    Killing them Softly killed us

This movie was a huge disappointment. Brad looked good but had absolutely no personality, movie was very slow moving and confusing. They sprinkled some well recognized past mobster actors in it to try and convince you, but failed miserably. James Gandolfini whom I happen to love had a very small pathetic part and would have done the movie some justice had they built it around him. Dont waste your money. Not even on DVD.

It's About Killing, Leave Your Emotions at Home

    by pedsarq

Brad Pitt plays a sentimental killer who can't off anyone he knows. Those he doesn't know, he likes to kill from a distance, when they least expect it, which he refers to as killing them "softly". That's not a bad setup, but the execution of the rest of the story is messy. There's a heist by two idiotic junkies that's good for a chuckle, and nothing more. Ray Liotta gets beaten to a pulp, but we never really get to know his character. That was a waste of a great talent. Pitt's character is in total control of his emotions and seems to live for the kill. Too bad his character is not likable and we never get to care about him. One thing I will say about this movie, it has some truly great classic American cars. See it if you're in the mood for a story involving contract killings, two-bit criminals, and a very amusing James Gandolfini playing a character that's similar to Tony Soprano when he was into prostitutes and drinking like a fish.

Now the Chanel ads make sense

Aimless movie - predictable and boring - most scenes drawn out way too long with pointless dialog (if you see it you will know what I mean in the scenes between Brad Pitt and James Gandolfini). Save your money and wait till it comes out on Netflix.

FOR THOSE WITH A BLOOD LUST, WHERE ALL THE "BAD" GUYS GET WHAT THEY EARNED AND DESERVED.

Which was precisely what the audience suffered through 97 minutes of this brutal, taut expose where all are nefarious; just varying degrees of separation. The once, remarkably handsome Brad Pitt, plays philosophical "gun-for-hire", "Jackie Cogan" who "kills" from a distance, so as not to get too personal, sentimentally involved; his creed is ambushed by circumstances and his assassinations spread blood as intensely as water in post-Katrina , New Orleans...

Director Andrew Dominik features a seasoned cast (Pitt, Richard Jenkins, Ray Liotta, James Gandolfini, Scott McNairy) in a glum, lugubrious plot, revolving around the financial woes of dismal, droll, untoward individuals...

    TWO STARS!!

    Killing them softly

Like a VERY long Chanel No. 5 commercial. Pitt's character maintains an expressionless, monotonous vocal delivery style, as well as a blank facial expression. One doesn't care much about the characters to say nothing of the questionable plot development . . . essentially, " who cares?" is the feeling one takes out of the theatre. The one SLIGHT exception would be James Gandolfini's character who expresses some apparently genuine emotion, but only briefly, perhaps quickly squelched by the director. I guess is it possible that was the intended final result, but one doubts it sincerely. Not worth the admission price.

I would wait to see this movie on HBO.

I was so excited to see Killing them softly but it was truly a big let down. I must admit Killing them softly is not going to be a Sopranos type movie even though some of the cast was in the movie, but overall I was pretty disappointed. I will not be purchasing this movie on DVD.

    Walked out!

    by

This was a terrible flick. I desperately wanted to sit it out and find out where the "pop" was but after the second couple leaving and I had to follow. Boring and ill written.

    Please refund me!

    Awful movie

My husband and I saw this movie in Sydney, Australia before it ever made it to the U.S. It was absolutely the worse move we've ever seen. That says it all! Please don't bother to see it on screen or even on DVD, save your money for a worth while movie.

    Wait for REDBOX

Look I will start by saying I am a Brad Pitt fan and enjoy movies with substance just as much as I enjoy The Avengers....BUT WTF was this. The scenes with Mr. Pitt were decent and James Gandolfini was ok. The violence was very brutal (when they got to it) but the constant political crap playing throughout and the other performances KILLED ME and not softly either. If you must see this... wait for REDBOX which shouldn't be to far away.

    I thought it was excellent!

I see many bad reviews on this movie. However, I would have to dispute them. I was very into the movie from the get-go. Taking into consideration, I have not been to a movie theater in the last year, I decided to see this one because it sparked my interest with the trailers on TV. It also helped that Brad Pitt (he is did an awesome job acting the part!) was in the movie, as well as Ray Liotta. I really enjoyed the movie from beginning to end. It's a good indication of what does go on in the "real world". Especially, the end when Jackie (Brad Pitt) says what he says. There's much truth to this film. It's sad to see so many people out there did not enjoy it as I did. I suppose you must open your mind with ANY movie when going to see one. They are NOT all created equal and all have different plots and creativity within. I would see this movie again and intend on purchasing it when it comes out on DVD. Hope others may see it from my perspective and give it a chance!

New Spin on an old Theme

    by

Brad Pitt does an incredible job of acting as both a hit man and GM of the local mob he is connected with. His job seems to make sure that discipline is enforced one way or the other. He is a no nonsense killer and you almost have to appreciate the great job he is doing. This is a story of mob violence from the perspective of the hit man, which you don't see too often.

James Gandolfini appears as a hired hit man. He is a bungling, alcoholic, incompetent at this stage of life and does a great job playing the part.

I'm guessing Brad Pitt will be up for best actor for this film.

    Definitely don't see this!

I never do these reviews, but this movie was soooooo bad, I had too. Should have walked out, but I kept thinking it had to get better. Too bad they wasted money on all the great actors. I with I could get my money back. Among the worst movies I have ever seen!

    Killed me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This movie is trash. very disappointed in the stars and their totally unneccessary portrayal/treatment of women and the political ramming down our throats which were both totally unneccessary to the film and yet because that, and shooting them in the head was all they did...(without it they would have had nothing.)...they still managed to end up with a big NOTHING film !

Great Hit man movie! It's the big F***k You to Corporate America

    by

this Movie is not for Pussys! I loved it. It basically showed regulard hit guy Bratt Pitt trying to do a hit for this corporate guy and his "Board". These corporate guys want the hit man to do the dirty work and then try to chip him out of his money towards the end.
Brat PItt responds with the best line in todays Movie as
    "
this is not America anymore, It's a business" so pay me my money motherfu**er!
I personally would have shot the corporate guy myself.
