Shaking Writing + MIssing Matt = Disappointment

I consider myself an ultimate bourne fan. I was dubious when I heard Matt Damon would not be in the script but the writer/director was still there so I held out hope.

Plot could have worked without Jason Bourne but Gilroy made some very basic writing 101 mistakes. One, he assumed because it was allegedly a Bourne movie that we would just naturally be attached to the replacement Bourne carrying over from the other movies...wrong. The same for Rachael Weisz. We are just supposed to care about her because the alleged bad guys are after them. So he writes no scene that makes us care for either of them. Writing 101 your audience needs to care what happens to your protagonist. Watching this movie, we don't. Also in writing 101 you have to develop reasons things happen, show things developing. We don't see any of that in the relationship with our to protagonists yet suddenly they are a romantic pair at the end. There is no courtship, no sexual tension, no sex. No chemistry. No sale.

    Been There, Done That

Very predictable movie from beginning to end. Everything seems to have been copied from other movies/styles. Characters are presented as one dimensional cliches. Unlike Jason Bourne, who is sophisticated, sauve and conflicted (particulalry about his identity), Aaron Cross is simply a fighting machine. The biggest cliche is the end. It seems that every movie that doesn't know how to end ends this way. Unless you are a die-hard Bourne or action fan, see something other than this (Bourne less) film.

    Left displaced

The acting was very good.... The story line left be wondering how this became Bourne Legacy.

I didn't think the writers did a good job of converting from the last 3 Bourne. I love the Bourne series but didn't like the lead into this one.

    Worthy

    by HAF

Legacy is a worthy successor to the Bourne Trilogy: complicated, intellectual theme, reasonable contiinuity of storyline, intrigue in the transition from one "superspy" character to a new, comparably complex one; action sequences aplenty, admirable cinematography in the Bourne tradition. A pretty darn good movie.

    Confusing complexity

    by wallski

Left this movie wondering what I just saw. Jason Bourne kept getting mentioned but his status was never resolved (or I blinked and missed it). Our new hero (Aaron Cross) also had his status left hanging, obvoiusly for another sequel.

    Very Disappointing

Had great expectations and was let down. Very slow from the start all the action that you expect is all seen in the trailer. The worst of all Bourne movies.

    The Boring Legacy

    by

Go see Hit and Run where the stunts are real. This movie is confusing at first and I don't recall any green/blue pills in previous movies. They had to use Bourne's name to draw an audience. If you have no other choices and need to get out of the heat for a couple hours, this movie satisfies the need.

    There was never just one

    by janda2

I thought the movie was great. Legacy is the perfect companion to the previous Jason Bourne movies. It helps that I recently watched the first 3 movies before going to the theater to see it as the plot is happening in parallel to Bourne Ultimatum and there are scenes from Bourne Ultimatum that help tie the two together.. My recommendation to Bourne fans is to see Ultimatum first as a refresher before seeing this movie because Bourne Legacy explains a lot about Treadstone. The cinematography was great, action was perfect and the acting was not bad in my opinion. To those not familiar with the other Bourne movies, the plot may get a little confusing to you however the bottom line is that this movie is an E ticket ride. Check it out!

    Bourne again

Simply put if you are an action fan, a suspense thriller fan, or a Bourne fan, go see this movie as the stakes are higher and revelations a plenty. Well acted and well scripted, the Bourne movies helped bring even a change to good old 007 for the better. Much like the James Bond movies, the world shown off as well.

    The Bourne Legacy

The movie did not exactly keep me on the edge of my seat. It started a little slow but did get better as it moved on. The chase scene at the end of the movie was more Bourne like. It was exciting and the ending was typical of the Bourne series.

    Missed Jason Bourne

This movie wasn't as good as its predecessors, but it was worth seeing. Some good suspense and action. Bourne fans should go. I really like the lead actor. He is one of my current favorites.

Not near as good as the "originals"

    by

This movie was really slow in the beginning. They spent waaaay too much time trying to explain everything to us. At one point I turned to look at my husband and he was practically falling asleep! The action scenes were pretty good but not near enough of them! The final scenes with the hired "assassin" was too much of a copy cat of the last Bourne movie. He did a good job but they didn't utilize him enough. Overall, I was disappointed.

    Andddddd?

    by

As many of the others, I loved the first three Bourne movies! This looked like it would be a great continuation... Not so much... Not so much action, not so much of an interesting plot and not so much of good ending. I left like I was cheated out of an ending. Couldn't believe that the other 'super-spy' didn't even fight...
    Blah.

Possibly the best Bourne to date.

    by

Jeremy Renner's character is every bit as tough & deadly as Matt Daman's Jason Bourne.
To me the greatest difference between the two characters, and the root of why I like this movie so much, is the very obvious fact that Aaron across has a sense of humor. He can laugh about things, he can trust people, and can transition from a normal human being to a deadly killer and back again when necessary.
This movie is a definite "Must See (several times), Must Own" kind of thing.
I absolutely cannot wait until it comes out on Blu-ray!

    Eh, so-so describes it perfectly

It had some potential and would grab the audience's attention a bit at times bit then lose it just as quickly. It was too drawn out, and I wanted so badly to be into it because I really enjoyed the others but this one just didn't seem to have a purpose. At the end I was left wondering what the point was, just left feeling empty. The best feeling I experienced watching this movie was the happiness that overtook me when it finally decided to conclude and not drag on. It concludes in a very unsatisfying nature.
