    Great acting but basically boring

    by JimJabu

Here's a film with great acting and photography, but it falls flat due to the script and the deadly dull direction. Essentially the film is a series of one on one talks between various crooks - two hit men (Brad Pitt and James Gandolfini) reminisce, a hit man (Pitt) and his boss (Richard Jenkins) come to terms, two low level crims (Trevor Long and Max Casella) get high together, etc. etc. Ray Liotta and Sam Shepard are completely wasted, though you might get some pleasure watching Liotta get a beating since he usually has been on the other side. Too bad. There is some really good acting here.

    Blah

    by

This is a movie that UN-glorifies the mob world - the Unglorified Tony Soprano family - lots of political subliminal messaging - very gritty - very dirty - showing that hit men live lonely lives, drink too much, and don't get paid enough. That's it. OK, the one positive was that there were ALOT of very cool cars!

    Deeply intense

    by nhleees

This is a deep, character study of organized crime with some pretty interesting characters. As usual, Brad Pitt does a great job, however, I never really connect (not sure we're meant to) with his character or any of the others, for that matter. So, you kind of watch the story unfold in a detached sort of way. It's interesting and holds your attention, but I certainly didn't leave thinking "wow, what a great movie." I'd recommend waiting for it to come out on Pay per view or Netflix rather than splurging on a theater ticket.

This was one of the worst movies I've ever seen in my life. It was a totally waste of money and time. Save yourself some time and forget about this one.

Save your money! Worst movie I've ever seen!

My husband and I go to the movies a lot. We have seen some bad ones, for sure. But Killing Them Softly, by FAR, was the worst movie we have seen together in probably all the time we've known each other. In fact, I joined Fandango today just so I could write this review (I've never written one before) because it was that bad! We walked out feeling raped of our money. Thank God we saw the matinee and didn't pay full price. We saw it because it was the only movie we could see with our schedules yesterday, and I love mob movies, so I figured what the heck... but the lesson learned is always read the reviews!!! Take your money and go to a nice lunch or dinner instead :p

    a real movie

The critics are correct on this (even though I have not read the critics reviews yet). Maybe this movie is too violent and real for some, and although I did not read the fan reviews yet, I just watched the movie and am glad I did. They did a good job acting, and the film was made well with the directing, cinematography, writing, ect. Real.

    Wait for REDBOX

Look I will start by saying I am a Brad Pitt fan and enjoy movies with substance just as much as I enjoy The Avengers....BUT WTF was this. The scenes with Mr. Pitt were decent and James Gandolfini was ok. The violence was very brutal (when they got to it) but the constant political crap playing throughout and the other performances KILLED ME and not softly either. If you must see this... wait for REDBOX which shouldn't be to far away.

    Wow!

    by seiken

Looking at the type of fans that write reviews on here it's easy to see why there is such a discrepancy between the critical acclaim and fan reviews. Go see Twilight if you do not really appreciate good, solid film making. While the undercurrent in this film is a bit too obvious, the statement this film makes is very timely. The film is well-acted and well-written. One darn good film and a standout in a time when movies like the Twilight series make mega-bucks...

    I thought it was excellent!

I see many bad reviews on this movie. However, I would have to dispute them. I was very into the movie from the get-go. Taking into consideration, I have not been to a movie theater in the last year, I decided to see this one because it sparked my interest with the trailers on TV. It also helped that Brad Pitt (he is did an awesome job acting the part!) was in the movie, as well as Ray Liotta. I really enjoyed the movie from beginning to end. It's a good indication of what does go on in the "real world". Especially, the end when Jackie (Brad Pitt) says what he says. There's much truth to this film. It's sad to see so many people out there did not enjoy it as I did. I suppose you must open your mind with ANY movie when going to see one. They are NOT all created equal and all have different plots and creativity within. I would see this movie again and intend on purchasing it when it comes out on DVD. Hope others may see it from my perspective and give it a chance!

    Killing Them Softly

This movie should be re-titled "Killing the Audience Slowly"! One of the worst movies (if not the worst) that I have seen in years. My wife and I almost left after the first 15 minutes. The plot was lame, the slow-motion brutality was unnecessary, the continuity between and during scenes poor. i.e. cocktail glasses at the airport bar.

Overall, my suggestion is to stay away from this dog!

    Funny ****

Love the situational humor that this guy got himself into. The two idiots where a real bore and took away from some good ****. And the close up of their stinky sweaty bodies were a bit much at times. I got it, they didn't need to keep expounding on them being low-lifes'. That was my beef with the rather good movie otherwise

Great Hit man movie! It's the big F***k You to Corporate America

    by

this Movie is not for Pussys! I loved it. It basically showed regulard hit guy Bratt Pitt trying to do a hit for this corporate guy and his "Board". These corporate guys want the hit man to do the dirty work and then try to chip him out of his money towards the end.
Brat PItt responds with the best line in todays Movie as
    "
this is not America anymore, It's a business" so pay me my money motherfu**er!
I personally would have shot the corporate guy myself.

    Killing Them Softly

Fantastic movie...real life, gritty, artistic! Acting was great! The Pitt performance made it work and the ending dialog wrapped it up in a neat little bow!

    A great crime film

Now I've heard people have been disapointed by this movie because people wanted more action and instead got a slow dialogue crime film with some action. I think people got the wrong idea about this movie because i think its great. Killing them softly I think is great because the dialogue is so well written and the acting is great and whenever there is action, it is of course good. Brad Pitt is great as Jackie Cogan, he delivers some of the best lines in the film and has some of the best scenes as well. Brad Pitt played a great hitman. Scoot McNairy who was in Argo, was great in this movie, he was one of the guys who robbed the card game. To anyone who reads this just remember, when you go see this movie and you should, know that there is a lot of dialogue, but if you pay attention the dialogue is great. And the actors portraying the dialogue makes it even better. You will get some action, just not as much as you think, but when it happens, its fantastic. Please, go see this movie.

    Boring.............

    by bt53us

A LOT of useless dialogue which served no purpose - nothing to do with the plot, character development, anything...it's like they were imitating Quentin Tarrentino with a lot talking, but it was just boring. Wait and see it at Redbox or Netflix. I had really been looking forward to this movie, but it was VERY disappointing....
