    Interesting movie...

which gives a fictional account of the last couple of days of Poe's life (and death) which are surrounded in mystery in the real world. I actually came home and did some research into how Poe died because I'd never heard of what happened until watching this movie. I'd say... GO! :-)

    Well Worth the price

A movie worthy of Poe. It keeps you on the edge of your seat right up to the last seconds. Great acting, great script a definite reminder that there are still some talented people out there. They played on the plot and character interaction so they didn't need or use excessive gore.

    AWESOME!!

What great acting and the way they brought so many of Poe's poems and stories to life was just amazing. I would pay full price to see it again that is for sure!!! This is a must see and a must own!!

    Revisit Poe, Then Go!

I thought the film was a smart, suspenseful, sometimes gruesome period piece. While not 100% necessary, if you revisit Poe's Murders in the Rue Morgue, The Pit and the Pendulum, The Tell Tale Heart, Cask of Amontillado, The Mystery of Marie Roget, etc. you might find it even more enjoyable. I thought Cusack did a fantastic acting job. To me it was From Hell meets Sherlock Holmes and I love both those movies so it left me satisfied.

    Surprisingly good!

    by

The trailer had left me disappointed but the film went down very easily. I knew a lot about it already so I wasn't expecting an authentic Poe biography as it were. I thought Cusack's performance was mesmerising. He really pulled out all the stops!

    Edgar Allan Poe "The Raven"

Grisly and macabre -- a bit too graphic in parts -- the story is filled with mystery with enough human interaction to keep going. Though John Cusack wouldn't have been my first choice for Poe, he gives a strong performance. If you are looking for balance between genders - this is not a movie for you. The women in the movie are confined to female bit parts like arm candy, wife, servant girl, lover, or victim and this hurts the movie because though they are not faceless, they are nameless and without character. Horror, mystery, and Poe fans should see this movie.

    The Raven

I truly thought that this show started out slow but It got better towards the middle to the end of the move and I think John Cusack was pretty good acting and well done since it was poe's work and I think it was more like a Jack the Ripper Gothic type of movie . Well Done Jack!!!

    wait until DVD

It wasn't as good as I thought it would be and it was a little slow at time. The acting wasn't bad John did a decent enough job in fact they all did a pretty decent job. I liked how the murders looked realistic and they actually looked like they were being murders. I liked the ending it had a good ending and it will keep you guessing. There is a raccoon in the movie that John keeps as a pet, and it makes me wonder why they chose that. I mean they could have gone with a bird or a mouse or something but why a raccoon I wonder.

All in all wait until it comes out on DVD you won't be missing a thing.

    meh

I wanted it to be so much more than it was. John Cusack was a good Poe, more listless than other whiny characters hes played. But the excess gore was pointless, and the other characters were fairly cardboard. I should have waited for it to come to Netflix.

    Good show!

I was a bit skeptical at first as the premise of the movie seemed far-fetched and hard to swallow, in spite of my efforts to follow the "willfull suspension of disbelief" rule. After about twenty minutes, I began to be sucked in to the tale, due mostly to some terrific acting by the star and supporting cast.
By mid-movie, I was hooked and was on the edge of my seat as I followed each turn of the plot, waiting for the villain to be unmasked.
Good incorporation of the actual literary works of Poe, well-acted by Cusack, who went from unsympathetic character to one you were happy to root for. A very enjoyable evening and happy to recommend this movie to others.

    Pretty good...

HA! I snuck into this movie. Yeah!, YOLO! *** the po-po!
Anyway, In all serriousness, this was a pretty engaging thriller that tells a ficticous story about Edgar Allan Poe and his struggles to save his fiance and put a stop to a serries of gruesome murdurs inspired by Poe's disturbing poetry. I especially appreciated this movie seeing that i just finished a language arts unit on edgar allan poe. I'd recommend this movie to a friend.

-kinda bloody...leave younger kids at home, teenagers: sneak in.
    -great script+acting
    -engaging storyline

    The Raven

The Raven is an odd bird: it's a period thriller in which Edgar Allen Poe helps to track a serial killer inspired by the author's most macabre works. But, to paraphraseth the titular poem, the result has made them weak and weary, as it vainly tries to borrow from fantastic terrors we've seen before. After a series of brutal slayings, a young detective calls upon Poe to help ensure that the writer's most homicidal fan will kill nevermore. The Raven has a spooky gothic look, but it's mostly a gloomy procedural that offers few thrills -- or insights into Poe's life and works.

    Horror Fans Must Go!

Horror fans and Poe fans alike will really enjoy this film. John Cusack does an amazing job capturing Edgar Allan Poe. Fans of Poe will love the fact that so many of his short stories were referenced. Even for those who aren't Poe fanatics, it is a riveting, suspenseful movie. The Raven is fast paced, violent, and fun!

Worthy of watching on the big screen

    by

A bit of a ?dark? movie in more ways than one, but that?s expected of anything ?Poe-ish?.
John Cusack makes an excellent Edgar Allan Poe. I expected a bit more in the way of a Tell-Tale Story-Line but what can you do… On a scale of 1 to 10, I would give this movie a 7.

Not sure what it wants to be...

Slasher - thriller - period piece - downton abbey with lots of blood...
    Just pick one, confused writers!
Cusack as Poe is good. Should have given him more time to speak the words of Poe.
Evans is a disaster. If you want to see someone nail that era/period get anyone from "Deadwood". Esp Timothy Olyphant.
Still, a fun mystery. Maybe a netflix waiter...
