    Fantastic!

    by joyfulg

The entire film was mesmerizing! I loved the actors, the sets and the costumes. It was true to the original, but even better in many ways.

    Pretty Good

I have been wanting to go see this movie since I first heard it was coming out last year. I had a baby in November 2012 and haven't been out since. I chose this time to have my first outing and went to the 9 o'clock showing. That was my first mistake. I'm usually in bed by 9. I was tired when I got there. Still I enjoyed the movie. It was really well put together and I loved how they told the story of the true wicked witch. I fell asleep a couple times despite my great effort otherwise. The "fight" scene was what got me. It was just kind of drawn out. One thing that surprised me though, especially at a 9pm showing, was that there were a WIDE variety of viewers. From ages 4 to well above 40. All around a great movie, but I don't know if it was worth losing sleep and time with my baby. I could have dealt with waiting for the DVD.

    OZ the Great and Powerful

I was really looking forward to this movie for myself and to see if it would be appropriate for my younger grand children.
On the plus side the graphics and visuals were really great.
On the down side the acting and story line just did not do it for me. Oz, although great to look at, seemed a bit hokey. The three witches did a bit better but were still not very believable. Some of the scenes seemed to drag on and on and others were not well thought out.
    Fair movie but was disappointed.
Will not recommend and will not take the grand kids.

Oz the great and not so powerful

My husband left there thinking he lost two hours of his life! What a waste of time. My 17 yr old daughter hated it also. It was such a let down. Movies just aren't what they used to be. I think Redbox will get most of our business.

    Not a Must-Go, but a So-So-Go

    by

I had been anticipating this movie for months and had really high expectations for it. Needless to say, I was a bit disappointed. The best thing about this movie was the visual effects. The disappointing factors include lack of quality acting, absence of original Wizard of Oz elements, and instead of a "Wow" factor, there was cheesiness and predictability. However, it was still fun to watch and is definitely a feast for the eyes. I did laugh out loud at a couple of moments in the film, as well. I can see how other audience members could find this movie intriguing. If you want an entertaining movie and are a fan of the original story, then go and see it, just don't go in expecting a "great and powerful" performance.

    A bit longish for me

This movie was okay. It's not Wizard of Oz quality, even though it tries to be. My two youngest grandchildren seemed to like the movie, though. It was a bit longish for me. I got bored about 1 1/5 hours in and I wished it was over. I liked the actors and the characterizations and the coloring was pretty. Too bad it didn't keep my interest.

    Worth Seeing

Going into this movie, I had two expectations. That it was either going to be awesome, or just awful. Both were not met, because it was an alright movie. It isn't a movie I'm going to rush out and see again, but it was definitely worth seeing on the big screen. A little sappy at times, but overall the special effects were solid and the characters kept the story moving along. Overall I'd give it a 3 out of 5 in rating and say you won't be disappointed seeing it in theaters, you probably won't see it it twice though. Still a good movie, especially for children.

A Lion, Some Monkeys, No Bears

Although I saw this movie on a regular screen, the CGI was an amazing depiction of the beauty and wonder of the magical Land of OZ. The back story of how Oscar, The Great OZ, Carnival Magician from Kansas became The Great Wizard of Oz was interesting and very Human for the 21st Century. Unfortunately, because the original was of pure childhood 1939 innocence, the 21st Century Moderno-Humanistic Faults of Oz though Real and Somewhat Refreshing, lend to a subliminal tension to the transitioning as a Prequel. This may surface as a PG themed disrespect to the original by some. The heartfelt message that you come away with, which is strongly woven throughout the story, keeps this movie a great view for the family. We see this prominent in the CGI supporting roles of new characters that help Oz to achieve his greatness and is a wonderful heartfelt depiction. The cast acting was good and there are a few twists in the beginning to whom the real wicked witch is. A solid 8 /10 tribute.

    JUST PLAIN BAD ALL AROUND!

What a complete disappointment! Combination of bad acting (not to mention bad casting), less than appealing costumes, weak storyline, & not-so-stellar 'special effects' made this one of the worst movies I've seen in years!
Not sure why this movie even happened. Save your time AND $ for something worth seeing!

    Fun Movie

We went to see this in IMAX 3D with my 4 and 7 year old sons, and they loved it. There were lots of nods to the original, but made it updated for today's theme and style. The Disney touch of having good try to overcome evil without becoming evil was nice as well. Another theme was the idea that even ordinary people can rise to the occasion and become a hero, just by being who they are. Not with superpowers, just with their own given talents. My kids were laughing at several points in the movie, with tension-relief jokes and one liners. Sure, it's weird to have characters of a china doll and flying monkey, but this is OZ, and Disney at that. The CGI was outstanding, and made it easy to fall into the story. We loved it!

    Pretty good

Not a huge fan of James Franco, but I did enjoy the movie. My 11 year old daughters enjoyed also, but It's a little intense for younger children. I think the best part of the movie was the humor.

    Enjoyable family night out

Some reviewers said they were disappointed because of "adult humor". Besides the comment about the sock being on the door (which wasn't that bad because there was nothing really going on), there wasn't really any adult humor that I noticed.

Was it as good as the original? Let's get serious! The Wizard of Oz is a classic and no one should be expecting this movie to compare to it. It was however, a very enjoyable movie to watch. My children loved the monkey, the munchkin named Nook, and the china doll characters. They were the real comedy in the movie.

It might not be the reincarnation of the Wizard of Oz, but it was a fun night out. I will be buying the movie on Dvd so I can watch it with my family again.

    OZ THE SHALLOW AND FORGETTABLE

An Overpriced Underwritten Waste Of Time. If you're into a gimmicky 3D special effects laden movie, then Oz is for you. But if you want magic and the story and the chemistry, then save your money for a real movie. 3D effects and 1D story.

MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT. PLASTIC CORPORATE GIMMICK. NEXT!

    A great prequel

Sam Raimi did a great job matching the flavor of the original movie. It's a welcome addition to the Oz story line and a great all-around fantasy film. The film runs a little long for young children and there are elements that can be extremely scary for them, but pre-teens and teens should enjoy the film along with the adults. It's not a perfect film by any stretch of the imagination, there are many questions that arise throughout the film, but if you just sit back and enjoy the film for what it is, you'll have a great time. James Franco is a great choice for the wizard and Mila Kunis is amazing, by far the best character in the film. The film is funny, touching, exciting, and wonderful. Go see it now!

    A wondeful Wizard of Oz

    by

Loved this movie. It had everything- spectacular effects and scenery. It had comedy, drama and heart. There were the characters we knew before and a lot of new ones as well. Findlay the monkey and China Girl were adorable. The cast was great. Terrific witches and James Franco did a great job making Oz a flawed regular person. And dancing/singing munkins. What more could you want?
