A bit slow, and not what I had expected

Some of the cinematography was quite spectacular, and the dialog was very interesting at parts, but I had a hard time caring about any of the characters of the film, and the background running dialog of the 2008 mortgage crisis & election seemed forced and did not fit as well into the story line as was implied that it would.

A decent film, I almost gave it a "go" rating instead of so-so, but it really needed something more to draw a person in before I could recommend it.

Gritty, Ugly, Bordering On Gruesome, Not Exactly Fun Entertainment.

I suppose some people require this sort of stimulation as entertainment in order to fill a void they feel in their lives. I don't. I wish I could say I enjoyed this movie because I really do admire the work of Liotta, Pitt and that Sopranos guy....OK, maybe not that last guy so much. Anyway, you'd probably like to have your dinner after this feature, since it's going to make you nauseous, provided of course you don't fall asleep first. In fact, I saw a midnight showing with about 12 other people and an infant. In the end, most everyone was snoozing, EXCEPT the baby.....due to the loud noises no doubt. That "Emperor's New Clothes" crowd that follows Pitt around in a gaggle will probably swoon at this farce, as usual. As for the normal people.....well, unless you're INCREDIBLY bored, I'd advise waiting for the DVD or stream. For all the expensive talent and 'artsy fartsiness," this movie is just plain dull. Skip it. You'll be glad you did.

How ironic the title is reflective of how I felt watching it

    by drjg

Sorry but to all writers out there how about providing some depth to your scripts rather than every other word being the F word. This movie was awful. Pitt was subpar gandolfini's character was pointless just like the movie. Save your money

    Kill ME Now

    by

I wish I could put a Spoiler Alert on here, but there is nothing to spoil. The movie has nothing to talk about and was very hard to keep awake during the movie. Brad Pitt has really moved down a notch in my eyes when picking a movie. I mean when you hear the names like: Samuel Jackson, Morgan Freeman, Jennifer Anniston, or George Clooney, you automatically know the movie is going to be good. I felt that way about Brad Pitt as well. Really bad choice for him to have his name attached to this waste of time. Sad that his name is the ONLY thing that will sale this movie. He will end up paying in the long run, cause you can not trust him to make a good movie. It is not even the role he played, which is very different from his norm, the movie plot, if it had one, was terribly lacking. I would not even pay the $1at Redbox to see this movie again. Don't waste your $12, spend it on something more worth wild, like...buying new erasers for your pencils.

    Excellent for Mafioso genre crowd

I love movies. I never give them a bad rating with the exception of two movies - both within the last month - and this being one of them.

To be honest, the movie was well done and the acting tight. It just didn't hold my interest. I caught myself daydreaming during the measured pace of this drama.

Part of the loss of interest was that this came across as a more violent movie in the trailers, while in reality it is a movie of tension - it is the anticipation of violence that keeps the audience interested and I'm not big into violence, hence no anticipation to carry me along.

Or maybe the problem was the film relied on our desire to be enthralled by Brad Pitt's every artful move as we were by Angelina Jolie's in The Tourist. Sorry Brad, Angelina is much more fun to watch.

Not as advertised, but still pretty good as a character study

The trailer for this film makes it look like a free-for-all meltdown of criminal missteps that Brad Pitt comes in to clean-up with very large guns. In reality, this is a talking head movie that has what little action there is capsulized in brief, hyper-violent nuggets compressed between LONG stints of getting to know our notably-predictable rogues gallery, warts and all. It?s the longest (and driest) episode of The Sopranos ever. Fortunately, I generally like talkey films (it?s what I?ve come to appreciate in this era in lieu of actual storytelling). The film also rises above its stereotypes with great acting and a narrative that symbolically ties the capitalism and corporatization that runs - and ruins - our country into the actions of gangsters. This was all pretty cool. Well, until the hammer-driven sermon of the last five minutes. That was just preachy. All in all, a decent start

    Killing Them "Harshly"

I saw this film as the trailers were intriguing and I do admire Pitt, Gandolfini, and Liotta. My date felt the same way! Late afternoon show and the theater was 3/4's full. I'm an average guy looking for action, great plot, cinematography, and directing. I generally don't read critic's reviews as I find they tend to over intellectualize and over compare stories to other movies/films, to a fault. I listen to what viewers think as they are my peers and want to be entertained as I do. This movie dealt with characters who had no redeeming value. Junkies, hit men, criminals, crime bosses, murder, robberies and slow motion scenes geared to emphasize the killing did abound. These are traits I love in a fast paced cops/robbers type story but the over all pace of this movie was slow mo! I actually saw two couples leave the theater. This movie is not for everyone or for many! One redeeming value is the cinematography. Violence eventually arrives and it is "harsh". Very disappointing!

Ignore the Teabaggers, go see it

    by sunburn

It seems alot of teabaggers are against this movie. What hapens is the writer tries todraw some parallels between the business of murder and the murder of business (i.e. the financial meltdown). What-ever. There really isn't some hidden politcal agenda unless you really, really want one - 'nuff said about that. About the movie, the parallels to the financial crisis are weak, and the movie is unecesaarily violent. Brad Pitt does a good enough job, and the cast supports well enough. Not as good a Twelve Monkeys or Snatch. but if you like things like Pulp Fiction or Inglorious Bastards, go see it.

    Disappointing

    by

All I can say is basically, save your money, this movie is not worth $12, it was extremely slow and the dialogue was more cheesy than it was intellectual. Brad Pitt definitely does a good job, but between the random mix-ins of Presidential speeches, the useless dialogue between Pitt and James Gandolfini, and the annoying back-and-forth's between the two witless idiot criminals, Killing Them Softly hits a very hollow bone and seemingly lacks a soul, if you will. All in all, it was extremely disappointing. Don't see it.

Good movie, but not for everyone

I enjoyed this movie, even though it was slow building. A lot of the "boring" dialogue that people have talked about as mindless or not needed actually was great character development throughout. You were given a great look into the minds of those who commit crimes and why. As for Brad Pitt, he did a good job in his role but he should in no way be the cover of this movie poster. The movie as a whole was very graphic and pulls no punches. If you are easily offended or politically biased, don't waste your time because its not for you.

    Killing them softly

Interesting would be my first assessment. Not my kind of movie but well written. Although I saw a continuity error in the first scenes with the Australian eating a ice cream one second and the next shot when should still have it's not there. Kept talking about place in around the Boston area. But didn't seem to be filmed in Boston at all. Bostonese type expressions like "this after" veiled or finally toned down Boston accents. Set in 2004 but we had a 1973 Buick Riviera, and 1970 prox Oldsmobile Tornado, and early 1980s Cadillac DeVille??? A scene that looked like is was filmed in a hall of Omni Parker House in Boston. Just odd that all. But other than those observations not a bad movie.

    WORST MOVIE EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've never been more tempted to get up and leave a theater than I was during this waste of my life!! Had I not been the kind of person that puts WAY to a high a value on the $18.00 I had just spent to see this movie, I would have left, gone home and shoveled dog crap from my yard and most certainly had more fun than sitting through this HORRIBLE movie. It was nothing but stupid conversations and greasy people - literally un-bathed, greasy people. I can't think of a worse movie I've seen in the last two years.... maybe No Country for Old Men (if that's what it was called?) - there's really no comparison to how horrible this was.

    Don't bother

Ugh! 15 minutes into this movie my wife was pleading with me to go across the hall to watch another movie. The only good part about this movie was James Gandolfini. He was excellent portraying an aging hit man. Not even worth renting on DVD.

    Killing them Badly

    by tam777

This has to be the worst movie I have seen in a long time. I don't even remember what movie was worst than this thing, but I'm sure there must be one out there somewhere. I saw that the reviewers generally gave it a good rating so I went knowing that I don't agree with reviewers too often. Boy I should of followed my gut on this one and saved my money. Brad Pitt and the rest of the actors did an ok job but the story, directing, and cinematography were so bad that 10 minutes into the movie I was thinking about leaving. Then Brad showed up and added a little spark and I stayed till the end hoping it would get better. It never did. Do not waste any money on this thing.

    Just a waste...

I thought that with Brad Pitt starring in the movie, the reviews might have been written by haters. This movie was possibly one of the worst that it has been my misfortune to have watched from beginning to end. Much of the violence was very graphic and was carried well beyond what I felt was called for. Unfulfilled potential is how I would catagorize this film.
