    Life of Pi

Beautiful in cinematic imagery; thoughtful in spiritual possibilities. Often a mystery in dealing with the relationship between nature and mankind, this story will leave you with many unanswered questions as to the movie-maker's intentions. But it's a great adventure and will leave you with any splendid visual memories.

Not as good as I thought it would be but good

    by Katen22

Beautiful picture, but the story line wasn't as good as I had hoped. I don't recommend taking anyone under the age of 11 or 12...due to a few of the graphic animal scenes and they might just be bored. Wait for Redbox it'll be gorgeous in HD

    Must like Indie Movies

    by p_warb

While the filming is great, the movie is overacted and full of psychological fantasy. If you're into deep thinking end twists then this may be a thought provoking film, but if you haven't read the book the progress of the story is too slow and unbelievable until the end when it becomes clear that this is a trip into escapism for the main character. It just took too long to develop and I checked out. It does follow the book, so if you liked the book this film will give you an enjoyable visual. The 10-year old behind me and his brother rated it "no more than a 5 out of 10." You need to pay attention to all of the early symbolisms and action to get it at the end. Entertaining for the true literary types only.

    Nearly perfect.

Though I never read the novel, I remember it's popularity. With that in mind, I had no idea what to expect. I enjoyed watching this film. Cinematography was incredible, I couldn't tell sometimes what was real, and what was computer generated. Without giving anything away, I really enjoyed a respected story dealing with issues of philosophy, religion (faith) and what your beliefs are, in general. I always enjoy stories of shipwreck and survival, and while, fictional, it provides the issue of what version do you believe.

I got up and walked out.

Ok, I am a movie buff and love science fiction, great animation, a good story line, etc. However, this movie was such a bore. I got up and walked out before the end of the movie. I saw another lady leave in the first 40 minutes. Had they began the interview with PI then stuck to the movie and came back to the interview with Pi at the very end it would have been OK. But they kept cutting back and forth from the interview the Pi to the story. BLAH!

    Visually Stuning, unique story telling

Ang Lee has created a masterpiece, the story of a spirtual journey is both visually stuning and wonderfully entertaining. A must see on the BIG screen to be fully appreciated. Though I knew going in that many of the sceens and animals were CGI created it was impossible to tell what was real and what wasn't. This is a flm that has hidden meanings that you may or may not fully comprehend even with multiple viewings. The photgraphy deserves a co-star billing, this is a beautiful film. The story is like nothng you have ever seen, in todays world of the remake and sitcom rehash this brillant film is a gem that sparkles in the sun. There are some parts of the film that animal lovers will find disturbing but keep in mind that this is a fantasy world created from the vision of Ang Lee and no animals were actually harmed making this movie. I hghly recomend and encourage anyone that is looking for a truely unique experience to seek this film out while it is still in theaters.

    Life of Pi

A powerful story, narrated in first person, as Pi reveals his amazing adventure to the story writer in a way that leaves one wondering at the end if this was a halucinatory fantasy or pure reality. This was a beautiful film that was well scripted, offering the viewer an amazing mental, visual, and spiritual experience that satisfies the soul at many levels... Go!

The accents were difficult to understand at times, but if you listen closely you can understand it. The movie was beautiful. A sweet and yet sad story. I would recommend it.

    I liked it :-D

I loved this flick. Even after reading other reviews saying that it isn't for young children, I brought my 6year old daughter. She was bored and got lost in the symbolism and stories wthin a story layout, but i think the visual effects sprinkled throughout helped keep her attention on the movie. I, on the otherhand, enjoyed every minute of it. Definately worth watching - but may want to leave the kids at home for this one. :-)

Main thrill of the book undercut by the movie

I felt the movie did not dive deep enough into Pi taming the tiger. Desperation and was the heart of the book and I feel it was really glossed over with this adaptation. I think it would have been better if his thoughts were overlaid in a monologue with his actions. I really wanted to feel this movie. It had a lot of promise but felt way to happy disney for the point of the story. I didn't hate the movie it was okay I just really wanted more from it. It had a lot of potential. The cinematography was good but I wanted to connect and love this movie. I left wishing at least the tiger were really so the movie could have more emotion.

This is what movies should all be: interesting to the point of fascinating, keeps you on the edge of your seat with mysterious clues, magnificent cinematography. No one should miss this one.

It is nothing short of amazing that a movie was made from the book and done so perfectly. If anyone misses this movie, they don't like movies.

    Spectacular!

Impossible to imagine how this film was made. On the surface it seems simple enough, that is until you actually begin to think about it. This was an accomplished feat like none other in film making AND it shows as the viewer becomes engaged in its beauty, spirited adventure and breathtaking fantasy! If you miss this one on the big screen you?ve definitely missed one of the top 50 films ever made. Simply put: it's perfect. What more than a movie-goer expect for their ticket price than an incredible and unforgettable experience like none other? See it. You won't be disappointed.

    Awesome Movie

This is probably one of the best movies I have seen in a while. It was thoughtful, charming, exciting and just plain inspiring. It's also family friendly so I would definitely recommend it.

    BORING

I never read the book, so I am assuming that the adaptation was good judging by the many reviews. BUT for one who did not read the book, the movie was terrible. Long drawn out plot, random metaphors that are never revisited, too much of a religious theme, and too much CGI. There was one point where my boyfriend and I started to forget about the movie and start talking. The ending was horrible as well. I watched almost three hours of a movie that was just a ******* metaphor. Absolutely terrible. Dont waste your time.

I had really high hopes for this movie going into it, and boy did it deliver. I highly recommend seeing Life of Pi - a beautiful and complicated story about God. We took our two daughters (9, 11) who both really liked it too. The movie provided us with a great conversation afterward on what it means to have faith, and believe in something you can't see.
