I was really really hoping that The Host was going to be a great movie

Where as the movie "In Time" succeeds in its clever use of language & banter between characters, The Host fails. I was so hoping this movie was going to be great. Instead I got a bit of excitement, heartfelt romance & intrigue, & a bit of annoyance by the film's attempt to be cute & funny at times. Inconsistent in it efforts at believable rapport between characters as they were put into "role play" I did enjoy the internal conflict between Wanda & Meg. Saoirse Ronan captured the role in a delicate & touching manner. The human element was presented in a believable way. I think the film was made more for the Hunger Games generation. I could have done without a lot of the "inner voice" at times, as emotions & concerns were obvious during certain scenes The inner voice could have been toned down a bit, was actually comical at times when the Film was obviously trying to be serious & somber. I really wish they had spent a little more effort & time giving The Host a little more substance. C

    WORST MOVIE EVER MADE!

I'm a massive fan of Stephanie Meyers books. This was by far her best book written and the movie DESTROYED it! Yes it stayed true to the story for the most part, leaving some things out as most book-movies have to do. But the intensity of the 'love triangle' was so ridiculous that it had my friends and i laughing. The use of inspirational, orchestral music was so over done that I felt like i was watching a trailer the whole way through. The script was so bad that there was no way for the actors to make the conversations look good, or in any way realistic and there was absolutely no (intentional) comic relief to scene after scene of intense conversations. I give it a 2/10, one out of respect for Stephanie Meyer, and one because the guys were hot.

2 HOURS OF MY LIFE I'LL NEVER GET BACK

    by

This movie is horrible. Not even horrible just plain BAD. It has no action what-so ever. A car chase or two making you think "Oh this is going to be good." only ending in complete and total failure. I mean I could do better. I'd rather sit at home and write a 500 page paper on the history of the potato than see this. Its stupid DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS. There is no action in it at all. Its basically a stupid love story it makes no sense. The ending was stupider than ever. This movie has as much entertainment as watching paint dry. No wait paint drying is more interesting. This movie has no purpose in life. If this movie even makes the nominations for an Academy Award I'll hate everything. Thats how bad it was. Don't waste your time. Its so much more you can do in those 2 hours. I HATE THIS MOVIE. Such a bad film

    Great story

    Unique powerful story.
Fairly well directed and fairly well acted. I found things that I would have done differently, though that would have been more drama focused and less Sci-Fi.
VERY challenging/difficult lead role and supporting roles mostly done pretty well/mostly believable. Does take some imagination to get the full effect/appreciation.

Graphics are not so critical that waiting for rental or DVD at home would not suffice.
It is not a must go to the theater, but it is definitely a must-see, and family friendly for teens and above.

Definitely see this. (Either at home or theater). I dont regret admission to see it, and plan to buy the BluRay. The story alone merits seeing this movie even when everything else is just good.

    The Host

This is based on a book written by Stephenie Meyer [if her name sounds familiar , she wrote the 'Twilight' books] . The story takes place after an alien invasion has occurred . The aliens are called 'Souls' and they take over a human's body [kind of like in 'The Invasion of the Body Snatchers'] . Most of the planet has been taken over but there are a few survivors left in hiding . Saoirse is taken over at the beginning of the story but she puts up a fight [when she is talking out loud , it's the alien and when it's just the voice in her head it's Saoirse] . Diane plays a Seeker [kind of like a policeman for the aliens] that is after Saoirse . William plays Saoirse's uncle . Max and Jake play the love interest for Saoirse [Max likes the human part and Jake goes for the alien side] . I can see this becoming a new franchise for Stephenie .
It's rated "PG-13" for sexuality [no nudity] and violence and has a running time of 2 hours & 5 minutes .
I liked it and would buy it on DVD .

    Ehh.....Indifferent; Don't read book first.

Was excited to see this film having read the book beforehand. The character development & intensity in the book was incredible. The film missed that. Translating a 600-page book into film is definitely an admirable task, but having cut the development that happened between Wanda/Melanie that we knew in the book, & how Ian/Jared each grew to trust & love Wanda, killed me watching the film. It all happened too quickly & was very choppy, seeming as though scenes were cut as it went frame to frame. How quickly the Kyle/Wanda scene happened had me scratching my head as the book made it last more than the :30 in the film & with much more intensity. Not everything was bad; it was nice to see more of the Seekers in the film as it didn't have much in the book. The cinematography was WONDERFUL. But missed key notes from the book: Ian's tenderness, "my partner," Jared's goodbye to Wanda. With that said, it had decent acting & was enjoyable. Like the book, I'll have to see it again to catch it all

    Epic!!!

I read the book for this movie awhile back and fell in love with it. I was worried the movie would be ruined with all the love and hype I had for the Twilight series. I was not disappointed. I LOVED this movie. It did the book justice and all the characters were done just right. Don't let Twilight detour you from seeing this movie for it is EPICALLY AWESOME!!!

    I wish I hadn't

    I loved the book!
While this movie kept along with the book for the most part, the way the movie was made was terrible. I felt like I was watching some "B" movie from the SyFy channel. In this day and time, a movie goer should never be able to tell when they're using a fake background!!

I don't know enough about how a movie is made to offer an educated opinion about it's making, however even my 16 year old could tell it was poorly done. For lack of a better word, "cheesey" is all I could think through out the entire movie. I surely hope that these actors have something else in the near future with better direction and funding that will allow their careers to survive this pitiful display of theatrics.

I really wish I hadn't wasted my time and money on a beautiful Saturday afternoon.

Read the book and loved it!

I loved the movie. I read the book a few years ago and was wondering how they would do the internal voices as most of the book was in Melanie/Wanda's thought conversations and memory revealing. I went with 3 people that did not read it first and one that did. Seems you probably enjoy it more if you read the book because you understand the story better, but the 3 that did not read it enjoyed it too. My son just didn't like that there wasn't a lot of action, he's 12 :) and wanted to see GI Joe.
Overall an entertaining break from the everyday movie. I have been recommending it to my friends! I would say GO

(From a Fan of the Book) Andrew Niccol Disappoints Again

If you are a fan of the book (which I am), this is definitely worth seeing. If you didn't read the book, I would recommend waiting for the Bluray. As an adaptation, it stays fairly true to the book, so fans will be able to appreciate that aspect.

I have a problem with Andrew Niccol as a director. His films have so much potential, but they turn out very average and end up falling flat and disappointing. The acting is solid and there are some really good scene. But for me, the film doesn't come together well as a whole. The score is extremely lacking, the editing wasn't that good, and the Melanie voice-overs were poorly done and came across as cheesy.

I enjoyed the film, despite Niccol's underwhelming (and sometimes boring) end product, because I like the story

I hope to see a sequel once Meyer finishes the next book, but with a different director.

Saoirse Ronan was great, mediocre movie

    by ThaWulf

I liked this movie, although I have never read the book, and didn't like the Twilight movies much. Saoirse Ronan made all the difference in this film. Her performance was perfect, and a couple of the other cast members were good as well. The story was predictable and kind of childish in it's conception, but that is what I expected. If you liked Twilight, see this movie, otherwise rent it sometime to catch some epic Saoirse Ronan.

    It was Okay

    by bren592

I expected this movie to be so much better than it actually was. It had no real spark!
Even the romance parts were messed up and confusing, and the acting wasn't great. Stephanie Meyers dropped the ball. I didn't read the book, but my friend did and said it was sort of boring, and we are both Twilight fans!

    Really good!

    by

The movie followed the book pretty closely, with a few minor detail changes. Overall I thought it was good! The action scenes were exciting and the actors did a great job portraying the qualities of the characters. We loved it!

    Still better than Twilight.lol

    by

I am a Twilight fan but I will admit I was more excited and curious about The Host as I thought it was better written as a book than the Twilight series. I was also very interested to see how the movie would show the internal struggle in the main character?s mind.
I am always excited to see my favorite books made into films...I miss the characters when I?m done reading the book!
This movie adaptation didn?t have any twists or surprises. But, the character?s eyes were cool looking and I like Diane Kruger as The Seeker.
My own personal rating system says....wait for this one to come out on DVD.

I didn't read the book... Still liked it.

    by

This movie won't win academy awards but it was enjoyable regardless. It was interesting to see an overused movie plot (alien invasion) with a new and fresh twist. It definitely has its cheesy moments and its flaws but at the end of the day I felt my time was wisely used.

    Just my 2 cents
