    Had A Very Deep Message

This movie was amazing, but very slow plot development. With the sub-plot in the background (the "interview"), the main story of the shipwreck was slow. It slowly gained speed and captured the attention of the viewer as time wore on. As Pi and his feline companion continue their journey to get home there are many discrepancies and the end is a general bore. *SPOILER* It is never confirmed whether Pi's original story is fact or a lie all along. *SPOILER ENDS*

In conclusion, great plot line, good message, not for children under 10, good cinematography, good acting, but SLOW plot progress.

Fandango default most reviews to GO unless you are careful at choosing other options

Life of Pi I would rate it as good but you really need to like the slow boring type of movies.

If you are looking for action, thriller or suspense then definitely avoid this. If you think you would want to find an alternate meaning to living in the ocean, then go for it.

    Life of Pi

The accents were difficult to understand at times, but if you listen closely you can understand it. The movie was beautiful. A sweet and yet sad story. I would recommend it.

Still thinking about it the next day

    by

Great movie. Makes you think throughout but really unravels at the end and has my wife and I still talking about it. Want to see it again knowing what we know now.

    BORING

I never read the book, so I am assuming that the adaptation was good judging by the many reviews. BUT for one who did not read the book, the movie was terrible. Long drawn out plot, random metaphors that are never revisited, too much of a religious theme, and too much CGI. There was one point where my boyfriend and I started to forget about the movie and start talking. The ending was horrible as well. I watched almost three hours of a movie that was just a ******* metaphor. Absolutely terrible. Dont waste your time.

master storytelling - see it on the big screen!

Don't find too many movies these days that must be seen on the big screen and that take you along a fantastic journey. The story drew me in, but I did not read the book first, so I only knew the basic plot. The cinematography and special effects thrilled me. The characters convinced me I was in their journey at every twist and turn evoking a broad range of emotions that kept me on the edge of my chair. Intellectual - can be. Emotional - can be. Fantastical - can be. Spiritual - can be. Award Winner - must be.

    Has it all

Saw this as a regular film first but wanted to see the effect 3-D would have on the beautiful scenery in the movie. In addition to the wonderful plot, story line, etc. the 3-D enhances the impact of this movie. Rarely am I moved spiritually by a movie, but the story line and cinematography are far superior to most movies. I have viewed no other film like this since a semi-recent Cameron movie. If you go and are in a distracted mood, see something else, this movie requires your full attention to move you. Do your texting later. Insightful older children and adults will appreciate this movie for its story and/or its beautiful scenes and/or the spirituality.

Moved me to tears with its depth and tenderness

Eager to read the book now that I've seen the movie. The boy who becomes lost at sea is an amazing actor. The movie pulled me in, never even had a good time to run off to the lady's room for a pee break, because it was too engrossing! The close-up cinematography was breath-taking, the kindness the child showed his animal companions, a fascinating story that the boy tells of his being shipwrecked. It seemed straight forward until after he is rescued when he tells two different versions of his experience. I questioned everything I'd witnessed up to that point, at first it was an annoying side event, but as the ending unfolds, you begin to understand the reason for this part; it forces us to ask the big questions of what really happened and how indeed did the boy survive to grow up into such a kind adult man with family and children of his own. Touches lovingly on spirituality and religion and how we choose what we believe about God in all of life's experiences, good and bad.

Nice story of survival and companionship

This is a nice story of a boy who survivals a terribel ordeal. Scary yet powerful. It is a fantasy but well told. I did not read the book so don't know how close it is. I enjoyed this movie

What a great movie! I was so enthralled and captivated. What a journey. I laughed and cried.Altho I did not see it in 3-D(due to medical reasons) The cinematography was fantastic. If you can see it in 3-D you must.I feel it is not for kids under 12.You will not be disappointed.

    Moving story

The movie starts kind of slow, life in India is mellow and easy, until it is time for the family to move to Canada and move their animals for sale in Canada. A new found love is left behind. The storm at sea changes it all. Now things are exciting, the special effects are superb and acting is great and the story line moves and you sit the edge of your set, occasionally forgetting to draw a breadth...recommend that you see this asap

    LIFE of PI

I was disappointed in the overall content of the film. The first half (give or take) is so slow and boring that it's hard to keep watching. After the storm and the second half of the film starts, it's wonderful. If you have seen the trailers, you've seen the best there is to the film. I was so jazzed to see this one; but it did not live up to all the hype. Unless the 3-D version is sharper and clearer, the two D version seems to be fading in color and lacks that brilliant colorization that I saw in the trailers. I gave it a GO only because of the second half of the film. I should have given it a so/so; but I think it deserves to be seen.

    Visual Masterpiece!

The effects were great, and the 3D only amplified them. It was amazing to watch. I loved reading the book, and the movie truly brought the book to life. Everyone needs to take part is this adventure!

    great visualization of the book

Too bad the alternative story didn't get acted out. since they already had the characters hinted earlier in the movie. which was a nice touch, that the book did not have.Since it's frictional, I don't really care about what the message on God was. You could totally make up a different story that God doesn't exist neither, so that's a moot point. It is the imagination, and visualization of the wonder of nature (land animals, sea creatures...etc) that's convincing, because they can really look that amazingly otherworldly. The movie also did a wonderful job in architecture and the ambience, i'd say even better than the book.

Spiritual and mystical with beautiful photography

    by robsees

It was a beautiful movie and certainly put life in perspective. The animal scenes were amazing as were both stories. You felt Pi's agonies and his joy and his humility. I don't think that it is a movie for young children.
