    Quite Amazing

I thought it was going to be a cheap rip-off of the Broadway show. I was wrong. The characters were surprisingly developed well, and the story was quite good. I also loved how the movie had cameos for members of the Broadway cast (and yes, Debbie Gibson and Sebastian Bach make an appearance as well). This movie is a must see. Go out, spend the money, and sing along to this great movie

    Super Fun!!

If you like the music of the 80's, a great cast, a heartfelt story and tons of fun then you should go. Just make sure you indeed can sit through a musical as it seems that that wouldn't be for everyone! Tom Cruise is great and Julianne Hough is hot!

    Cruise Saved the Movie!

The movie was worth it just to see Tom Cruise in this very different and very cool role. Awesome performance by Cruise!! The movie itself is a little cheesy. Even though it's a musical it still could have been stronger on real drama in plot and for the other actors, kind of like Moulin Rouge did. The movie could have served better to motivate a revival of great Rock & Roll.

** Not for kids!! Many very strong adult situations... and I'm no prude. **

    Great Flash Back Movie

The movie was a great movie with a lot of humor in it. I would say that it had a bit too much sexual scenes and the story line wasn't all that great but I loved the music.

    rock and roll musical

I liked hearing the songs again, and I liked Tom Cruise's performance. I also liked Russel Brand as a hardcore rock and roller, though I didn't buy his love interest. Alec Baldwin did a great job, very believable. And Paul Giamatti was memorable as the most manipulative agent I had ever seen. Funny running gag about groupies fainting when they got the full force of the rock star's personality. Favorite line: The characters are telling things they are ashamed of. "I'm a stripper" "I'm in a boy band" "You win". Like being in a boy band is worse! It's the perfect attitude for this movie.

Enjoyed it almost as much as the stage play.

I absolutely loved the music, and I found myself lip-synching along during the songs. There was really no chemistry between Hough's charecter and Diego's charecter, in my opinion and they were so boring together. It was just the opposite concerning the rock star Stacee Jaxx and the Rolling Stones reporter. They were smoldering together! The beginning of the movie was kind of slow, but once Stacee Jaxx showed up, it began to pick up. I saw the stage play several months ago, so I did see the changes made in the movie, but they didn't take away from anything. Actually, I think they were good changes that made the musical more enjoyable for movie goers. Honestly, even if you like rock music, if you don't like musicals don't go to this movie. Save yourself the headache and just buy the soundtrack. Musical lovers should definitely add this to their collection, especially if you can ignore Zeta-Jones' stiff dance performance and the mayor's appearances altogether.

LOVED IT and we're going to see it again!

My 15yr old son and I saw this the day after it came out. We're fans of Alec Baldwin and (some of) Tom Cruise's movies. First, this is a musical. So, if shows like Moulin Rouge aren't your cup of tea-remember that. Second, I seriously had big doubts as Tom Cruise pulling off the rock star god but he did it-scarily so. The music definitely took me back to my 80's high school days of Aqua net and ratted hair! There aren't a lot of movies or musicals I'd be willing to sit through a second time in a week but this is definitely one of them! IMHO, I think the best acting of the film goes to Diego Boneta, and Cruise. Unfortunately, I think Julianne Hough should try a little harder with the vocals. It's PG-13 and there are a couple of scenes that perhaps, a little one shouldn't see.

    Rock of Ages is fun

    by bee_gee

Not the most serious movie.. Cheesy at its' best !! Just enough music, and of an age where the baby boomers will want to sing along... Just funny enough in the gaps to make it fun. Tom Cruise is genuinely great as an 80;s rocker... Not an epic film, but worth seeing.

Was fun, off the wall humor, good soundtrack

If you like 80's music, campy humor, and don't take movies too seriously then this is a good movie to see. There were some laugh out loud moments, but as a whole the movie felt more like a long episode of Glee (which I happen to enjoy).

The mash-ups in this movie are positively Glee-ful, and done well. The cast is nice, the story is a little disjointed if you really care...but if you can shrug off incongruency in the story line and just enjoy the sights, sounds, and soft storyline then you're gonna like this.

    Disappointing

For a while Rock of Ages on Broadway was a guilty pleasure of ours. We saw it about 10 times over the course of 2 years. It's a funny and goofy play that doesn't take itself that seriously, they serve drinks in the seats, and it's a good time, but when it comes down to it, the play is about the singing.

The movie doesn't know what it wants to be. I can even accept that they deviated from the original Broadway storyline, but when it comes down to it, the movie is all over the place. The two lead characters are kind of bland, and the lead who plays Drew isn't the greatest of singers. They obviously didn't care. There's been much said about how somebody like Tom Cruise worked to improve his singing, but when it comes down it, do you really want to hear a mediocre singer singing away at Def Leppard? Some of the songs are serious, some try and be funny but the choreography sucks and the script is stupid.

NO MOVIE LIKE ROCK OF AGES!

I went to see this movie last Friday night with my husband. I liked it so much, I went back the next day at a matinee showing with my BFF to see it again, so what does that say? I LOVE THIS MOVIE! The casting is superb, the musical performances are awesome and it was a great combination of a love story, humor, drama and music! I am not a huge Tom Cruise fan, but he ROCKED! His ability to take on the mannerisms and intensity of his character had me spellbound. Alec Baldwin, Russell Brand and Catherine Zeta Jones had me laughing with their animated expressions and witty dialogue. The movie was sexual and the characters were sexy, but it was tastefully done in a way that I would feel comfortable watching it with my teenaged kids. Lots of skin, and risque clothing, but no nudity (with the exception of Tom Cruise's bare buttocks in a pair of black leather chaps - YUM!). THIS MOVIE IS EXTREMELY ENTERTAINING -- A MUST SEE!!!

    So much to remember

It was great! I went with my wife and our youngest son (12)....and it was so moving that ALL 3 of US knew each of the songs and were singing along with them. I will admit that my son and I were thinking "not another corny musical" when it opened up with the first scene....but soon after that......well, it was great!

As he put it, "It was a HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL for ya'll!"
