character to jump out. After getting over that, I was able to analyze that Tyler Perry did play this role well. I will probably buy the DVD when it is released.

    Good Role for Tyler Perry

I really enjoyed Alex Cross - tough for Tyler Perry to fill Morgan Freeman's shoes but he did a great job. Movie was action packed with 1 or 2 surprises/shock effect. I would highly recommend to all who enjoyed Morgan Freeman's role of Alex Cross. Tyler Perry brought something new and refreshing to the role. A good crossover for Tyler Perry out of the Madea and passive husband roles. Hope to see plenty of sequels.

    Give Tyler Perry A Chance

    by

It's not as cliche as you think it's going to be. Tyler Perry did a great job, and the movie was great. No disappointments. =) Go watch it. I think you'll like it.

    Good but not Great

    by tonimc

Tyler Perry did a really great job of acting, especially since he is usually seen in a comedic role. The rest of the acting was good too. The story line was a bit weak, but all in all, if you don't expext an "amazing" plot and movie, an enjoyable night out, but not with the kits, it's a bit too intense in places.

    Alex Cross

Pleasantly surprised. Mr. Perry did his thing. The story line was good and he along with his partner did a believable job.

    I loved it!

    by esparra

Both Matthew & Tyler did a great job!!

The action was very good!! I liked the Alex Cross story from back when my favorite Morgan Freeman played him, and I'm a fan of Tyler's so I wanted to see him in a different light. I was not disappointed with his performance or the movie!! Great job everyone!!

    TERRIBLE

I have read all of James Patterson's books. And I was really looking forward to this movie. It is based LIGHTLY on the book. Tyler Perry is not a good Alex Cross. He looks uncomfortable in the role. There are scenes where he looks like he is trying hard not to smile. The entire movie was too choppy. If I was not with someone else (who also did not like it), I would have left and asked for my money back.

    Good acting; bad vehicle!

    by loldham

I loved Matt Fox's performance - he was an awesome villain. I don't think the story was as cohesive as it could have been, hated all the blatant product placement and the fight scene at the end was too bouncy to follow - who was the cameraman - if that was intentional then whatever that "style" is should be banned. Overall disappointed; could have been great based on trailer!

    See with new eyes.

    by

I heard the critics tear this movie apart. Fortunately I didn't allow them to influence me or my wife from seeing this. I also read fan reviews that weren't impressed with any part of it. This made me wonder--did we see the same movie?

Many critics stated that Tyler Perry should either give up acting or if he continues to go back to wearing a dress and playing a woman. I believe that just like Robin Williams battled hard to break that "Mork" image, Tyler Perry might have this problem. I have never seen him in any of those movies so I guess that it was easier for me to enjoy his abilities without prejudice from other films.

My wife and I enjoyed this film tremendously. The acting was good, believable and the film in general was well done. If you see this movie --just see it for the action picture that it is. The wobbling effect that one critic mentioned was supposed to be a point of view situation --something like the Blair witch movie, thankfully only one scene is like this.

    I loved the movie but....

    by trf123

The actors were great. I want to see more them in future movies. The movies was good. The critics should find other work to do. They don't know what they're talking about anymore. I never listen to them. This movie was one of many that had I listened to them, I may not have gone. Having read the books, I was kind of disappointed that changes were made in the plot for the sake of the movie. There were a couple of down times as well that wasted precious minutes. Maybe try a new director next time.

This is when I feel for actors

    by NWCL123

You have an great set of actors who do an exceptional job with their roles. Matthew Fox is so unnerving and distasteful, that you can't help being abhorred by him (that was the point). But, the book was purely James Patterson (so-so written) and the screenplay was ... AWFUL. The story is so awful that you can't enjoy the action or suspense or creepiness of the actors.

I'm sorry that you had to see this if you went. This is why people cringe about "movies these days ..."
