    stunning and thought provoking

    by

This was a gorgeous movie and did justice to the book--although the book explored Pi's inner life a bit more. Definitely see it in 3D--it's the kind of movie 3D was made for!! The storyline is fantastic and very gripping, but also spiritually deep. Parents, be careful -- this is a movie that young people may find scary. Several parents carted their kids out, most of them looked under 10. I think this is a movie to see with friends so you can talk about it afterward. It's an amazing experience.

    Visually Stuning, unique story telling

Ang Lee has created a masterpiece, the story of a spirtual journey is both visually stuning and wonderfully entertaining. A must see on the BIG screen to be fully appreciated. Though I knew going in that many of the sceens and animals were CGI created it was impossible to tell what was real and what wasn't. This is a flm that has hidden meanings that you may or may not fully comprehend even with multiple viewings. The photgraphy deserves a co-star billing, this is a beautiful film. The story is like nothng you have ever seen, in todays world of the remake and sitcom rehash this brillant film is a gem that sparkles in the sun. There are some parts of the film that animal lovers will find disturbing but keep in mind that this is a fantasy world created from the vision of Ang Lee and no animals were actually harmed making this movie. I hghly recomend and encourage anyone that is looking for a truely unique experience to seek this film out while it is still in theaters.

    Amazing story, beautiful movie!

    by syncloc

One of my favorite books, I couldn't have imagined how one could capture the breadth of the imagery and the depth of emotion. Ang Lee did an incredible job of capturing both! The screenplay adaptation, casting, special effects and cinematography stellar! Bound to capture several Oscar noms! Perhaps too complex for very young children (my opinion)

    One of a kind movie

The Life of Pi had a bit of everything - mostly edge-of-the-seat, some soft moments, a little bit of comedy and more of intense drama. I appreciate Ang Lee's direction in the wholesome aspect of the movie. One factual distortion was the last name Patel, which is not common in the Pondicherry area of India, but rather belongs to the western region. I guess that is for the familiarity of the audience, given that Patel is the No. 1 common Indian surname in the US and 172nd most common surname of all in the US.

    Had A Very Deep Message

This movie was amazing, but very slow plot development. With the sub-plot in the background (the "interview"), the main story of the shipwreck was slow. It slowly gained speed and captured the attention of the viewer as time wore on. As Pi and his feline companion continue their journey to get home there are many discrepancies and the end is a general bore. *SPOILER* It is never confirmed whether Pi's original story is fact or a lie all along. *SPOILER ENDS*

In conclusion, great plot line, good message, not for children under 10, good cinematography, good acting, but SLOW plot progress.

    Spectacular

    by

I had really high hopes for this movie going into it, and boy did it deliver. I highly recommend seeing Life of Pi - a beautiful and complicated story about God. We took our two daughters (9, 11) who both really liked it too. The movie provided us with a great conversation afterward on what it means to have faith, and believe in something you can't see.

    Life of Pi

This was an amazing movie! The cinematography was beyond belief. The acting was wonderful. I was totally enthralled with the story and am very anxious to see it again. Didn't see the 3D version, but will next time. It was a movie that will carry you away while you're watching it, but it has a deep message that prompts a lot of thought afterward. Nonetheless, it left me with a warm and satisfied feeling. This is one you do not want to miss!!! Will be one of my all time favorites. Want to buy it as soon as its available.

    Life Of Pi

What an enchanting movie. I happen to be a cat lover. This imaginative tale of a young boy ship wrecked with a Bengal Tiger, tugged at my heart strings. It was full of the unexpected. Yes I laughed, I cried, and was filled with awe.
I totally enjoyed the film and the story line. It deserves all the Oscar accolades.

    BORING

I never read the book, so I am assuming that the adaptation was good judging by the many reviews. BUT for one who did not read the book, the movie was terrible. Long drawn out plot, random metaphors that are never revisited, too much of a religious theme, and too much CGI. There was one point where my boyfriend and I started to forget about the movie and start talking. The ending was horrible as well. I watched almost three hours of a movie that was just a ******* metaphor. Absolutely terrible. Dont waste your time.

Nice story of survival and companionship

This is a nice story of a boy who survivals a terribel ordeal. Scary yet powerful. It is a fantasy but well told. I did not read the book so don't know how close it is. I enjoyed this movie

Fandango default most reviews to GO unless you are careful at choosing other options

Life of Pi I would rate it as good but you really need to like the slow boring type of movies.

If you are looking for action, thriller or suspense then definitely avoid this. If you think you would want to find an alternate meaning to living in the ocean, then go for it.

    Watched it twice

    by

One of the best movies I've seen. The ah-ha effect is building up slowly and the big AH-HAAA comes right at the end where you least expect it, and completes the whole story to one piece where everything makes sense.

There were a couple of scenes with cosmetic "imperfection", where the tiger didn't look as real as it should have but all in all they did an amazing job with the animation. Thru the whole movie you are convinced to be right there, by the boat, watching him struggle to survive and making sense out of everything that has happened (lost of his family, etc). The acting of all actors is top!

Ang Lee was able to capture me from beginning to the end. The story is actually so touching that you never look around yourself. Your eyes are glued to the screen from start to end. Humor is planted with care to the precise moment where you'd allow yourself to rest and laugh, then he returns gently back to the drama.

    This movie is perfection.

    Thank you

Very good, but wouldn't call it excellent.

Overall, I thought it was a very good movie, but I also feel I would have liked it a lot better if I hadn't read the book. So if you haven't read it, absolutely go see this film. If you have, I still recommend it, but not as highly. The acting was superb and the visual effects were simply stunning. There were times I had a hard time distinguishing CG from reality. And, for the most part, they did a good job of converting the book into a movie, which is always tricky. While I didn't like some of the changes about Pi's life in India, I could understand the purpose, and they handled it reasonably well. But the changes to the story on the lifeboat really bothered me. Some of the most dramatic scenes in the book were changed/removed to make room for dramatic scenes that didn't happen. More importantly, it drastically changed Pi's relationship with Richard Parker, making the story more heartwarming and less realistic. To me, the realism is what made the book so utterly compelling. 4/5 stars.

    Costly

    by hevwc

I didn't think it could be done but Lee did a great job. I just wish it hadn't cost 120 million. I don't think Pi would approve - his assessment of costly is that life is costly.

    Life of Pi

I think the advertisement for this movie is misleading as it compares it to Avatar without explaining why. That being said, I really liked the movie through the first 30 minutes or so but loved the rest of it. It is a thought provoking story with stunning graphics. It made me laugh and brought tears to my eyes. I would recommend it to anyone....just don't expect an Avatar type movie.
