Better than I thought it would be

Not sure what the critics are talking about -- I thought it was good movie from start to finish. It's nice to finally have seen a movie that impressed me.

    The Raven

I've been a Poe fan since high school (and that was a while ago) and I think they did him justice. Good plot, good story line, kept me guessing and it was like a little walk down memory lane as I reminisced in my mind of all the Poe stories I've read over the years. My 18 year old even enjoyed it and he's never read anything by Poe. Definitely worth seeing.

    Ok.

    by fiddyjr

Being from Maryland and I know a little more than the average joe about Poe, it was ok. Decent storyline. Wish they could have explained each story a litte better, but it's Hollywood.. I'd watch it again

    A Must See

It's Sherlock Holmes meets From Hell. This movie was awesome and kept me sitting on the edge of my seat. Definitely not recommended for children. John Cusack is again a hit and even in this thriller brings about a bit of humor. I would definitely see this again.

    The Raven

Although the acting and costumes and the sets were awesome, I was just a little bored thru most of the movie. The first 1/2 hour is really dull...I did get into it a little more towards the end, but I was ready for it to end. I would not say save your money, I just didn't really care for it, nor did my wife. Teenagers and younger probably aren't going to like it at all. I was hoping it was going to be more of a thriller than just a mystery...

    Pretty good...

HA! I snuck into this movie. Yeah!, YOLO! *** the po-po!
Anyway, In all serriousness, this was a pretty engaging thriller that tells a ficticous story about Edgar Allan Poe and his struggles to save his fiance and put a stop to a serries of gruesome murdurs inspired by Poe's disturbing poetry. I especially appreciated this movie seeing that i just finished a language arts unit on edgar allan poe. I'd recommend this movie to a friend.

-kinda bloody...leave younger kids at home, teenagers: sneak in.
    -great script+acting
    -engaging storyline

    Twiting !!

    by ODBPete

Yes maybe it was a little over acted, but the premise was very good.
I think maybe some of the No's where looking for the actual story of the Raven, not the movie they got.
I enjoyed it, and after talking to a few more people after the movie it seems everyone really liked it. it will never win any awards by any mean however The story was good, the acting OK. but the settings and cinematograhpy were great.

I would say go I don't think you ill be disappointed.

    Very good movie

Even if you aren't familiar with his poems/stories you'll still enjoy this movie. With its dark themes and haunting score this movie is right on. John Cusak and Luke Evans turn in great performances, as does Brendan Gleeson. Makes you want to go back and read his work.

    I thought it was great

The first 20 minutes were a lottle slow but the movie picks up quickly after that. The story is creative and the characters are likeable. I was changing my guess about "who done it" through the whole movie. I also like the twist of reality and fiction about Poe himself.
I recommend it, I was very entertained.

    Imaginative, Moderately Interesting & Entertaining.

It's hard to say anything exciting about this flick. It's not that it's dull, more that it's kind of short on action and long on dialog. Suspense is lacking too, a fact most contradictory to the protagonist's own work. Still, if you're looking for unique story with a healthy but not excessive dose of gore, macabre gore, this would be a suitable choice. Obviously you should leave the kids at home, unless of course it's your goal to warp them for life. Otherwise, see it. It's a fair exchange for its ticket price in most cities, matinees elsewhere. You won't be disappointed.

    The Raven

Although a bit too gruesome for my taste, the movie held my attention the whole time and I thought it was well done. I am claustrophobic, so some of the stuff made me cringe. John Cusack was superb, and I think he would make a great Sherlock Holmes! He has a great range - compare "Must Love Dogs" to "The Raven"..... In the process we got a little literary education, not bad!

Not bad enough to walk out of enough

Ok the premise was good. For historical time period accuracy about a 75% as the characters' dialogue was sometimes strained and sometimes got laughs when I don't think it was intended to get a laugh. Plot was thin if you had read any of Poe's works it was easy to figure out the twists that were coming. Maybe with a stronger lead actor and better plot it would become a cult classic.
A lot of blood so not for the young and impressionable.

    Loved It!

I loved this movie! Nice and gorey .. the way I like them. It wasn't non-stop gore but there were a couple pretty gruesome scenes. It will keep you guessing too. GO SEE IT!

    The Raven

    by

I loved this movie. It was exciting, and mysterious and scary in the right places. I watch CSI, so I'm not afraid of a little blood. The whole cast was amazing, and John Cusak as Edgar Allen Poe was brilliant. I definetly want to know more about the classic author. This movie is for fans of his, and mystery lovers as well, but don't take my word for it, see it for yourselves.
