Terrific 3D visuals and a ridiculous last half hour make for a not bad TC3D.
I wasn't expecting much going into the film, but the prologue was quite striking with it's 3D transfer of highlights from the 1974 original (sometimes I thought I was looking at original footage, sometimes modern reenactments--I wasn't really sure). There's an hour of pretty gory, lifeless storytelling about four people travelling to Newt, Texas to reclaim the legacy of the heroine, but the last hour is the stuff of cult movie legend. Some opportunities for spectacular 3D effects are missed, but overall, the 3D is pretty good and worth the extra cash. Overall, it's an inconsistent film of highs and lows: at it's worst, it's mind-numbingly dull; at it's best it's very everything you want from a horror film.
