Mel Brooks has to envy this movie

This is a modern day Blazing Saddles. Mel Brooks has to be jealous that he could not push the envelope as Tarrantino did with Django Unchained. This movie will last the ages. If you go to a Quentin Tarrantino movie and are shocked at the racial slurs and languange well then that's like expecting to go to a Jewish Deli and order a pulled Pork sandwich. It's Good vs. Evil and the movie does expose some of the brutality that did exist in the late 1850's in regards to slavery. It was a reality that this country had to overcome. A must see movie. The acting is great but the writing is over the top.

    Classic Tarantino!

Fantastic Story & awesome camera work. Jamie Foxx is great as Django, DiCaprio is awesome as the villain, & Christoph Waltz flat out Nails it as the bounty hunter partner. Tarantino does it again!! Must see!

Cringe-worthy but a lot of fun!

Trademark Tarantino! Loved the blood and guts, and dialogue was well written. Hearing the N word so many times was cringe-worthy, but I'm sure in the 1800s it was used as frequent, or more! Torture scenes were difficult to watch, but showed the inhumanity of the time, and allowed for the reasoning behind the slaughter of all those white folk! The film was long, but well paced. The only scene which didn't belong was the Tarantino escape scene! While it was fun to see Quentin, he needs to stick to producing, and directing, as his acting is atrocious! I would definitely recommend this film, but not for children under 17, even with adult supervision..

    Great western movie!

    by jmm0979

I love the movie and just what I expected from QT, the movie was overly exaggerated and very graphic. I love the plot but I do wish Django's partner wasn't killed. My husband and I enjoyed it very much.

Tried too hard at so many genres and failed to be good at any of them

I cannot figure out why this movie is being rated as high as it is. I went into it expecting to be very entertained given the ratings and reviews but came out feeling like it was mediocre at best. It dragged on way longer then it needed to.

No Offense: But It Would Have Been Better If They'd Left Django Chained.

This film is a sadistic exhibition of gratuitous violence, packaged in a macabre and ghoulish manner and delivered to an audience under the guise of entertainment. The coldness of its long series of gruesome murders, coupled with the obvious attempt at mocking the ugliness of slavery, combined to have utterly disgusted this viewer. While accustomed to Tarantino's genre and bearing no illusions at what to expect in terms of violent content going in, even so, I found this film was violent and ugly on a level far removed from the physical, much unlike the dark comedic emphasis present in Tarantino?s ?Machete.? Instead this one was just gruesome, physically and morally, with nearly nothing to offer in entertainment value to any normal person. This one is more or less a type of blood porn, far uglier and deviant than your typical ?slasher? fare. Save your money. If this sort of vicarious experience entertains you, it might be wise to seek the help of a mental health professional.

    Brilliant

    by

I just want to start off by saying, if you aren't generally a Quentin Tarentino fan then you may not appreciate the masterpiece that this movie truly is. This movie definitely has Tarentino's signature flare of somewhat cheesy camera angles, old style text and music and exaggerated blood splatter. The movie is violent but the amount of blood that is used is more comical than sickening. it is set during slavery so expect excessive use of the "N" word as that is what slaves were called back then.

The story is pure genius and wraps you in from the very first scene, Quentin wastes no time in making the hero and his objective clear within the first 10-15 minutes of the movie. Jamie Foxx's mix of bad boy and comical personality are the perfect fit for this character. Samuel L Jackson is funny and yells a lot (as he tends to do) and Leonardo DiCaprio is the villain that I loved to hate.

Overall this movie has a good story, action and just the right amount of comic relief.

    *BEST MOVIE OF 2012*

The movies name is "django unchained" but honestly after seeing this movie it should be called "Django off the chain"!!!!!! This movie is incredible. It's really funny, a bit gory but totally Tarantinos style and all around entertaining. Go see this movie, you will not and can not be disappointed:-)

cinematic creativity in a historic backdrop

Django is not a documentary. Yet the background of the movie
is steeped in the world of slavery. This movie is a forbidden love
story that is strung across the horrific brutality that erupted
from slavery and that of the pre-civil war era. In between
the story lines there is humor. The humor on the
surface brings laughter yet if you pause for a moment
the humor is a product of twisted perspectives.
I hope you enjoy this movie. I sure did!

    Entertaining

    by gwkjn

Had no idea what to expect. Didn't like Pulp Fiction at all, but found Django Unchained very entertaining. Was surprised at the language in the movie which I thought might be offensive to many, but the audience seemed to enjoy the movie. Would recommend it.

    Classic Quentin

Better than expected. Great cameos by Bruce Dern and Don Johnson. The movie keeps you interested and it did not feel like a 2hr 45min movie once it was done.

    Nothing can prepare you.

    by

Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's a Quentin Terrantino flick. But respect the content. It's fictional but it's based on real history. And yeah America, it's shameful, but it's true. And when reality stares you in the eye, you can't look away. The film is gut wrenching, but worth every penny. I'll be honest, it matured me a little. Movies like this always do. This film is far from Roots, but it's very close to home. Very sobering.

    Excellent Movie

    by

This movie was a little long but it was still excellent. If you are familiar with Tarantino's work then you would have expected nothing less. The over the top blood and gore was superb. The fact that he used the "N" word just correlated with the time period that he portrayed. I didn't think there was an overuse of the word. I recommend everyone to go see this movie. I will be going to see it again!!

    Quentin Does it again

    by RLEP

Well, if you are expecting violence, or twists in the plot, and of course seasoned actors doing what they do well. THIS IS YOUR FILM!!! Quentin has given us unusual perspectives of life and times before, and he's done it again. Django Unchained is truly outrageous and and off and off the CHAIN.!!!! I would recommend this movie to anyone over 16. Not because of violence (it Quentin, let's be real) but language.

    Django Off The Chain

    by AYHJA

This is one of those films that has everything you could want. It is technically sound, has a great cast. It is well paced for a long film. The acting is fantastic, the characters are well done. You'll have every emotion on the human scale hit while watching this film. You'll be angry, you'll laugh, you'll want to cry, you'll cheer. Just a fantastic film. Ignore any criticisms of this movie, you deserve to see for yourself.
