    OZ

i went to see this movie not long ago with my family. It's weird seeing James Franco play this type of role in a movie. The movie is great for the younger crowed. But if you are looking for this movie to compare to the Wizard of Oz, you might have a bit of trouble sitting through the movie.
Other than that, I thought it was pretty good!

    Disney used a blender

I am a lifelong Disney person. but whoever wrote this screenplay and story had very little creative juices flowing. They used scenes from Judy Garland's Wizard of Oz, Diana Ross' The Wiz, Wicked and every other off to see the wizard show, movie and play. Although the special effects are Disney wonderful and costumes beautiful, the acting is predictable and almost laughable at times.

I wish the hot air balloon would have kept going passed OZ

This movie was horrible. Disliked it from the start.. The only good part was the BAD witch and she wasn't in it enough. UGGGG what a waste of money!

    Cinematography was GREAT

I really enjoyed it -- FAR more true to the book than the old movie. As an adult I really enjoyed it. But if you have kids it is really a steallar piece to chat about after. It lets kids see that "good" or "bad" is something quite different than just waht someone may say. What things may have tipped Oz off that Theodora & her Sister may not have been as 'good' as they wanted him to think?

Great visuals, decent story, worth the theater ticket

The visuals alone make this movie worth seeing on the big screen. I was pleased to see that Elfman had done the score, even more pleased at how well the score blended into the movie...loved the way he switched time signatures repeatedly in the intro music...it created a lovely feeling of being a bit unsettled, just like a 'wizard' from Kansas might feel after being plunked down in the midst of Oz.

Overall, I thought it was a well-done prequel, with a lovely flavor of the original books by Baum.

    Oz The Great And Powerful

I loved it! Tightly written and closely pieced together. Great choices for the actors. Mila Kunis pulls off the best wicked witch to date. We haven't seem the end of Evanora. Rachel must return. What most fail to see or understand about this movie - is how it flows and how it is heading to it's original - without flaw. Then continues - all the way until the end - all my questions were answered! Even how Oz creates the illusion of the smokey large head. The origins of the witches and how they actually came from the Emerald City was a awesome touch. Have we've come full circle yet? No. We are far from Dorothy's arrival. The next installment needs the origins of the lion, scarecrow and the tin-man at best. What should it be called? I don't know..."The Wicked Witch and Oz"?

    Terrible

What a great message to send to girls. The movie portrays women as bitter and when they don't get their man they turn into...well the wicked witch.

Franco is NOT believable as Oz. Mila was awful as the wicked witch and the CGI graphics looked straight out of Alice in Wonderland or the Lorax.

    Thanks Disney.

    fun and fantasy

First of all, this is not a remake of the classic movie, it is a different part of the story. It is magical, and fun and colorful and yes, over-acted, but it works for the most part. My boys, ages 12 and 10 really liked it.

Making New Memories on the Yellow Brick Road

Those who grew up with the first Wizard of Oz movie will enjoy noting the parallels in production with OZ The Great and Powerful. Immediately reminiscent is the start in B&W until Oscar reaches Oz. And then the screen goes wild with great splashes of color starting with huge flowers popping up everywhere. Throughout the rest of the movie the color is especially vibrant and enriches the story. Special effects and make-up deserve special kudos ~ one major example is the transformation of Theodora from just witch to the most evil witch of them all.
We recognized many the character actor among the supporting cast and enjoyed their contribution to the film immensely. Not everyone will have the same appreciation of this movie because of a lack of historical context. But true long-standing fans of OZ will.

    Stupid, bad acting, boring!!!!!!

It starts out in black and white, with a horrible story line and filming. Finally after much force to keep watching it goes to color and new characters imerge, but it was so boring and stupid!!!!!!! My party of four all ran to the door to leave before it was even over. I talked with two other people after we left and they in turn did the same. It was utterly regertful how they murdered this story. The acting by Franco was the very worst!!!!!!!!!

    Good

The movie was a little long and had a lot of down time (for little kids). The acting was great and the colors/graphics were amazing. However, overall, I thought the movie was a little more boring than I expected. Wait for DVD instead!

Should Of Waited for the DVD

Dissapointed. The beginning was slow and uneventful. The trailers looked awsome...we couldn't wait, but we should of. Mila Kunis was just not the best pick for this character. I thought Rachel Weize was great and made the movie more beleivable. Would of wanted to a better Oz too. Do not recommend this film. Save your money. Wait for the DVD.

    OZ the Great and Powerful

The movie was everything I thought it would be and I really enjoyed all of the film. The only thing was it was a bit long and could have been about 20 minutes shorter.

    Oz the Great and Powerful

Loved this movie! Every minute was wonderful. My only complaint would be that I thought I bought the 3D version. I will have to go see it again in 3D format. I was confused when I bought the tickets, and a bit mad that I really wanted to see it all alive.

    Fun Movie

We went to see this in IMAX 3D with my 4 and 7 year old sons, and they loved it. There were lots of nods to the original, but made it updated for today's theme and style. The Disney touch of having good try to overcome evil without becoming evil was nice as well. Another theme was the idea that even ordinary people can rise to the occasion and become a hero, just by being who they are. Not with superpowers, just with their own given talents. My kids were laughing at several points in the movie, with tension-relief jokes and one liners. Sure, it's weird to have characters of a china doll and flying monkey, but this is OZ, and Disney at that. The CGI was outstanding, and made it easy to fall into the story. We loved it!
