    Oz great powerful

Very disappointing! Bad acting, slow, and overall poorly made...do not waste your money!!! The 3D affects were poor, I even forgot half way through the movie that it was 3D. It seems that James Franco was trying to be like Johnnie Depp but failed!

    SMH!!!

Guess, it happened. I am finally getting old. When they start making titles and you say the original story was better. "Oz" is a double back handed slap in the face, to anyone who's ever seen or read "The Wizard of OZ". There is no amount of CGI and technology, that can compensate for not having a coherent story. James Franco is becoming one of those actors, who just changes clothes and he becomes someone else. He was still James Franco, umm just dressed as a magician. This film was easily an hour too long. I don't know which scenes should be edited. There were so many bad ones, the editor could just close their eyes and snip away. Even my inner child was checking its watch and wondering when this crap would end. I love Mila Kunis but hated her as the wicked witch. She should definitely fire her agent after bringing her this role. Sorry, but I can't even recommend renting this title. I guarantee you will fall asleep if you watch this at home. My $12 ticket ensured that I stayed awake!!

    Not so Great and Powerful

    by weberr

Today we went and saw "OZ, The Great and Powerful." Of course, I never believed for a second it could come close to the original, it was still a bit of a disappointment. Way deep down, I think I expected at least a little bit of magic, but I didn't feel like it was at all magical. However, it was enjoyable and it is perfectly good for family viewing...there wasn't even much "adults only" humor as is so often the case with animated movies, but there was some hidden "clever" and I had a few laugh out loud moments...but I was the only one laughing so I'm not sure what that says! The best characters were the ones that were in no way human, and they were very good; the humans were lukewarm at best. Still, the sets were good, there some neat effects in the beginning and throughout there were threads back to the original. I still recommend it, but would say definitely see it in 3D on the big screen. I think seeing it at home would take away what sparkle it did have.

    oz

this film deserved much better from the critics. This film was fun, entertaining and certainly presents a believable prequel for the wizard of Oz -- as believable as you let your imagination go with th Wizard of Oz in the first place. Amust see film.

    Excellent adaptation

I love what the writer's did with this story. Visually impressive color and scenery (likely all CG) and wonderful sound. The main character Oz was slightly charming while all the time managing to hold onto his spineless nature. A lot of great parallel with the original and some new twists kept me fairly rooted to the plot but it wasn't a winding road of complexity which made the film easy to follow. Ultimately this is a film about the choices we all make in life from doing the right thing to faith and selfishness. All in all a great date film, (that's what I did) or just a sweet film to watch if you like a mostly happy ending. (I felt bad for the wicked witch...err the green one.. I mean the red one... I mean... oh never mind just go see this film!)

    Rent the DVD

    by

Not worth the time and money to see in the theater. Im glad I saw it but I dont need to see it again. The cast wasnt the best. I didnt like the way they tried to keep it old school and traditional but then threw in some modern language.

    More miss than hit.

If you like thin plots, being eye-blasted with Starburst and Skittles effects, and flat acting, see this and then watch Avatar for the 1000th time, you know who you are. For people who enjoy movies with a required minimum of decent acting by the entire cast and more meat to the story, don't bother. Oz does make all the prequel connections that it needs to for Wizard of Oz and replicates the Oz / real character parallels but at the end of the day is children's fluff. Except for the scarier than heck evil flying monkeys.

OZ is Great and Powerful, Go see it in 3D.

Initially I though it would be a slow starting movie, but it was not. The movie production definitely has the Disney "stamp" on it, so you shouldn't be disappointed.

Mila Kunis is beautiful in her role as Theadora with those BIG eyes of hers and her dual role is great. Rachel Weiz (sp) looks good for this movie. My first impression of James Franco was dull, then he picked it up as the movie progressed.

Viewed it in 2D, but recommend seeing it in 3D as the graphics will literally come out at you, its worth the cost difference. If you saw the original Wizard of Oz, then this one will be a surprise for you. I will go see it again.

    OZ the Great & Powerful

Very good movie. So good, we went this morning & my daughter wants to go & see it with my older daughter this afternoon. This movie kept your interest. NO WAY did it seem as long as it was. It constantly had your attention & had a cute little twist to the end of the movie. Very acceptable for even kids as little as 6 or 7 years old. Very fun to watch!

    Out of Focus

    by

Was disappointed and surprised that the movie wasn't clear. All the beauty of the animation was lost because it was out of focus. I assume that Disney made it 3D and then didn't take the time to make a regular version. Maybe I'll go see it in 3D, but this version was a waste of time.

    Not powerful nor great.

If you're expecting to feel the same magic from The Wizard of Oz, prepare for disappointment.

James Franco did a decent job with his acting. Mila Kunis is definitely not suited for the villainess character. The movie really drags on to get to the ******* point. The beginning starts off wells; however, the story between is just boring. It's didn't really go anywhere, even when they meet the "Evil" witch.

Not until the good guys breach Emerald City does it regain the suspense. Humor is nowhere to be found in this movie either. Unless you're a 12 year old. But I digress, the movie isn't that bad. Needs a lot of work and Sam Raimi might want to do the same.

    Oz the Great and Powerful

I loved, loved loved this movie! I want to see it in 3 D now. There's no place home in the original but this one was beautiful. The special effects, costuming and makeup was bar none the best. Thank you Disney for another wonderful and entertaining movie! Do you ever run out of creative talent? Hope not.

    Great movie

    by

For those who remember the actress Judy Garland (Dorthy) in the 1st wizard of OZ then this film is for you. I loved this film because the beginning of film was in black and white and the 2nd half was in color. This is the prequel to the 1939 film.

Beautiful to see, except for the actors

James Franco is astonishing in the paucity of his acting skills and in the short range of emotions he is able to portray. His amateurish performance gives proof that just about anyone can be in a movie. Mila Kunis, whom I have enjoyed in other things, stretches her acting wings and also shows that she has nothing to offer outside of a small range of emotions. The cinematography is beautiful, but the film is filled with C-level actors. Don't waste your money or time.
