    OZ the Great and Powerful

I was really looking forward to this movie for myself and to see if it would be appropriate for my younger grand children.
On the plus side the graphics and visuals were really great.
On the down side the acting and story line just did not do it for me. Oz, although great to look at, seemed a bit hokey. The three witches did a bit better but were still not very believable. Some of the scenes seemed to drag on and on and others were not well thought out.
    Fair movie but was disappointed.
Will not recommend and will not take the grand kids.

    Well played Disney....

This movie was not exactly what I was expecting it to be, but I certainly can't say I was dissapointed. It did move a bit slow in the beginning but was worth it in the end. Fans of Wicked will hate it, die hard fans of the original may hate it as well, but as a fan of movies, I loved it!

    Enjoyable family night out

Some reviewers said they were disappointed because of "adult humor". Besides the comment about the sock being on the door (which wasn't that bad because there was nothing really going on), there wasn't really any adult humor that I noticed.

Was it as good as the original? Let's get serious! The Wizard of Oz is a classic and no one should be expecting this movie to compare to it. It was however, a very enjoyable movie to watch. My children loved the monkey, the munchkin named Nook, and the china doll characters. They were the real comedy in the movie.

It might not be the reincarnation of the Wizard of Oz, but it was a fun night out. I will be buying the movie on Dvd so I can watch it with my family again.

    OZ the Great and Powerful!

Wow! As a lifelong fan of the Wizard of Oz I was sceptical of a sequel, because I feel if something is perfect why would you possibly try to improve. I was so wrong. This movie was made in such a way to impress even Oz fanatics as myself. I took my daughter and grandchildren who I have made watch the Wizard of Oz with me since toddlers. We all loved it, me at age 61, my daughter 32 & grandchildren 6 & 9. I told them all when they get older that they will be able to say I watched both movies with my Mom & Grandma at the movie theater when I was young. I have taken all, more than once to a special playing of the Wizard of Oz, once when my oldest grandchild was 3 months, purely for my benefit. I do remind him he saw it first, with his Grandma at 3 months old. Go see this movie it truly is a gem!

    A great prequel

Sam Raimi did a great job matching the flavor of the original movie. It's a welcome addition to the Oz story line and a great all-around fantasy film. The film runs a little long for young children and there are elements that can be extremely scary for them, but pre-teens and teens should enjoy the film along with the adults. It's not a perfect film by any stretch of the imagination, there are many questions that arise throughout the film, but if you just sit back and enjoy the film for what it is, you'll have a great time. James Franco is a great choice for the wizard and Mila Kunis is amazing, by far the best character in the film. The film is funny, touching, exciting, and wonderful. Go see it now!

    OZ THE SHALLOW AND FORGETTABLE

An Overpriced Underwritten Waste Of Time. If you're into a gimmicky 3D special effects laden movie, then Oz is for you. But if you want magic and the story and the chemistry, then save your money for a real movie. 3D effects and 1D story.

MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT. PLASTIC CORPORATE GIMMICK. NEXT!

Very well put together masterpiece! 1,000 Stars Movie Of The Century! I would pay to see this again!

I've waited a couple of years for this movie to come out. I wanted to be the 1st person to see this movie. I took PTO on my job just to see this movie. I've seen an early screening of "Oz the Great & Powerful" at 8pm on March 7th, and I must tell you this is absolutely the very best fantasy movie I've ever seen! I won't throw you any spoilers. It was so incredible how they used lots of elements from the 1939 "Wizard Of Oz" movie to tie into this prequel. It all fits and makes since like a puzzle. Their was a lot of humor, special effects and action to keep your eyes opened and interested from the very start to the very end of this movie! There is even a joke within the middle of the movie for it not being a musical like the 1st movie. All actors done a terrific job especially James Franco. Didn't know Franco could be such a humorous actor! This movie is too great to watch as a DVD rental. You absolutely must see this movie in a theater in 3D as soon as possible or you may regret it!

    OZ The Pretty Good!

I've read a lot of reviews stating "disappointing", "innocence lost" and other negatives but I don't know what these people expected. Judy Gartland reincarcated as Dorothy and the munchkins giving out candy in the audience? I found the movie entertaining and I'm glad I saw it on the big screen. The story was a prequel so if you thought it was supposed to be a remake of the original, you should have read about it and rented the original instead. Most of the acting was great though I also felt the male lead was a bit miscast. The word Depp comes to mind for a better choice but let's give someone else a chance. Mila was stunning as well as the other 2 witches. I did see 2 scenes that looked like they were green screened and that they could have been done by a home movie maker pertaining to the the takes where they were walking with the yellow flowers behind them. Looked like antique tech. All in all, a good film that made me feel like I saw what made Oz who he was in the original.

Alice, Snow White, and Oz all in one! Oh my!

My daughter wanted to see this movie during spring break and some girl time with mom so we went and to my surprise, one of the best movies I have seen in a while.
Awesome Cinematic and I loved the incorporation of multiple fairy tale segments like the tea cup village and the poison apple. At first I thought it was going to be cheesier but blended well and added originality to an old story.

    Well done!

OZ -my 4 year old loved it and so did I

Ok, I wasn't the old version remake but I liked it a lot! I lived the china doll and the friendly monkey. The Glenda Good witch didn't seem to be the best actress but of spite of that I really liked the movie! My little girl lived it. Scary enough to be exciting for her and not scary enough to give her nightmares. I would even see it twice!! Love it love it!!!

    "Where's your broom?"

Pretty smashing! Great actor selection and the landscape was beautifully crafted without feeling completely unreal. I could have thrown out the heaviness of the whole love triangle nonsense... but the balance between the 3 witches is at least remotely tied to Baum's works unlike blatant missteps like "Wicked". The film does a great job of letting the Wizard's trickery be played to the fullest and watching the people of Oz get in on the act is great. I also liked the blended references like a lion that runs from a puff of smoke or the stitching of scarecrows. The soundtrack blended nicely - something Elfman always does well.

Oz the great and not so powerful

My husband left there thinking he lost two hours of his life! What a waste of time. My 17 yr old daughter hated it also. It was such a let down. Movies just aren't what they used to be. I think Redbox will get most of our business.

A fair and well executed prequel to The Wizard of Oz

I went into this movie with low expectations but left with a good impression. The environment of Oz was executed wonderfully. The set, backgrounds, CGI, and magical world of Oz over rides the character aspect of the story. Hence, the characters are difficult to hate or love, but rather just exercise indifference. The actors are talented, I just think the environment over powers the acting but that said, I was happy and impressed with the production. It starts off very differently and it is innovative in presenting a magical world. Though there are many nay sayers, this movie is not as bad as some say. Kids loved it, they were laughing and talking through out the film, asking questions. It sets the stage for The Wizard of Oz (which I hope Disney is working on a remake), and it was an over top, theatrical, film. I'd say, if you have to, go see it. It's not as bad as everyone says.

A Lion, Some Monkeys, No Bears

Although I saw this movie on a regular screen, the CGI was an amazing depiction of the beauty and wonder of the magical Land of OZ. The back story of how Oscar, The Great OZ, Carnival Magician from Kansas became The Great Wizard of Oz was interesting and very Human for the 21st Century. Unfortunately, because the original was of pure childhood 1939 innocence, the 21st Century Moderno-Humanistic Faults of Oz though Real and Somewhat Refreshing, lend to a subliminal tension to the transitioning as a Prequel. This may surface as a PG themed disrespect to the original by some. The heartfelt message that you come away with, which is strongly woven throughout the story, keeps this movie a great view for the family. We see this prominent in the CGI supporting roles of new characters that help Oz to achieve his greatness and is a wonderful heartfelt depiction. The cast acting was good and there are a few twists in the beginning to whom the real wicked witch is. A solid 8 /10 tribute.
