    Pi

Ang Lee is a distinguished film director so if he wants to do something a little different with technical special effects, one should pay attention. Pi may not win a lot of awards but yes,it is worth going to the multiplex large screen or waiting for it later on DVD or a pay cable channel. The visual effects of ocean creatures, the sky at dawn and night as a young man struggles in a lifeboat and improvised raft with an improbable survivor,a Tiger are wonderful. So,if the plot is not that unique of a Robinson Crusoe tale told in flashback, there are many aspects or mini-lessons one can think about after viewing it. There is the value of family,of course and how a young child finds his way between lessons from one's parents to religious principles from different faiths to relationships with animals and how one learns from a physical survival struggle to sense there is more to our world than just us. My wife liked it,too so even with minor violence to animals,it is a special family film.

    A thinking movie

When all is said and done, do you believe in God and miracles? Long movie, loved the message. Was it really a tiger? Hmmmmm, leaves you thinking. CLEAN! YAY!!!!!

    NOT a movie for kids

For adults this movie was good. The problem is that it's marked and rated so that families can take their children. This movie and I quote from a 9 year old is "SO very sad." Don't take your kids regardless of the rating. I rated the movie so-so because of the experience of the kids. For adults a go would be fine.

    Life of PI

I enjoyed the Ocean shots. The story was good but not something I would have to see in 3D or even go to the theater for. The actors did a good job as well.

    I had to leave

    by nwlaura

The violent nature and the loud violent noises made me leave. Sorry, I couldn't watch it though it looked like a good story. I also got seasick and had to cover my eyes. Everyone said it was a good movie (and book).

Excellent - and faithful to the book

Very good. Visually stunning. I read the book a few years ago and the screenplay ended up faithfully replicating the book. Probably one of the best movies of the year.

    Life of Pi is Amazing!

    by Lynise

What a ride!! I thoroughly enjoyed everything about this movie. Ang Lee has directed yet another Masterpiece and, as usual, has incorporated his genius with the amazing talents of a remarkable cast of characters! This fantastic story, told through incredible cinematography, is a study in the complex interactions between humans, animals, and mammals...in desperate circumstances. Totally entertaining. True to the book. This is MUST SEE for the whole family. Yes, go see it. Go NOW!

    Pretty much follows the book

    by mslanak

And of course liked the book better but the movie brought to life a vividness of imagery and pictures my mind would have never thought of. don't recall all that much talk of God though???

    Cinemgraphic magic

When the book came out, I chose not to read it - but when the movie came out I was swayed by the reviews and the trailer. Life of Pi the Movie is visually rich, with a compelling story about survival and the human spirit. Which story we choose to believe says much about us, i think. Ultimately, I found the story disquieting and thought provoking - not necessarily bad things.

    Very Good Movie!

    by

I was quite impressed with the acting -- particularly in light of the fact that the main actor was acting for the first time!

I also enjoyed the scenes in India as I had not realized what a beautiful country India can be.

    A Most Amazing Life Journey

    by jzactor

Life of Pi is a wonderful film that is a visual feast, a captivatingly profound adventure, full of wonder, awe, deep-felt emotion, great acting and the most incredible story of a tiger I have ever seen. It is stunning, captivating, philosophical and religious in its own inimitable and beneficent way. There is something for everyone in this film. I has true universal appeal. It will make you experence a myriad of emotions and one that is very difficult to express in a film without being overly sentimental or ponderous. This is simply the best experience of the mystery and mystical nature of life ever expressed ecumencially on film. You will leave it thinking at a deep level and most especially grateful for the gift of your life! Excellent actors are directed with exactly the right genuine "pitch" of emotion and faith without being overly sentimentalized or over-wrought. I cannot imagine a person not being moved or inspired or made to think in some profound way by this film.

    Much ado about nothing

I saw this movie with two young men, about 22 years old; none of us thought the movie was worth the price of admission. There were some great scenes of storms on the ocean. The cinematography was great. But the story line was thin in the extreme, and the story line is why I go to the movies.

    Life of Pi

    by

I liked the movie, did not love it. It was an interesting and entertaining story. but I left feeling a bit sad and empty. It was slow in the beginning and finally picked up and was very exciting. My 8 year old daughter had a hard time understanding the accent by the actors and spent a lot of the first part of the movie asking me what was said. The visuals were amazing and very believable!
It was a bit religious, not what I was expecting. No cussing or nudity so perfect for all ages. Animal lovers may have a hard time with some of it. I would have to give it 3 1/2 stars out of 5.

    Life of Pi

I absolutely loved this film! The cinematography was amazing and the story was subtle and surprising, with something for everyone in the family. This is what story telling is all about. I was captivated throughout.

    awesome movie

I read the book several years ago and forgot most of it, but remembered the important part: that I thought it was one of the best books I ever read. And I love the movie. Ang Lee did a spectacular job of capturing the essense of the book. Look for this at the oscars.
