    A LITTLE DISAPPOINTED

I was so excited to see this movie that I even purchased, for the first time ever, my tickets in advance.

It had a very slow beginning, I didn't think Franco was that good of an actor. Thank goodness the witches were AWESOME! There were some touching scenes but no tears!

Ending was very good compared to the rest of the movie!

A Hot Poker in the Eye is More Intertaining

Was really looking forward to seeing this movie since the first first trailer came out. With great anticipation my wife and I entered the theater, found our seats-the movie began. Very slow to start-seemed to get less exciting as it progressed. The best part of the film was hearing the little kids laugh in unison at the funny parts and scream at the witch.

The real best part was when the credits were scrolling on the screen-and I hate scrolling credits. I was excited at the promise of this movie but I believe the leading role (James Franko) could have been played by a better actor like Paul Reubens or James Galdafini (can you feel the sarcasm?). The $20+ for the tickets and the overpriced popcorn and coke (which I must have) would have been better spent at a roulette table-which is where it will go next time. Wait until the movie hits the $1 theater then don't go. If you borrow it from a friend when it comes out on video...then that may be the time to see it-but I doubt it!

    So Disappointed ...

    by Finch45

I expected more from this movie spacial because of just the title alone, OZ. The movie was very poorly made, Graphics were to fake looking, out of place in a sense and the acting was unrealistic as well. I believe i enjoyed only one sense in this move and it was a very short one. I say wait for this movie to be put out on some media platform if you must see it, and save your money for a better movie that is playing in a theater.

    "Where's your broom?"

Pretty smashing! Great actor selection and the landscape was beautifully crafted without feeling completely unreal. I could have thrown out the heaviness of the whole love triangle nonsense... but the balance between the 3 witches is at least remotely tied to Baum's works unlike blatant missteps like "Wicked". The film does a great job of letting the Wizard's trickery be played to the fullest and watching the people of Oz get in on the act is great. I also liked the blended references like a lion that runs from a puff of smoke or the stitching of scarecrows. The soundtrack blended nicely - something Elfman always does well.

Should Of Waited for the DVD

Dissapointed. The beginning was slow and uneventful. The trailers looked awsome...we couldn't wait, but we should of. Mila Kunis was just not the best pick for this character. I thought Rachel Weize was great and made the movie more beleivable. Would of wanted to a better Oz too. Do not recommend this film. Save your money. Wait for the DVD.

Making New Memories on the Yellow Brick Road

Those who grew up with the first Wizard of Oz movie will enjoy noting the parallels in production with OZ The Great and Powerful. Immediately reminiscent is the start in B&W until Oscar reaches Oz. And then the screen goes wild with great splashes of color starting with huge flowers popping up everywhere. Throughout the rest of the movie the color is especially vibrant and enriches the story. Special effects and make-up deserve special kudos ~ one major example is the transformation of Theodora from just witch to the most evil witch of them all.
We recognized many the character actor among the supporting cast and enjoyed their contribution to the film immensely. Not everyone will have the same appreciation of this movie because of a lack of historical context. But true long-standing fans of OZ will.

    Good Movie Bad Directing

    by

Went and Saw this movie the second week it came out... It was very bright and colorful but in a way that with the camera moving all over made you get motion sickness. Michelle Williams and James Franco did a surprising wonderful job as well as the ever charming Zach Braff (Scrubs Alumni) who also makes an adorable monkey, but Rachel Weisz was a sub-par witchy sister while Mila Kunis was luke warm when it came to her portraying the misunderstood sister who would become the wicked witch (yes everyone knows its her just from watching the commercials) The plot was very predictable & yet held some very heart warming moments and would be well suited for any age as it has some very true to home life lessons. When it came down to the director my only comment would be this, Sam Raimi has yet again ruined another beloved movie franchise... Overall this would have been a better movie choice for the dollar theater!!

    Terrible

What a great message to send to girls. The movie portrays women as bitter and when they don't get their man they turn into...well the wicked witch.

Franco is NOT believable as Oz. Mila was awful as the wicked witch and the CGI graphics looked straight out of Alice in Wonderland or the Lorax.

    Thanks Disney.

    Very Disappointing

    by Rplnpty

The movie seemed long and drawn out, boring at times. Not very exciting. I have never walked out of a movie, but this time I almost did. This movie is an embarrassment to the entire "OZ" legacy. Actors were terrible. I found it very hard to sit through the entire movie and really think it is not worth paying to see. The end was the best part but it took forever to get there. I was getting very impatient for something to happen but it just didn't deliver for me. I would say that I was actually very disappointed. Don't waste your money.

    LOVED THIS MOVIE

    by

If you are any fan of OZ, then you will appreciate the story that this movie tells. I learned a lot about The Wizard of Oz movie and why things happened as they did.
The acting was awesome along with the cinematography, the 3d effects were amazing as well.
I think this movie is for everyone not just adults.

    Good

    by

The movie was a little long and had a lot of down time (for little kids). The acting was great and the colors/graphics were amazing. However, overall, I thought the movie was a little more boring than I expected. Wait for DVD instead!

    Oz the Great and Powerful

No what I expected. Thoought it wopuld be a little more interesting, but it was just OK.
There were lots of children in the theater, not a children's movie. Moved very slow. Corny parts did nto add to the movies theme.

    A bit longish for me

This movie was okay. It's not Wizard of Oz quality, even though it tries to be. My two youngest grandchildren seemed to like the movie, though. It was a bit longish for me. I got bored about 1 1/5 hours in and I wished it was over. I liked the actors and the characterizations and the coloring was pretty. Too bad it didn't keep my interest.

    OZ the Great and Powerful!

Wow! As a lifelong fan of the Wizard of Oz I was sceptical of a sequel, because I feel if something is perfect why would you possibly try to improve. I was so wrong. This movie was made in such a way to impress even Oz fanatics as myself. I took my daughter and grandchildren who I have made watch the Wizard of Oz with me since toddlers. We all loved it, me at age 61, my daughter 32 & grandchildren 6 & 9. I told them all when they get older that they will be able to say I watched both movies with my Mom & Grandma at the movie theater when I was young. I have taken all, more than once to a special playing of the Wizard of Oz, once when my oldest grandchild was 3 months, purely for my benefit. I do remind him he saw it first, with his Grandma at 3 months old. Go see this movie it truly is a gem!

    Disappointed.....poorly executed

The story-line was good, but the screenplay, acting - except for Rachel Weisz, and directing were aweful! Whoever did Casting should be fired! A good start with design, but no follow-through. For general audiences, as a last resort for those who need to keep busy.
Disney does animation very well, but did fail to convincingly transition this fantasy into entertainment.
