    Entertaining for the subject matter

G.I. Joe retaliation was a good afternoon filler for those who enjoy the comics and toys.
The directing and cinematography felt like something out of the MTV music video, without the music. The acting overall was decent though I found myself wondering why there are so many one-liners that made no sense though the film does try to take itself a little more seriously than people give it credit for.
As for the 3-D elements which is why this film was held back over a year I fail to see the point of holding the film back for what clearly was a dumb and unneeded gimmick.

    G.I. Joe

    by

I thought it was an awesome movie. I liked it, my 8 yr old son loved it, but my fiance was a little butthurt because one of her favorite characters gets killed. I can't say who I guess so not to spoil it for everyone. Lots of action, I really enjoyed it.

    Hail COBRA!!!

    by

That is what this movie should have been titled. I enjoyed G.I. Joe Rise of the Cobra because it was a great way to introduce a new audience to a beloved 80s franchise while still nodding the its existing fan base. Then we have Retaliation. i was excited to see where they would take the Joe team since the first movie was setup so well for its sequel. Then the movie starts and I start wondering what happened to the cast from the first movie. We get a 80s transformers kill spree 20 minutes into the movie leaving us with a new cast of characters. While I would have been okay with that, there was almost no character development with them. A dead dad here, a family at home there but no real substance to draw me in and feel anything for the actors. This movie really focused more on the Cobra team and gave them a bit more character. There was some nice action scenes and a bit of humor but not enough to make my top ten for this years movie list. So I would say Hail cobra and wait for DVD.

    Ruined

They kill off or omit the original GI Joe stars and put in Bruce Willis and the Rock! Are you kidding me? How stupid! This is not Die hard or Scorpion King. Did some get paid-off to ruin the movie or perhaps someone thought bringing in known stars would being in more money? I was so disappointed, I want my money back. If you are a GI Joe fan, don't waist your money, if you just like action then it's ok. Wait for the DVD and rent it for a dollar, that is all that it's worth.

    G.I Joe is horrible.

So this is a sequel to the last G.I Joe movie, that I haven't see, luckily, they explain what happened in the last movie. Even though my friend said some of the things that happened in the last movie weren't explained. The story is the president has been taken over by some bad guy. So the G.I Joe's try to stop him. Wait, did I say story? THERE IS NO STORY. It's all just random crap filled in for an hour and 30 mins. We do have some big star actors, such as Dwayne Johnson and Bruce Willis, but Bruce Willis doesn't get much to do. Besides the awesome quote, ''Shut up, Brenda.''. I saw this in 3D, so is it worth it to see it in 3D? It depends. If you are coming for just 3D, sure, but for the movie whole, NO. Anyway, yeah, this movie sucks. If you are a G.I Joe fan, go ahead and see it, but for anybody else, just rent it.

Maybe there is hope for me?

Hey I am 56 years old, slow, bald and out of shape. Maybe I can be a lead in Hollywood's next action movie. Bruce please choose your next movie carefully. I would like to remember as you were. This movie will bring you back to those flying oriental movies of the last decade where there is a no plot and little direction. The only thing slightly entertaining were the girls in tight clothes. If you like to watch liquid mercury move this movie is for you. On the other hand I did enjoy OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN it moves fast and resembles the old die hard style of action.

    Shockingly awesome!

    by

I really like Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, so I decided to check this movie out. Plus, action movies where stuff blows up and there's humor are fun :)
I figured this would be corny but fun and entertaining. It did have a couple of small corny moments, but mostly it was freaking awesome! I was shocked at how great of a movie it turned out to be. I don't buy movies anymore unless there's kid's movies (for my little ones), or they're REALLY good, or at least of the comic variety which I like (Iron Man, Avengers, etc--which all happen to also be awesome!) This movie was, hands down, the best GI Joe movie so far. Definitely getting it on Blu-ray. Don't get me wrong, awesome does not mean oscar worthy--it just means everything came together nicely and the movie was very well done. Don't expect oscar worthy performances from movies based off comic books or toys, seriously. Just enjoy and be entertained :)

    Redbox... wait for it.

Ok, it's not a bad movie, but it's not a movie worth spending $50 bucks (two tickets and food) for it either. Spoiler alert: When one of the main characters from the previous GI Joe, current previews, movie poster, etc, dies in the first 10 minutes, it's a bit of false advertising in my mind. There are some nice action scenes, decent story line, but it was one of those movies that I needed to get up in the middle of the movie to get popcorn and I wasn't upset about missing a few minutes.

2 stars (out of 5) is pretty much the best I can offer!

It's a messy kind of movie. The director probably had the mentality that as long as there's lots of shoot-'em-dead or knock-'em-off scenes for this kind of movie, it'd be alright. Well.... some clapped, those who were just there for the action, and not too analytical or critical. Other than that, it was just not possible to first follow, not to understand the whys. One can argue, you just don't need to know what's going on. Well.... a lot of effort was put into producing it I'm sure, like those mountain chase scenes. They somehow looked very real as they swung from one side to another on the face of the precipitous mountain. How they did it is probably not on everybody's mind. That's how good studio creations on the computer have become, fool-proof. Otehr than that, let me put it this way - even Bruce Lee they thought of putting in, just to rope some fans of his in? He was just a "filler". There were good moments, don't get me wrong. It just was a poorly put together flick.

Another Worthwhile Dwayne Johnson Action Film

    by

As this was a great movie loaded with action and somewhat of a thrill, I felt slightly disappointed. I felt like many of the actors could've done a better job then they did. Regardless of the small acting mistakes, this movie was filled with your everyday action movie scenes - explosions, guns, vague profanities, and cars. Either way, Dwayne Johnson demonstrates yet again how to be a bada**.

This movie is worth what you're paying, but I suggest you wait for On Demand/Redbox/Netflix etc.

    GI Joe

Spoiler alert. Don't read past this if you haven't seen the movie

The only only only thing I didn't like about the movie was Tatum only being in it for a short time.

    G.I. So-so

    by

I went hoping it would at least be better than the first one and I think it was. They improved upon Cobra Commander by giving him a more recent comics look and although he did not have a Chris Latta style voice, this one was much better than the Joseph Gordon Levitt version in the first film. There are some characters that are missing and they should have stayed, but I guess it was the studios choice to swap out some of the characters for new ones. The addition of Bruce Willis's character was nice. The one thing that perturbed me with him, and all the Joes is that there was not once a "Yo Joe!" in the film. It was always "Who Ha!", which is a real military thing, but you think they would put the catch phrase battle cry for G.I. Joe for the past 30 years in the film. There are some nice easter eggs throughout the film, one being a reference to General Hawk in the name of a location that is in the film. There must also be some pre-80s ones too for the over 40 crowd. It was still fun.

    Better than the first...

    by 809

It is better than the first, but this one still doesn't get there. Check the brain at the door and be sure to remember to pick it up on the way out. This one is very typical and gives you what you should be expecting, action surrounded by an inplausable story. Hey, I'm not expecting Good Will Hunting or Amadeus here. I'm just looking for the writers to look at the story a bit more realistic. Xmen was more realistic than this one, sorry to say. But with all this said, if you want action and the Rock, then you'll probably enjoy it. Not worth the price of admission, but I'll return for the 3rd installment unfortunately.
